This exemplified everything I feel lmao. You get a decent group of dudes together you hope it works but eventually you want to win and play good soccer so just the friendship of it doesnt hold up as much. We lost 6-1 yesterday, total pain.

Where I'm at majority of the players are unathletic slobs that have no idea how to play. I don't even know why they sign up to play in a league. At least you have some decent players in your area. Location is everything.

Played Sunday League since I graduated college. Had some amazing seasons, scored a ton of goals. Took a break this season though. Personnel changed and my form dropped a little and I got in my head and lost confidence. Had to play out of position last couple seasons and fell out of love with. In the end was causing me too much anxiety.

I stopped playing in my Sunday league because it felt like every other game just had some guy who peaked in high school who is now angry at the world and is looking for a fight. I mean, I also work most Saturdays and Sundays too so thats also a big reason lol.

This very true. I would rather play in a competitive Sunday league than in the USL or college teams. Right here in Atlanta there is a very high skilled Hispanic Sunday league with a very diverse groups of players. Most of the time the academy teams get beat by teams full of proper street ballers.

@@tchaasminw1580 It's in sliver backs park. Right next to highways 285 and 85. The hispanic leagues are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In my opinion they are a better league because they play 8v8 and 9v9 and 11v11. Silver Backs has their own 7v7 leagues Monday through Thursdays but it's just not as good as the Hispanic leagues. Also it's a Hispanic ran league but it's a diverse group of teams

The thing about SL is, it throws you off, you're so right when you said there are hidden gems that simply couldn't go pro for this reason or that reason, you don't just have to be a good player to go pro, you have to be lucky as well. it's a shame.

Wish there were sunday leagues nearby me. That's another gap in the US that I feel like people from elsewhere don't understand. The closest men's league to me is over an hour away. Yet in the city, there's dozens of leagues

i’ve been rekindling my passion for soccer and i’ve been really wanting to get back playing. I haven’t played since i was a kid and back then i didn’t play at a high level and also didn’t play very well. I’m 21 now and have been looking into trying to join some sort of league but i am a little afraid to embarrass myself as i haven’t kicked a ball in like 12 years. I’ve tried to convince my friends to join with me but none of them are into the game like I am. Can anyone offer any adivce if so that would be greatly appreciated!!

go to a local field several times a week with a ball and some cones and get the feet moving again. Eventually you'll see groups congregate to play pickup i'm sure. Scope it out and ask if you can join. Some of them will likely play on a rec league and if you're up to snuff they'll invite you! Barring that, rec leagues always have websites where you can sign up as a filler player / free agent

I'm 44 and have been playing in adult sunday leagues since I was 15. The only time I stopped sunday league was when I had a very low level pro contract for 6 years. I still to this day eat a McDonalds big breakfast with a small OJ the morning of any Sunday league match because when I was 15 I had the game of my life vs adults My best Sunday league story ever was in Denver when an offduty cop was on the other team and threatened to arrest me because I was trash talking him the whole game On a side note.. if you didn't know I was a pro in my 20s you'd just think I'm such an average 40 year old player. The thing with Sunday league vs the pros is there is no respect for any player in Sunday league. Pros understand how easily they can be beaten by other pros. Sunday leaguers have no respect and will go 100% into every tackle

@@markwilson5967he sort of covers it but pro players think quicker them Sunday league players. If you go in 100% at midfield the player on the ball has already thought of 3-4 options to get around you. Two more reasons The problem game is very control the space not the man. If you do be in and get beat there is open space to press into. Pros dont often mess up chances in open spaces like amateurs. If you dive in and give up the space your coach will give you an ear full if it happens too much. 2nd is the pros play together as a unit. If I get the ball and you are coming strong to my back, I know that when I glanced over my shoulder there was space to my right. So I know it'll be filled by my team. So if I need to make a quick one touch, I know someone on my team will be there. Sunday league players dont much much off the ball. Certain teams do it as you progress higher up the divisions but they don't do it nearly as well Also there is just respect and defenders understand how good players are. Sunday league players respect no one. It's actually why I love playing Sunday league

Tbh most of my Sunday League matches goes one of two ways: 1. Everyone sucks and I mean really suck as if none of us has ever kicked a football before, but we all laugh about it after the game and go for dinner afterwards. 2. Somehow everyone plays great football and gets competitve to the point of hurling vulgarities for even the slightly bad touch and even some small fights. I love Sunday League football because of the people you meet and its inclusivity. Everyone from different walks of life and skill levels, just on one field playing. But at the same time, while I love competitveness, I really dislike those who take it way too seriously.

The opposite is also true. I agree you don't have to take it seriously but the level of some players are really low. Like it's there first time ever kicking a ball and it gets frustrating losing every game.

there is a reason why european football is way better than american football, like you said many talented players are forced out of clubs due to financial reasons and that stunts their development and future. My coach who played soccer in spain professionally said that european soccer is easier to get into and get into good clubs.
