I proudfully shared this to my discord. I am a KBM player, home to a decent sized KBM family of players. Yet, I stand here showing them, I still am not on Evample's level. I have much to learn, so do they. I appreciated this video. I guess after making a tutorial for almost every mechanic I could think of for KBM players, it became frustrating and I gave up when people said they were still stuck in ranks, despite how many times I told them: mechanics are only part of the game. Very well done and said video Thanovic, thank you for saying some of the things I wish I should have said. Maybe I will make a video similar when the time comes and I can spread your knowledge more. I only became "decent" at the game because I watched pro's so much and learned from them. Today so many people expect "coaches" or "tutorials." I simply learned every mechanic I saw on controller, and did my best to transfer it to KBM to get to where I am now. It wasn't easy. It took hundreds of hours, I still share the videos from 4+ years ago of me "learning" the air dribble. I show people that video in hopes they see, 4 years ago, I was still "learning" the air dribble, now I am simply still mastering it.
@queequeg003 жыл бұрын
This is really good. Thanks for this. Small anecdote from my own experience: I had been a plat/diamond player for the last 3 years (when I was playing as I often took long breaks). I've got just over 1400 hours in game but have been playing since 2015 on and off. I haven't put in tons of mechanical practice, with the exception of dribble challenge 2, and I cannot air roll to change direction in the air, flip reset, air dribble effectively, half flip in game, speed flip or any other mechanic with any kind of consistency. I've probably doubled 2 goals ever. I just reached champ three weeks ago, and champ 2 this week. I still don't have any of these skills. I can't even fast aerial. But what I can do is focus on rotation, positioning, and consistency on what I already know how to do. I don't know if I will ever put in the time to be competent at advanced mechanics, but I am still going to try for GC. To those out there that have all those mechanics and spend many hours practicing them, but are still below D3, I suggest watching replays and working on positioning/timing. They are far more valuable than the fancy mechanics, and I am proof of that. Side note: I am 32 years old, and my reaction time is far from good.

I'm still new to Rocket League, having installed it after a friend started streaming, and my reflexes are that of a 50 year old. That's not too bad considering I'm 51. I'm not a huge gamer either, but when I do play (Minecraft or Satisfactory) I use mouse and keyboard. Your videos (along with Flakes, although he's a little more, shall we say, 'savage', have helped so much with understanding how and where to position myself. The hard part is growing enough fingers to use all the bloody buttons on this damn controller so I can get better at the basics before even jumping off the ground. This video, although not your most entertaining, had to be made, and I'm glad you've done so. If it wasn't for content creators such as yourself I'd have given up by now. I don't have as many spare hours as a lot of others do (if I spent 100 hours practicing x, y or z, it'd take 6 months), but what game time I do have will NOT be spent complaining. Anyway, thanks for all the help that you had no idea you were giving me.

Being able to assess when your actions led to a goal against, even when you weren't in net/last man back really is a major key to getting better. I don't get frustrated by much when I play but I find it infuriating when a teammate makes a string of bad plays and forces me into a position to make an impossible save only to spam "What a Save!" when I fail to make said impossible save. Example: The other day I had a game where my teammate freaked out and stopped playing (we were actually up 2-1 at the time). The problem? He had just missed an easy shot on an empty net (this was D2 Standard, he def should have hit the shot he had at that level) and then about ten seconds later drove right past the ball slowly bouncing into our end across middle. Why'd he do that? To go get the corner boost of course because apparently getting boost half way across the map is more important than playing the ball away from an attacking player. Well, the attacking play scooped up the ball, drove it towards our net and hit the top corner with a really good flick. The boost muncher started spamming "Wow!" and "What a save!" because out teammate didn't make a crazy save, voted to FF and just stopped playing when we refused (again, we were WINNING). This is a common occurrence in my experience. Perhaps this guy was just trying to deflect from his complete whiff on an empty net or inexplicably leaving the ball in the high slot for the other team with all the time/space in the world to drive it in on net. Or perhaps he expects super human play from his teammates and never bothers to reflect on his own. Either way, you'll never get better like that. I watch my own games all the time looking for times when I screw up and I'll own it when it happens in game. That's how you get better.
@Smackerol3 жыл бұрын
exactly. the majority of the people that blame their teammates are just looking for an excuse because they made the play really awkward for their team and they're upset that their teammates didn't make an ssl-level save/goal
@masterpieceinprogress1433 жыл бұрын
I honestly think this is just like running into a murf. Sometimes people just get too triggered too easily, and that can cause the game to fall apart even if you're playing well by your standards. The only people who seem to not have this problem are the well-respected pros, just based on the hundreds of hours I've watched them on YT. I completely disabled in-game chat because toxic people absolutely infuriate me. I'd recommend anybody to do the same if you find that the quick chat spamming dramatically changes your mood. After all, I'm not playing the game with the expectation to be a pro one day because I don't think I will ever be that good. I just play because I like when ball go woosh and bang. I realized that all the chat really does is upset me, and that's not what I'm looking for. Turning off the chat also helped me realize what really bothers me about the game. Although I still receive a fair amount of toxicity from early votes to FF or teammates trolling/afking etc, the most tilting thing about the game (for me) is just not playing up to my standards. I know that I can consistently out-pace the large majority of champ, especially in the air. Therefore when my mechanics are bad, I get all butt hurt about it and quit playing. Strangely enough, I don't seem to mind losing - provided I feel like I'm playing well by those standards. The better I get at the game, the higher those standards get, and the slower I progress. I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who find themselves stuck in any particular rank would report the same frustrations after having been in said rank for over 2000 straight games. TLDR; getting tilted will cause you to play like garbo, so figure out what tilts you and you can find a way to move past it and ultimately improve.

A lot of people seem to get lost in the grind and forget the soul purpose of the game. Improvement comes naturally if you enjoy the game for what it is. If you have that mentality of "imma vibe on rocket league, maybe try some things" not only will you naturally improve in the game, but also have a lot more fun while you're at it. The idea that people forget that and are trying to rush through to the top by cutting corners, blaming everything under the sun other than themselves while simultaneously claiming to be good, is so stupid to me. Although I personally don't like it when people take games as seriously as this, I think this video is a perfect wake up call to anyone in denial, and so this is probably one of the most important videos on self improvement so far.

Kudos on the honesty. One thing I think people should consider doing, Is taking a break from the game when you start falling in the divisions/ranks, you tend to try harder and get heated a lot easier thus making it easier to loose games. When you take a break for a few days, you come back fresh, with a better attitude.

I love it man! As someone who has spent years in sports, including 4 years as an Elite Level athlete at a very large SEC university, there’s not much that drives me more crazy than listening to some rookie give me a mile-long list of excuses for why they “can’t” do something. At the end of the day talent will only take a person so far. After that however it’s the person who comes early, stays late, is hungry to improve and remains humble that gets the gold. As my Grandfather always used to repeatedly impress upon me; “you gotta put in the time and do the work. The success will follow.” Or of course as the Navy SEALS say; “the only easy day was yesterday!”

Wow, I really needed this. Not so much the blame part, the practice part. I usually blame myself for losing. I always do even when I get upset at first. I know my rank, I've practiced a bunch, and I've watched hundreds of other and better players. I've made so much progress. I thought I was stuck in bronze, but I made it gold. I recently helped win in a tournament and didn't get super carried (I was a little but I focused on defense instead of leaving my team open letting my teammates focus on scoring). Thing is, some days I still feel stuck. It's good to know that I just need more time and dedication rather than just hearing "git good". I will eventually, but I'm glad I just need more time.

I do not swear on Rocket League Video as all age groups usually watch these videos, but HOLY F*CK……. This is what I’ve always wanted and expected from a video from a REAL Improvement guide. Bro this is how you get better !!! KEEP IT REAL AND STOP LYING TO YOURSELF. MASSIV content, quality content, I love this. Absolutely smashed it Thanovic, pls make more videos like this for our community. It’s the only way our player base will grow a thick skin to accept failure as stepping stones to success.

Another reason someone could be stuck is if they are trying to learn something a grand champion would be learning, they aren’t learning the simple things like shooting or arialing better and being more accurate with it

This is what I needed. When I first got into rocket league and launched it for the first time I was immediately silver. Now because of training and hard work and almost 1000 hours of gameplay. champion 1 div 2. You are a good man.

I really like the message this sends. Rank is temporary, Skill is forever. and ive been trying to take it to heart, its hard sometimes though as I still catch myself caring just a bit too much and thus stressing out about my rank and playing worse.

I absolutely love how brutally honest you were on this. I say that same thing to my friends that are lower rank. My brother always complains about smurfs. And i tell him to save the replay. About time someone made a video without sugar coating. Love it. Keep up the grind bro 🙂

The funny thing is that this is not a problem exclusive to rocket league or any other sport, it is a fundamental human weakness that I'm sure many of us see in ourselves in many circumstances. I think you summed it up best with "there is no shortcut to mastery". We just have to suck it up and get to work, in life and in league! Thanks Thanovic!

Really good quality video, I took a 4-5 month brake from burn out and in the last 2 weeks have got back into rl, before i stopped i was a good allrounder in D2, im currently playing casual 2s and training along with drop shot to get back into aerials and directing it where i want. I feel like im somewhere in Plat 2 skill wise currently. Here on is written after watching the whole video. Everything you talk about is amazing advice and anyone whos salty, just needs to remember. Pros are where they are because they have thousands of hours to get where they are. amazing quality as always.

I agree with you 100%. I never care for my rank. I Do have to say every time I focus on training and workshops I see myself go up in rankings. But always when I am peaking, for some reason I start losing motivation. I stop playing for a few months, I come back, slowly get into the grind again and peak again. Over and over. Anyhow I Peaked at champ 3 so far. I love this game but it also asks for a lot of attention if you want to do it correctly. I will always love RL for how hard it is, a game that challenges me is a game for me. Meet you guys on the field :)

Rotation is the thing I see people doing the least and ball chasing the thing people do the most. This advice is on point. I literally always think what could I have done better any time my friends and I get scored on. Sadly they don't always think this way.

It’s my 6th month playing already hit champ, the watching replay part really helped me and also stopped blaming my teammates is when I started to rank up! I spent more time practicing in free play and training than playing casual matches, I completely agree to everything you said! Thanks for making this eye opener! 🐐

Man, I’m only half way through the video, but it’s hitting me really hard. In a good way though. I really dig the editing and the narration. And your blatant approach to what we’re doing wrong and why is something I, and many needed. This is really all stuff that’s been said before, but no one actually takes it seriously. I’m glad to see someone putting forth attention and detail to these vital points.

Completely agree, the one thing you didn’t touch on as much is the people in sort of the opposite situation, they’d been in training, put hours into training, they can do all the basics to a good level but there still gold and plat. I’ve noticed since free to play people aren’t playing the game enough, leads to terrible game sense and making several wrong decisions and when you mix that with blaming everyone but yourself, that’s a recipe for disaster

This video is really motivating I never really save replays because I either forget or something happened in the game I dont want to remember but thinking more closely and educationally about it, those mistakes I dont want to remember are mistakes I SHOULD remember and embrace them and build a foundation around those mistakes to build up and out for the long run.

Excellent video Thanovic, hands down one of your best videos to date. If it's ok I wanna share a thought regarding being stuck in an elo, even tho you feel you improve. It's not just you tho, it's everyone playing. Golds now are so good compared to golds a year ago. The entire population of rocket league improves and it's all down to how much effective practice and how long you can have a focused mindset every day. For the people stuck in diamond or champ - you are improving. You're getting better, but at the same rate as everyone else stuck in this elo.
