A wise woman once said: "You can never have too many candles!" It was me... The wise woman was me. Once had an entire shelf in our linen closet FILLED with every type of candle imaginable. It's not like they're going to go bad, right? :)

Dear Paola, I lost my husband of 47 years last March. We married when I was 18, so I have never lived alone before, and this is my first winter without him. I came across your videos recently, and I must tell you, they have been company and comforted me. Like you, I love to read and make things, which also helps. Have you heard of the book, Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May? I just listened to the first chapter and have loved it so far. Best wishes, much love, and gratitude, Debbie

@@TheMiriam333 Thank you, Miri! I'm really enjoying the book. The stories are uplifting, and the narrator's voice is soothing, like Paola's. I live in Southern Oregon, and our winters are mild compared to where Paola lives. We moved here in 1979 from Southern California, so I love it when we get snow. And I'm glad it only sticks for a few days! Tennessee should be lovely. Best wishes on your move.

MORE DETAILS ⬇️ Stay warm everyone! 🥶 just me over here doing hot foot baths for my chilblains - thankfully temperatures seem to be warming up a bit now, though we got over another foot of snow overnight! To be clear: just because I feel an emotion other than happiness doesn’t mean I am unhappy where I live and am moving a way. As far as I know there is no place on earth that doesn’t face some sort of challenge, man or nature made, that can be frustrating at times. I am so lucky to have my home and while I share these moments I am forever grateful. Winter is tiring sometimes, but that’s ok! It is a very small thing 🤍 feeling a bit down isn’t related to being rural, it’s having to say goodbye to family over the holidays and being ill. Rural living isn’t boring, being stuck at home sick is boring after a while. But again, it is a small thing that doesn’t change the fact I love it here 🙏 This time of year can be hard for many, when they are more limited in their movements and sometimes need more supplies to stay healthy and warm. Neighbors need to support each other and make sure everyone has what they need. While I am going back to work at my usual routine after having my family over, there was a time in between of snow storms and cold that kept finding my a little stuck at home, as it was a bit dangerous to try to leave without a snowplow. It’s all a great process that teaches you self reliance, but I thought I’d share since I was having some winter blues. Thankfully it is all temporary and natural, but is a good reminder that each place has expected challenges and that all feelings can come and go with time ❤️

Good Morning Paola - You might try 'Natural Silk Liners' for your gloves and socks. I used to live in Alaska and they work just great to hold the heat-in and are thin enough to wear under most any glove or sock! The Bible says 'Fear Not' some 365 times, so would be some great wintertime/anytime reading ... Prayer always works to make 'The Way' safe in trying times.

@@rabmcleod3508 I'm guessing that Paola's confidence grew by challenging her self doubts and doing things that were outside her comfort zone (for example, talking directly to the camera). We could all stand to gain by taking this approach. There's a good book on this topic called Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers

I don’t know if this will make sense, but your videos have really helped heal me. The last two years for me have been really really bad and my depression sky rocketed. I was diagnosed with depression a few years back and it was incredibly hard before I got diagnosed. I thought I would just get over it and that it was a phase, but that was not true. Whenever I watched your videos I felt more calm. In 2020 I started implementing more cottage core into my life, and alongside with your videos I felt much more in control and calm with my life. Granted my life continues to be hard and complicated, but you’ve helped me see that there is more to life than the pain; life is vast and just because a lot of it is hard doesn’t mean that every aspect is terrible. This realization, your videos, and the cottage core things I implemented have definitely helped my depression. From me to you, I have to say thank you. Please keep making this videos because you are helping people. God bless you.

"Some people are alone but not taking advantage of it, and others have no time to be alone. They have no opportunity to be alone. Or if they have the opportunity, they are afraid to be alone. They are afraid of themselves. They are afraid of their thoughts, their feelings, their anger, their grief, their confusion. They want to stay at the surface, looking outward, always stimulated, their mind always preoccupied. They do not know how to be with themselves. They do not know how to be with anyone. They do not know how to be with anything. Stimulated, agitated, frustrated, they are in a constant state of flux. And the power and presence of Knowledge that is speaking within them, they cannot hear; they cannot feel. This is tragic, particularly in wealthy nations where people have the opportunity to cultivate their inner life. This missed opportunity is such a tragedy. Put yourself in a poor country, where you live in cramped conditions, you have no personal time and space, crowded everywhere. You can hardly think for yourself. You hardly have a moment alone-driven, oppressed, threatened. So the people in the wealthy nations have freedom from these things to such a large degree, and yet they do not take advantage of their great opportunity." If you guys need reading material during this cold winter time, I warmly recommend reading the teaching entitled *Being Alone* from which the passage above originates, but also many other teachings that accompany it within *The New Message from God*

As someone who struggles with social anxiety and public speaking, I think it is very cool that you structure your videos in this way. I love the cinematic, poetic aspect of your videos. The gentle narration of your voice is reassuring, peaceful and affirming. But I also love the face-to-face sit down. It's sort of like breaking the 4th wall and allowing us to see you face on (quite literally). And yet, even in front of a camera, you come across kind, intentional, a bit shy and very loving. Thank you for sharing your art and heart. - Abeo

I love winter. As a very happy introvert the overcast short days energise me. The cold allows me to wrap up all cosy and warm, where I myself can regulate my own temperature. Summer brings the opposite , I get too hot, too bothered, and the unspoken expectation of having to somehow get out and "Enjoy" the sun, gives me the summertime blues. Of which we know there is no cure for. 🌨️

I live near a river in the most humid region of Italy, we’ve been living inside a deep fog these past few weeks from Christmas till now and it was so depressing, cold, gloomy; even romanticising life wasn’t enough: spending days studying Latin, reading in bed with my cat, watching kdramas, baking, listening to some quiet music, nothing was enough and I was feeling mentally and physically exhausted. Last night it rained a lot and it snowed a bit, the wind took the fog away but it’s hard to recover from this winter blues. Sometimes I think that it’s okay feeling blue, feeling restless, it means that our mind and body are recharging in some strange way. That’s how life is and these feelings won’t last forever (no feelings are finite) and you know, spring will come eventually :) Thanks for the video, it’s lovely to enjoy and share with you. Each season, makes us anticipate the next one and all the wonders it holds. My life rhythms change with each season which provides variety and different creativity. The magical dark days of winter can slow us down in a good way. It allows us to catch up on projects, read, learn a new skill, rest our bodies and spend relaxing times with loved ones. Time to reflect and maybe redirect. When I was young, I’m 66, before I embraced the changing seasons and incorporated their uniqueness into my life, I used to dread the cold; but now I see it as an important part of the life cycle for plants, animals and us. I recommend getting one--they usually have multiple settings and turn off in an hour or so, after you've comfortably fallen asleep. My cats love them too, and also the pressure-sensitive ones specifically for pets that only warm up when the pet sits on them. Mr. Darcy might enjoy that?

I love January! It's so important after the festive season to have solitude, a time both to recharge and to reflect. Reflect on the year gone by, but also to do some inner reflection. In saying this, I live with other people, so I'm never truly alone 😂

Winter is like that. While nature rests from its busy work and the trees are asleep, our spirits need to rest, too. Soon enough, the promise of spring arrives, the quickening of the forest awakened by the sun and warmth of the approaching summer. I used to feel bored by my Colorado winters; I learned to cross country ski and to get out into it. Now, winter is my close and intimate friend; I look forward to it's embrace each year. There is no other time when the mountains are as beautiful as they are in winter. Often times, I would ski into an untouched meadow of fresh snow lit up by the sun, the light turning the snow into a sea of brilliant diamonds. The emotion of this sight would bring uncontainable laughter with it. Explore the woods around you on skis or snowshoes, get far away from the cabin so you can hear the still voice of the forest, the quiet voice of nature herself. There is simply no other time of the year to experience this austere but intense beauty....

Here in my part of Canada we have had an unseasonably mild and drizzly winter…. the grey weather combined with the latest round of Covid restrictions has definitely contributed to winter blues! But I have learned to accept these low seasons of life and start new projects that give me a sense of accomplishment. There is definitely peace to be found in useful tasks! Your videos always inspire me to look for the beauty in simple things🥰

Candles do so much! Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, they provide warmth and comfort, and also serve a practical purpose. When my 3 kids were little, we’d go through the candle aisle in Walmart and smell all the different candles. We still do that 🙂.

Addressing the cold hands/feet has been a lifelong task for me as well. I find it is worse at higher altitudes. What helps me the most is keeping my core very warm so that my organs don't need to draw blood away from the extremities. I layer clothing on my trunk and try never to let my core get chilled (I am sure you do as well), I drink warm liquids constantly, avoid caffeine, and wear gloves. But the most essential part is keeping the core warm.

Not getting any snow or the real feel of the seasons can be a cause of the Winter blue, too! Believe me, as someone who is used to experiencing 4 seasons from childhood(not so extreme winter but definitely snowy enough and tempretures btw 5 c to -5 c ), the climate change and pollution that's made no-snow winters here, I feel like scaping somewhere with snow in the winters!

For 20 years we live in an isolated rural area. This was in Michigan and in the winter the roads are black ice and dangerous. I found that NO ONE would come and visit our area all winter long. We were very isolated. We had to learn to be creative and adjust. We spent a LOT of time snow blowing, taking care of the chickens, walking the dogs etc. but this still left us a lot of time alone. I worked on my art projects, I cooked a lot and did a lot of extra cleaning and organizing. I found that my yoga practice, my hot tub and soaking lavender bath each night really helped me manage this time. I did get used to this extra quiet lifestyle but it took a few years to adjust.

It’s funny how your feelings surprise you sometimes… I can relate so well. I think it’s so important to listen, then. And act on what they are telling you, if you can in any way. We‘re always pulling ourselves together, and missing important signs. Your video made me think of the Schubert song “the shepherd on the rock”, who sings of such loneliness and then such joy when the Spring “wants to arrive”. Yet another connection we human souls share, through lands and time. Big hug to you, Paola. I hope this is your last lonely Winter.

Watching this channel is so calming and inspiring for the beauty of language, images, and insight into such a different human being. At the same time, touched by the ways we are all related and I am noticing how many people seem to be experiencing fatigue and mal-content this past week or two. Thank you for the beauty.

I have started collecting candles (good ones, by small businesses and local artists) and I love it. I use to "save" my best candles instead of burning them. Now, since I get them as gifts for my birthday and xmas and such, I can get excited about burning them when I read or relax.

I've lived in tall mountains in what most people consider the boonies, middle of no where during winter. And there IS something magical about it. Maybe it's cause I was there as a kid, but before Christmas you could see in the snow the tiny foot prints of fairies and elves making sure we were good children. There was the beautiful icy starlight, and days spent dreaming of spring, and finding creative ways to stay warm. Each of us would get a small potato wrapped in tin foil as we left for school in the morning to keep our hands warm till we got there and then we had a great snack.
