He's doing it to screw with the protagonist, because he knows how it looks to them. Notice how team protagonist keeps interpreting what's going on as if they're all going forward in time (including trying to outrun Sator, which just means going TOWARDS Sator faster). Sator, from his perspective, got the box BEFORE counting down, and in fact he isn't counting down at al, but counting up. He's keeps both timelines in mind at the same time, and acts in reverse to counteract the inverted time. Very trippy.

I can't get over this scene and the way it made me feel the first time I saw it. - First you know you follow a protagonist dealing with an unknown hostile force able to reverse the flow of time. - Then in a tense moment, your partner saying about a monitoring of the radio communications of the area it's talking backwards, and you know it means trouble incoming. - And finally you see a car coming at you then chasing you backwards. I can't imagine what went through the protagonist's head. Personnally I expected absolutely anything to come out of this reverse Audi and was on the absolute edge of my seat.

Hostile can not reverse the flow of time, it reversing the entropy ( all the physical/chemical processes for one/couple objects ) while the flow of time goes as normal forward. In real physics of this universe, its generally assumed time isnt possible to reverse. But entropy its possible to play with standard entropy, like in sc-magnets at different gravity without putting energy it holds more heat "over time" rather than dissasipating it. There is some studies about reverse entropy, but its not practical and not usefull as I remember. Same thing with quantum entanglement its not useful to tranfer info. Its assumed that universe was created like some sort of imaginary bubble with random set of rules so any alternate universes is possible as an imaginary bubble that cannot crossover our imaginary bubble universe, because there is no rules in place for them to interract. So imagine there is possibly infinite amount of non-crossing universes with infinite amount of possible random rules like its space can be infinite, or there is no time-space. Because time can not exist itself in our universe according to our universes rules, it can only exist as a consequence of a space and gravity. Perception of time is different depending on gravitational force. And consequence of space is time and vice versa. If you dig a hole there is mountain somewhere. Its interconnected. Assuming that we are in different alternate imaginary bubble non-crossing universe with random rules that makes possible to revert entropy of specific object ( assuming objects exist and follow our standard rules) or all objects as time goes forward and/or goes backward. Because entropys direction does not dictate the flow of time. If you can revert the time in alternate universe then anything that you do in the past post factum will have an effect on the future. And you can change it any way you like. But if you revert the objects/subjects entropy of yourself for instance without reverting the time then YOU go backward in forward flowing time and anything that YOU do in the past does not effect the future thats already happened because things happen in standard flow of time and you cannot change the course. If you revert the entropy of all objects in the universe, it will make zero sense because everything will go backward in forward going time and every physics rule will just be used in reverse. Why did I put alternate universe is because I needed you to see if you can reverse time and make changes in the past it and reverse time again it will change future, which is not possible in our universe because you will need to change fundamentals so called "random/arbitrage set of rules" and change relationship between space and time and gravity. You need to break the ties to make it easier like in order to reverse the time flow how do you make negative gravity of an object with self-contracting space. With that logic if that process goes wild, all objects visible or not in the universe with negative gravity becomes nothing and self collapsing space destroys the universe like there was nothing. Reverting the entropy of an object/subject does not revert the gravity nor does space which means that flow of time is unchanged which in turn means objects/subjects goes backward in forward time and anything to change in the past is not possible to have an effect in future because you are not technically in the past you are in current flowing time with reversed chemical/physical rules. Even the movies said gravity is standard for reversed person and you are not reverting time

We have the laws of motion and gravity from Newton. But let's say now that something is moving at the speed of light now then it turns into Einstein's theory of relativity. Now we have an object moving so fast it can bend its gravitational force due to its exceptional speed. I like this movie but the new laws they make don't really make sense because like you said time flows a specific way. Time inversion makes it so the person is inverted using entropy manipulation. But how does it affect everything else around them? If their atoms are disturbed from their natural process then you could even have a fusion/fission reaction. Inverting one person would cause different reactions to different objects and people around them. How would gravity even work on them? Wouldn't they also age backwards? Wouldn't an inverted bullet just burn on impact because of the two literal opposite forces coming into contact with one another? If everything that's supposed to happen already happened but we're just seeing it from the perspective of the protagonist and Neil came back to help him wouldn't it have a longer lasting effect? More questions are made than answered just like any scientific breakthrough.

The important part is 3:34: TP throws an _empty_ orange suitcase, the algorithm part remains in his hands, he will throw that to his "inverted self" in the silver Saab. Later on TP will lie about it, when he tells Sator he left it in the BMW. However, Sator saw the hand-off and will later get to the crashed Saab, retrieving the algorithm.

The logistics are mad, but... As a former citizen of Tallinn, I can assure you the film makes it look much faster, it's the art of cinema :) In reality it's rather weird driving the traffic backwards. But true, no CGI on major scale, they really did full blown backwards stunt driving. Amazing effort we all have to agree. In some scenes they filmed the SUV going forward and the BMW is reversing and then they reversed the footage. Sometimes it's the other way around. Also another thing is that they didn't even used the entire highway, just some sections of it and they filmed the other scenes in said part if the highway. It's the other cars being driven by the extras that makes it look different when it's actually not. A trick used by every film maker in the film making industry, hell even Corridor Digital does that and they're just a few group of people.

I think the key thing here is that they deliberately stripped down character development to almost nothing. The audience is meant to engage with the concept more than the characters. A lot of critics will hate this from a film study perspective. If you don't really get it on the first watch it also feels like a pretty shallow film. It's crazy to think that the SUV driving backwards is actually Sator driving forwards trying to cut off the BMW because he thinks the algorithm is in it. Sator has inverted himself after getting the information through to him on the highway. He goes out there as a part of the temporal pincer movement to search the stopped BMW "he was lying. It wasn't in the BMW, so where is it?" He's inverted travelling backwards through what just took place, spotting the hand-off and flipping the Saab. That's where he pulls a handbrake 180 knowing where it is, hitting the BMW's wing mirror, and weaving through the traffic to get to the Saab and the algorithm. He then heads to the Freeport inverted, takes forwards moving Kat into the blue room, shoots her, then the forwards moving Sator comes out of hiding to find out which vehicle the algorithm is in, Ives comes in shooting, and forwards moving Sator goes into the turnstile and vanishes.

If so the rear mirror would have broken more and not repair itself when hit by the 'car in reverse' the 'car in reverse' would not have stopped by using the accelerator. The 'car in reverse' crashed on the road would not have acted like an inverted car putting itself on the road and repairing damage (from a non inverted point of view)

4:54 this part that doesn’t make sense. This car is inverted, yet the protagonist is able to stop it by pressing the brakes, as if the car had forward time momentum. Which doesn’t make sense. In that moment, if the car is inverted, from its perspective it isn’t braking, it’s accelerating. So it would’ve made more sense to press the accelerator to stop it in forward time. Now, in reverse time it looks like it sprung to life on its own, without anyone pressing the accelerator.

Slight physics problem with these cars... -If the cars are not inverted but the driver is, the car wouldn't have the reverse-momentum or be capable of rolling over in reverse... the reverse-time driver would have to shift into reverse gear to go forward from his perspective, and he car itself would obey normal forward-time physics. -But if the cars are inverted, then they would indeed do that freaky reverse-momentum and reverse-crashing... but since they ice up when set on fire, their combustion engines wouldn't function. Turn the car on and the engine is instantly frozen solid and won't run, lol.
