Here is a travelling tip you might not know Gabriel: Never bargain down the price but always bargain up. *For example, don't bargain that "I will pay for only 500 and 1000 is too much" Instead you go like this; "Hey bro, I want to go to ......... And I will only pay 350. Will ya take me?"* 4/5 times it will fetch you higher margins than bargaining down and this shields you from these scams too

Uber or ola is better most of the time. 2. Always ask locals for charges about street food or travel costs to avoid getting scammed. 3. Always book hotels online. Gabriel, I am a fan of your videos. But I have to disagree on your assumption that Rs. 500 has similar purchasing power that is equivalent to $50. I was born in India, actually in a small Himalayan village, and grew up there until my early 20s. I now been living in USA past 20 years. I often go back once or twice a year. I understand many foreigners being cautious of scam and rip off but that is definitely not a similar amount in purchasing power. But I hope your adventure continues with lots of great experiences.
@GabrielTravelerVideos2 жыл бұрын
It will depend on what metric you use. The two hours bus ride from Prayagraj to Varanasi was $2. A two hour bus ride in the US would probably be $20 or more, so that's 10 x the price, in which case 500 rupees = $6.50 x 10 = $65. But comparing hotel rooms it would factor out to be a bit less. Point being, 500 rupees is a nice chunk of money to a taxi driver.
@SK-xw4gu2 жыл бұрын
@@GabrielTravelerVideos If you use purchasing power parity, India will be cheaper on an average by about 4 times. So, roughly $25, not a small sum in India.
@Tara-Oziray2 жыл бұрын
@@GabrielTravelerVideos I truly agree that it depends on what metric we use and also what part of India you are in. In Delhi and major tourist spots a cup of tea can easily cost over Rs. 20 and much higher in bit fancier tea shop. In comparison tea cup can cost you less than Rs.10 in many other parts of the country. I also don know how far you travelled. Like from Connaught Place to pahargang it takes less than 10 minutes (2.8 km approx) in taxi if we take into account the Delhi traffic and it cost about 50 to 60 rupees depending on time you travel. I agree some taxi drivers has tendency to do what that driver did to you, especially in major tourist spots, and it wasn’t fair to you. I hope your journey continues with many more positive experience.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos There is something called "PPP Conversion Factor". Indian Rupee's PPPCF to USD is 22 (as of the year 2020 as per the world Bank data) which means that although you get around 75 Indian Rupees for 1 USD at exchange rate, the amount of 22 Indian Rupees buys you an assorted goods' and services' basket in India that would cost you 1 USD to buy in the USA. So you can do the arithmetic yourself as to what value the amount of 500 Indian Rupees stands for in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) : (500÷22)= ~23 USD. But it is for an assorted basket of goods of services. In the real world, some goods and services sold in India are not sold extensively in the US and vice versa and some goods cost similar or higher in India than in the US, (like topnotch electronics, IPhone etc, imported European luxury cars, imported alcohol, petrol and diesel etc). So the PPPCR which applies to the basket, does not necassarily apply to the individual goods and services strictly. Since cost of petrol and diesel in India and the US are similar/commensurable at the USD to Indian Rupee exchange rate, your vaguely guessed value of 50 USD to the amount of 500 Indian Rupees does not strictly apply for a hired private car ride.

That happens in the region of Ladakh. Some tourist spots only allow a travel of few hours due low oxygen levels. On my visit, I saw many tourists collapsing due to low oxygen concentration but Indian Army is there to provide medical assistance. While visiting Ladakh, it is recommended that you spend a couple of days acclimatising in the lower level towns. Unfortunately many tourists land at the airport and head straight out. If you're traveling by road like Gabriel then your body will gradually acclimatize

@@essee3984 It also happens in Gomukh Tapovan Trek in Uttarakhand. They conduct a fitness test and only then you are allowed to go. There are also small oxygen cylinders available to take with you, in case it's needed.

Sthaaneey log bahut milansaar aur madadgaar hain lekin kuchh log beeemaan ho sakte hain. I'm looking forward to more of your India 🇮🇳 vlogs especially Tapovan, Rishikesh. I really hope you stay the full six months you are entitled to with the tourist visa you have. Gabriel, please go to Deoriatal which is very close to Chopta. You need to go to Sari village by road and then trek 3 kms to Deorital which is a high altitude lake. you will not be disappointed by the views there.

The taxi and jeep drivers in India frequently seek ways to boost their revenues, especially with Westerners. But if you agree to a price you need to stick to it--even if they pick up extra passengers. It's a hard life and the road from Bageshwar to Karnaprayag is very remote and often in really bad shape. Affordable hotels almost never have towels or soap. And toilets are often rudimentary and quite dirty. That said, the mountains in Uttarakhand are magical and the remote villages are wonderful. Love these videos. Can't wait to go back.

Since you are in India, maybe you could check out the Tallest statue in the entire world called "statue of unity." It is close to 600 feet, basically as tall as a small mountain.

Yes, as long as you're comfortable in the mountains and pack the right things i.e. water, snacks, rain jacket and other appropriate clothing depending on the weather and possibility of storms.

If you take the taxi argument, what if you had said no to him, "It is private taxi, not accepting more people, unless we reset the price". Would that work?
@GabrielTravelerVideos2 жыл бұрын
He didn't speak any English, so that gets complicating to try to explain, especially on the spot. And then you're also in that situation of being stuck in a car with someone that you're having an argument with, an extremely awkward and difficult argument, with two other people in the car. Way better to just try and enjoy the ride and then hash it out at the end.

gabriel sir i hope you read my message ,i came accross ur vlog recently and i will say i am from delhi but i have never seen india this way ,to be honest this is the thing i crave for, the way you record moment its perfect ,there are alot vloger be it indian or foreigner who are just overreacting like "omg this is so good ,and cringe " .I can feel the calm in ur videos yet being surrounded by chaos even in varanasi , it was just calm yet its so crowded , i was also thinking of being a vloger and i wanted to do the same ,explore the hidden Real indian things which are there but ignored due to ofcourse leftist and islamist in our old gov ,Like what is india only taj mahal ,red fort ,humayun tomb all shitty mughal thing and beleive me its nothing there just plane boring ,like u explored the kilanjar fort or orcha no north indian atlest 85 dont even know such a beauty such architecture ,i hope u show the real india hiding under forest be it North east or south india or desert or coastal , i dont know u can travel to ajanta and ellora caves but i advise search more and find out hidden gems ,they are 100 of them hidden in forest ot small villages where no one goes as they are not shown simply to crush indian civilization as done by islamic by destroying temple and done by british to show that west clture is best and not yours, you can travel to some good indus valley sites in india maybe dholavira or lothal but kindly research as u might get dissapoint goinfg that much far ,south india has more gems as mughal or proper islam never reached there so most temples are safe not demolished ,i dont know north east hae some sadfety things but u can explore arunnachal pradesh.i also request u to if any of ur friedn come to india dont advise them taj mahal,red fort canaught place same boring thing and india tour over ,ask them for go to sanatan dharma places or indic forts they would love rather than seeing a tomb for his 17 wife who died while breeding like a pig and after that married again to some of his cousin that is not love its lust and who will forget about the smeeling yamuna behind it, i wish u safe journey india is a beautiful place but in hindus greed and in converted arab slaves their religious fanaticm which already partioned our country their quest to make all world islsmic then the doom day and plus the touch of leftist is making this country laggig behind but still its a beautiful place country side and outisde the cities where tribals or villages live are still the real india down to earth caring for all and the real vasudev kutumbakam " the world is my family" the sanskirt slok love you sir

Hi. I’ve never been to India, your videos are amazing, it looks gorgeous. I have a question, I’m not understanding how it’s okay to take a six hour car ride and only pay for around a half a gallon of gas. I’m not trying to be a smart ass, just genuinely curious how it works over there. Thanks.
@GabrielTravelerVideos2 жыл бұрын
Not really sure about the economics, I just try to pay whatever the local rate is, or perhaps a little more. It's always a balancing act trying to give them a fair deal while not letting them rip you off because you're a foreigner.

I already know you would rather not but, I recommend the luxury buses that travel long distances in India but they are fantastic and no where near first class rates even in India, comparing rail and air. There are assigned berths with curtains, private air conditioning, outlets, usually a hostess that gives water and travel bag with stuff, they announce stops for restrooms, dhaba or restaurants, walking paths and how long the stop will be. They are modern, clean…I have done overnight trips and I love this way to travel in India. After listening to your haggle strategies and your sadness I think you deserve to plan one of these…soon is time for luxury Gabe….hoping things get better soon, so you may be happy and enjoy 🙏🏽
@GabrielTravelerVideos2 жыл бұрын
I'm totally fine with taking those buses, I've taken them lots of times in the past. In fact I would prefer them, I love the ones with the sleeping bunks. But they only go between major routes and have to be booked in advance.
@juliebroglin97382 жыл бұрын
Maybe you can plan on some portion of your journey towards the end and sometimes you can book day of and ask a travel office the names of the bus companies to see if you can book online, also train travel can be booked online also, I’ve mostly gone on ones with one level with single berth on one side of the aisle and double berth on the other side, linens and blankets…..hope you find a route to travel…enjoyed part one and two today of your nomad origins….some of us don’t know where the itch comes from…great you know you come from a long line of traveling folks 🇮🇳☮️🕉
