Thanks for explaining the truce breaking thing. I still don't really agree with it but I understand your point. I used to play in and host 30-40 player lobbies an few years ago and we didn't allow mid war allies or trucebreaking and it worked fine for us. The balancing factor was if you fully commit to a war you may be attacked by another player instead of a threat of a trucebreak.

With the recent updates to Estates, this is the new strat I recommend as the two starting nations both are now much easier to play as a result, you also do not need to get exploration or expansion ideas too as a result either. Instead you can get Aristocratic/Mercenary/Quality depending on which route you wish to take your Empire, if you plan to get rid of the Nobles estate pick Quality and if you plan to release Zulu as a Vassal and pick Trade over Influence, go Mercs, btw the Aristocratic ideas only synergise with Mutapan, they're pointless on Great Zimbabwe so bare this in mind; Then Trade/Maritime/Influence Ideas Early followed by Economic/Humanist as all of these synergise with the unique ideas of all of the nation choices. Then later Influence or Trade if you plan to go vassal empire and didn't already pick Influence. You ask "why Maritime?" Well... so you can have massive fleets of heavy ships which can go toe to toe with any potential invasion force by sea from say Britain, Spain, Portugal or the Netherlands and so you can get get your fleet mission done super early. Only pick Maritime in a solo game, not in multiplayer and only pick this if the AI manages to snipe land from you, otherwise pick Naval ideas as your second military idea (idea slot 4) to complete the fleet mission without having to build before you complete Economic. In EU4 as Zimbabwe or Whichever of the two nations you start as, be it Butua or Mutapan; DO NOT get expansion or exploration ideas, you do not need them. Instead use Merchant exploration privilege while the century long colonist is in effect for extended range and a free explorer for your fleets (make sure to have free slots open to do this, same with the priests for native integration privilege), you also get a free inquisitor, use them to explore all of Africa while they're still alive (you usually have a 10 to 20 year window, which is enough time). Once you're making 15 ducats+ a Month you can actually get away with developing up to three colonies at a time (use the colonist for merchant colonise missions or for your south African colonies, use the slow ones for the islands so the Europeans can't snipe them). If you do this, you'll never have to contend with Spain or Portugal trying to snipe south African area provinces (For some reason the AI always beelines to colonise around the player so they can steal trade power and declare on you, don't give the AI the opportunity, soon as you take all the land in the African South region the AI will buzz off, at most Spain or Portugal will send down two or three trade ships in an attempt to snipe some of your trade power but that is about it, The European AI usually shows up around the 1520 mark at Tech 6 because their range would now be long enough to leapfrog to the cape region which they will attempt to take). Don't bother with developing provinces to get Institutions, there is a Muslim Wonder in the Horn of Africa that spawns Institutions, befriend and ally a nation along the coast which isn't in your conquest objectives and get them to share the institution with you once they acquire it, that way it will tick up at 1 per month in your capital and you'll have it within 2 to 5 years. With either nation you'll be in a situation where you'll be spending between 630 and 720 mana per tech up without institutions and around 500 with them, which rounds itself out in the long run; You can also easily afford three 2 mana advisors, despite the condition of your rulers (70% of the time they always seem to have bad mana), you should have more than enough to handle the drawbacks of not developing to spawn institutions. By the time your colonist buff runs out around 1570 to 1600, you'll be making 30 to 50 ducats a month, more than enough to upgrade all your provinces to factories, then swapping to 3 mana advisors so you can easily stay on par with European nations tech wise regardless of your institution level. The cost of developing in Africa is too high since you can't get the 10% dev cost reduction in tropical as an African nation. But I do advice you do dev up early before the 1470 mark to acquire the 20 dev in capital and 10 dev in gold provinces regardless of the high cost (also take development from the high dev regions you conquer to your north to dev up the capital, you should be able to aquire a total of 5 development from all of them - also don't forget to upgrade your capital and get the priests dev cost reduction from temples privilege too and make the merchants happy, all of that should give you with the edict for dev cost reduction a total of 25% to 30% cost reduction which will mitigate the 55% debuff), because you want to get those missions finished early, after that dev by placing buildings, preferably via Diet missions because with a Diet mission you'll get 2 dev points as opposed to 1, 1 from the building + 1 from the mission. All of the provinces have horrid dev debuffs; So your best bet is to dev first once you have 100% prosperity then place buildings to hit the number required, but only for your gold provinces, do not do this with the capital, you don't have time, you need to start taking land to the south as soon as you can. Early on you'd want to make the Priests happy for the 10% stability cost reduction + get a stability cost reduction adviser to get the +1 needed for mission, then activate the act which gives 20% reduction then use the action again for +2. Be very careful with looting provinces, the Mwari religion has a nasty event for looted provinces which can randomly happen which gives -1 stability. Also another nasty event when you have devastation, basically the creation god doesn't like it when you're being dishonourable in war. So it is better to convert to another religion and become a republic at some point. If you start as Butua instead of Mutapan you'll have a much harder start and you'll be racing against the clock to get your free colonist and high ducat income to stop the Europeans sniping land from you, you wouldn't be able to vassalize your coastal neighbour Kilwa right out the gate in December when they're weak with only 8 divisions before they get allies, using the Merchant mission to get a coastal province resulting in you having to deal with wars and aggression from them for the nest 40 to 50 years, as opposed to only being at war for 20 or so years as Mutapan then spending the rest of the game building tall until you get the imperial cv. However, you won't have to deal with the Zimbabwe collapse debuff or modifier Mutapan gets that gives them -1 stability and you can ally their rivals. Rozwi Empire also has better ideas than Mutapan and doesn't get all Mutapan's nasty random events throughout the game. As Mutapan you won't be able to form Rozwi btw. Both Rozwi and Mutapan can form Zimbabwe, which in my opinion has both better and worse ideas than Rozwi so you decide if you want to choose new ideas and mission; but much better ideas than Mutapan, so if you started as Mutapan, choose to become Zimbabwe; unlike Mutapan it doesn't get the nasty Mutapan events so it is worth doing anyway. Zimbabwe has great bonuses if you have vassals, while Rozwi is great ideas if you want to sit and build tall in South Africa, while Mutapan's ideas are only useful until you have unlocked all unique ideas and they have better early ideas than Rozwi and Zimbabwe but worse late ideas, so by the time you reach the mission to swap over, swap over. All three share the same missions, so there isn't really any point to swapping to Zimbabwe unless you have vassals you wish to retain rather than absorb and for the 5% extra dev cost reduction and inflation reduction. Both Great Zimbabwe and Kongo are in a position to do a full African conquest, although only Kongo gets missions to acquire perm claims on everything and doing an ownership conquest with help from an European ally. While as Zimbabwe on the other hand you conquest via vassalizing everyone once you get Imperial CV around 1700+ using your Zulu Warriors.

Habibi choses such good music for these videos, really gets you feeling it when you're watching numbers move around a map. From the older videos' jojo music to the newer ones music choices on point. o7 to Aksum for not interrupting your scaling, his taking of east africa set him up well for it but bro was cool and didn't follow up. Did you never get to showcase the power of a United Africa against more world powers? Shame. Was a good video series.

Actually first, damn. Just wanted to pop by and say that: You've improved much in your gameplay. I remember when you first started and you had a bunch of the EU4 MP autists flocking around you because of your charisma and lack of autism, giving you advice and sort of tutoring you. Quite honestly you were a bit insufferable back then. You were at best a mid MP player but you had the attitude of a top 10 player. I distinctly remember popping into your stream once and giving some advice and then getting promptly muted by your moderators and chewed out for "backseat gaming". Not even 2 minutes later you read my comment and actually applied it because it was correct and good advice. Nowadays you're actually a great player and have the skills to back up all your smack talk. Even though I gave up on EU4 MP ever since Tinto got it's incompetent grubby little hands on it, I still pop by occasionally and watch your channel. Keep it up!
