We also had a Selkirk Rex that someone dumped in a barn we were demolishing on our property. She was tuxedo colored and one of the most talkative, intelligent, loving, protective, friendliest cats ever. However she was also pretty stupid however.

​@@lucilleverton5202 While I'm not familiar with Selkirk Rex, I have a Persian with whiskers more curly than Sir Eugene, here. Her whiskers do not help with navigation the way most cats' do, and I often end up brushing them out of her eyes and nose (or whatever part of her face they decide to point). I haven't seen her become "stuck" due to this, but I don't really have any small spaces in my house where she could manage that.

Man, as a curly-haired human I appreciate this because it’s obnoxious how often they’ll brush curly hair straight and send you off as though they’ve done you a favor. I have to tell stylists not to use heat, to cut layers, all sorts of things they should already know, because no one seems to understand curls and they treat them like they’re a problem to be corrected.

I also have curly hair and once asked a hairdresser if curls were more fun or annoying to cut. She said it depends on the dresser and she personally liked working on curls because every curly head is different, but I can see why a dresser who doesn't want to put in the work would get frustrated

The sweetest, softest cat I’ve ever encountered was a Rex (Cornish), sort of the short-haired cousin of this breed. They also make great loving pets that still need grooming but a bit less hassle. And they still have the curly fur. This kitty is the prettiest thing ever! Loved the big curly bunny feet! 🥰

There's a gag with naming a pet that I feel is true sometimes. If the pet is named something like "Cujo" or "Augustus", y'know the classic evil/dangerous/tyrannical names, they end up being the most laid back pets. If you name a pet a cutesy name like "Princess" or "Fifi", that pet is the spawn of Satan. And, of course, dumb names like "Goose" or "Cauldron" means it's a wildcard that probably ate an entire box of crayons lol

I had one of these as a kid! Unfortunately deaf, the breeder originally put him up for sale to ensure only people who would take care of him would ask, but gave him away for free. A deaf cat with wool like fur was quite the character. He loved the vacuum cleaner and knocking things over. You could sneak up on him quite easily.

We had a curly cat born in the late 70s. She had a VERY curly belly. She had a very long coat, and only the belly was curky. Mom says it turned curly after she had an accidental litter of kittens before she was neutered (vets wouldn't do it before 6 months and she had them at around 5 months or so).

To whomever named this beautiful chill kitty thank you! That was my first laugh of the day. That is also the most interesting and best possible name that anyone could have come up with. And he is such a beautiful cat. I got a cat from the pound many, many years ago that had similar coloring but not the curly hair. The vet I took him to said that he was a brown tipped Siamese. I actually didn't go to the pound to get a cat. I went with a friend who was getting a kitten. Then I noticed a cat in it's kennel. I held out my finger in front of his kennel. And he did the cutest thing by reaching out without using his claws and touching my finger with his paw while meowing. And just like that I knew I wanted to take him home. The only issue is that they only kept cats for 30 days before they euthanize them. And he was on his 29th day. They planned to euthanize him the next day which was the soonest that I could come back to get him. Since I was driving my friend home on both of our lunch breaks to take her new kitty home. I spoke with the person showing us around who refused to promise me that they would hold him for me. Then spoke with her manager and explained that I'd be coming back the following day on my lunch break plus I gave them half of the amount that was needed to kinda put a "hold" on him. And the next day I came back on my lunch break to pick up my cat. His first name was Cat. His whole name was Cat Alejandro Alfredo Antonio De La Hoya San Tomas Buearegard Rodriguez Daniels. When I would come home from work he would greet me at the door by standing on his hind legs, reaching up with his front legs and letting me pick him up to hug him. He was such a loving and chatty cat. He was also very tall or is it long? I'm 5'3". But when he'd stand on his back legs his front paws easily reached my shoulders. One of my neighbors said that was the biggest cat he'd ever seen. He was such a sweetheart. I couldn't have asked for a better cat. Those 6 years he was with me are such precious memories. I love and miss him to this day.

We had one at the rescue I used to work with. She is a short haired Selkirk Rex and she’s a ginger. Her name is Charlie after one of the characters on the show Supernatural. I’m the one who got to foster and socialize her after she was spayed. If I wouldn’t have had 2 cats of my own and at pet capacity for my apartment complex she would’ve been a foster fail. They’re very soft. Their fur kind of reminds me of a cross between a teddy bear and those velveteen rabbits that some department stores used to sell around Christmas time.

My Selkirk Rex has long hair like this kitty (but smoke colour), it is soft but not silky like other cats as its textured and has a coarseness to it. Even his tail which isn’t that curly and looks fluffy if you look at the individual hairs it has like a fine crimp. I always think yes he is soft then when I pet another cat I’m like no, he’s not soft like a cat, more like a soft dog.
