Mumbai city is safe place. Pune City too is a safe city. If you wear traditional Indian dresses then you would feel more comfortable and could blend into Indian culture without any one noticing you are an outsider while traveling or staying in India.

My India is good, bad, ugly, poor, polluted, bad roads, Jagaar, corruption, good smell, bad smell, very diverse, mind blowing beautiful nature, slams, dusty, amazing foods, endless cuisines and varieties, hundreds of cultures and believes, hundreds of languages, overcrowded trains, buses.....but still I can’t live more than 7 days outside India....not even in Switzerland...I have travelled 25+ countries but every time I come back in country and take a deep breath....and I can’t explain that feelings.... A very critical and derogatory view of India is perpetuated in the West, but I've never heard anyone who's spent time in India have anything but good things to say about the place and its people.
