Whilst describing what Google Glass would be like to a friend, I said "you could read the news and keep your eyes on the road. You nod your head to maximize the screen." He floored me with his reply. "What happens if you sneeze then? You'd go into the back of a lorry."
@ryanb.77515 жыл бұрын
It's not exactly google glass though is it? It's not really an awkward smart phone that's also a pair of glasses, it's a pair of glasses that overlays against real life objects around you and allows you to view them as something else. However, it is a simplified, though instead streamlined description of the Microsoft Hololense.

A lot of people seem to miss the point, when it comes to the way Ricky and Steve act in these podcasts. They are being purposefully antagonistic, and argumentative, to get the best out of Karl, and make him expand on his ideas, for comic effect. Ricky and Steve realised early on, that Karl thinks differently, than other people, which is why they always wanted his opinion on things; news, science, philosophy, etc. Karl has some bizarre ideas, as well as some good ones, but, a lot of the time, he’s not very good at explaining himself; that’s when Ricky and Steve pounce. They aren’t doing it to be mean, or to make Karl look stupid; they are doing it, so that Karl will expand on his point, go deeper into weird areas, and, hopefully, more funny stuff will come out of it. They are really characters, with Ricky taking on a “know-it-all bully-type” of role, while Steve is more the “professorial mediator”, who prevents Ricky from interrupting Karl, when he’s in full flow, talking absolute bollocks, while also pretends to be a pompous know-it-all, too. But, in the end, Karl always wins haha. That’s why it was the perfect dynamic; and why the show worked so well. I really wish they were all still recording radio shows/podcasts together. It would be great to see them hosting their own KZbin show together; it could be filmed this time; then we’d get to see Karl’s expressions, as well as Ricky and Steve falling off their chairs, laughing hysterically... ...oh well, one can always dream, I suppose haha.

Karl's prediction about glasses isn't all that comical. About a year and a half ago I was walking around this site/field that had seen battle and such during WW2. I remember thinking "Wouldn't it be awesome to have glasses that could project 3 dimensional objects, buildings, etc. onto the lenses so that one could get a much better feel for how it looked back then as they walked around. There could also be earphones that tell you historic facts ABOUT the things you were seeing and such. Regarding bumping imto things? There'd be a sort of directional pathway laid out (kinda like following a highlighted pathway to a waypoint in a game.) I guess it's because I'm an artist and 3D model artist myself, have been for over 20 years, so I often come up with things like this in my mind when I'm in such a situation. I get lots of inventions and my brain somehow knows how it should work but I have no idea how to create it because I have no technological background. Yeh I can take computers apart and put them back together but the things I envision require a much more technologically minded person.

Then how would Ricky stroke his own ego?
@ThisCharmingMan19845 жыл бұрын
Paul Dunkirk-Greenbaum After Karl started getting more and more involved in their XFM Show, Ricky said many times, that it should be called “The Karl Pilkington Show”- because he knew pretty much everyone was tuning in to hear Karl’s bizarre thoughts. Ricky and Steve said they were just there to prod him, to get him to talk, because he didn’t really want to at first haha. He was a very reluctant major hit/celebrity, in the beginning haha. I think they only kept it as “The Ricky Gervais Show”, because Ricky was still most famous of the 3 of them, and to keep the continuity from the radio show, so the fans would know it was the same thing. I’m just glad there are so many hours of the 3 of them together, to enjoy; I’ve been listening to the show since it started, 17 or 18 years ago, and, even though I’ve heard each episode dozens of times, it still makes me laugh. And then the animation of the podcasts and audiobooks came along, and somehow managed to make an amazing thing even better; I didn’t think it was possible to improve the show, but those animators did something extraordinary. 😀 I’ll never get bored of listening to these 3 twonks bicker and argue about: hairy Chinese kids, “cheeky freaks of the week”, kids with big heads and webbed hands, and all the other nonsense that came up, during their many bizarre, rambling conversations haha. All the best.

I like how Karl unintentionally predicted both movie premises and actual things in reality. Pants get replaced with bodysuits in movies about the future, obesity and starvation are making people weaker, people are making a bunch of smoothies and protein shakes (also Wall-e, another movie about the future, had food in a cup), and the English alphabet with more letters is literally just the Spanish alphabet.
