There's a church in my hometown that has doctors, dentists, optometrists volunteer their service every Wednesday evening to see people that can't afford to go to the doctor, dentist etc. They have a pharmacy for prescriptions and everything. Afterwards they have a big meal prepared and feed everyone. This is a great service to the community. I wish all churches that were able to these things would.

God loves a cheerful giver. I am glad Al addressed the 'prosperity gospel' which is based on worldly giving. Giving is a heart issue. If you are giving just to get a worldly return for giving or tithing you completely miss the whole point. This is the issue I have with pastors getting paid. No where in Scripture does it say pastors should be getting paid, plus housing, plus cars and whatever else. I believe pastors should work a normal job and be a pastor. Paul talks about being a tent maker while still preaching the gospel. People who make up the church should all be servants as Christ was a servant. Now the giving the church, Christ's bride does do needs to go to those in need ie widows, orphans, poor and disabled. This is why the structure of America's 'church structure' is flawed and lacking people of real faith. Hence this is one reason Jesus chased the money changers out of the temple it was a heart issue and they were stealing from the poor for wordly gain. This is much of the same thing we see going on today in many instances. Great job with the podcast today on explaining why we should give.
@noahmcmonigle25142 жыл бұрын
The prosperity gospel is horrible, but it is completely separate from a pastor getting paid. As someone who has been called into ministry, I believe that I can be a full-time Pastor as long as my heart is in the right place! There are multiple Scriptures that speak of the pastor’s right to be paid-it must be within a Biblical frame of mind though! I hope that I didn’t come across wrong! God bless!!
@cotkministries2 жыл бұрын
@@noahmcmonigle2514 I would respectfully disagree. A pastor could preach and still work a normal job. The problem is most people who are believers don't want to serve (secretary, counselor and other) without pay in the roles needed to help support the pastoral role. So the pastor then has more on his plate to do which ends up being a full-time role. If the body of Christ would function as more of a body then we wouldn't need full-time pastors.
@dfischer58782 жыл бұрын
@@cotkministries not so the pastor or Shepard is to teach the flock ( primarily) if you are dedicated to that it requires much more than an off the hip sermon. They also do pastoral care meeting with their people. 1 cor 9:14 and1 Tim 5:17-18 support paying your pastor/elder The deacons pick up the other needs if the church

@@cotkministries I do think that some of the other positions should be volunteer but the Scriptures say the Pastor has a right to payment: 1 Timothy 5:17-18, but is shouldn’t be used as a way to get rich! I would rather do it voluntarily, but I also want to devote myself to this full-time and so I would obviously need to be supported. It’s all about the heart! God bless!!

I see where Phil’s coming from but Jase is right. Crying isn’t the issue. In our humanity we are sad that we don’t get to live this daily life w/our friend/family member when their body dies. That’s normal mourning. But of course we grieve much more for unbelievers because death is literally the end of us seeing them again. It’s normal emotion of missing someone particularly if it’s a child that dies.. verses hysterics over the finality of death. Hope is the difference.
