The Right Companion: Bull Terrier

One month ago we lost our first bull terrier, Nostalgia. She was with us for 5 1/2 years and was about 1 1/12 when we rescued her. She was sweet, loving, loyal and perceptive to what each person she met needed. It was incredible to watch. Over the years I continued to see how beautiful and perfect she was. They are gorgeous dogs because their personalities match their looks. We miss her greatly and are looking for another one to adopt. We have a red heeler who is very lonely without her sister and to be honest...so are we. They are magic!

I've got an English Bull Terrier and she is a friendly as any lab or golden retriever, the amount of people that avoid her or say she's a pitbull drives me insane ! Good on ya for spelling it out like it Is FUN LOYAL SAFE & CLOWNS !

I have a 2 year old bully, hes such an arse and never stops clowning around. Unlike what this guy says, he's great with children and animals. very stubborn and protective too :) Loves attention and people and when he's not sleeping he's bulling around :D best companion ever.

Bull terriers were bred for putting their heads in your pocket or handbag and stealing anything remotely edible, hence the long pointed snout. On a more serious note, these adorable clowns will warm anyone's heart and put a smile on any face. Ask a child to draw a dog and I'll bet you they draw a perfect bully every time.

my bull terrier is 3 years old and one of the friendliest dogs i know. he also loves cats, little dogs, big dogs.. as a matter of fact he's never met a stranger. you can't judge a book by its cover. i think bull terriers are great, they are just very stubborn, more so than the average dog. it takes a lot of patience and time to train one.

I have three, one male and two girls. They are excellent with other dogs, in the park, or at the shows. All three from different breeders. I think it is how we have socialized them. The male is intact, and is a nothing but a gentleman.

i had my brothers bull terrier for a day, very nice dog. Very obsesive to when it comes to things he want to chew on, footballs, plastic bottles, ropes etc. For some reason he likes the water and tries to catch fish(or something) i discovered that when i took him out to the beach. I kept calling him to come out but he looked back at me like "Why should I?, you still here right?" I became mad and frustrated and walked away from the beach and then he followed:)

My mum's favourite breed. So comical and very friendly, at least the ones I have met. My GSD use to play with a female. Boy, did they have fun! The BT's owner said my dog is one of few who doesn't mind her rough play. If we were to get one, I'd start off with the mini BT.

the male pups are the best dogs you can ever had, all you need is a firm hand a big heart & THEY'RE YOURS FOREVER! if you buy these in south america, the price will come out to be 500 dollars in american currency, + 200 for transportation. i bought mine in colombia for 8 million pesos = 400 dollars, but i was in the country. it might be harder to buy one if your not present with the breeder, but idk. all i can say it was the finest breed of a dog iv ever seen!

I enjoy the comments, especially from people, trolls, who comment on how ugly they are. Make it fun for us BT owners, tell us what dog you think is better looking. We bullies owners aren't blind, and consider our breed the best looking. I find most of the toy breeds rather useless, and carrying your dog like children makes them less of a dog. I have had Afghans, Boxers, Skye Terriers, and more. Bullies make me laugh and give so much love. They will be the last breed I ever own, they are that special.

The only breed I couldn't control, maybe it was that certain bully. I had a very hard to time teaching this breed, I would say 8/10. I own a Presa/Pitbull female now and training has been super easy.

Actually the name originates from where the dog came from. It was originally a mix of the English Terrier and the English Bull Dog and was originally called the Bull and Terrier. The bull terrier that we know now also has Dalmatian and possibly Greyhound blood in them. Originally bred for Bull Baiting and Pit fighting (dogs vermin ect)

I have and have had Bull Terriers and as far as mine goes, he right about them getting along with people just fine but mine have not gotten along with other animals. Auggie gets along with our other dog and the cat but he knows them now. It was a struggle at first. It's the first 'contact' with another animal that has been his (and their , problem.

This video is 100% accurate! My 4 month old Bully absolutely loves everyone especially kids. If he hears kids playing even a few houses down he will try to pull me toward them like a runaway train. At the park when he sees kids he will go straight for them over other dogs and adults. Just socialize them as a puppy by bringing them around every animal and human you can along with get your puppy from a reputable breeder or rescue. Hell my boy has shown 0% aggression towards any living animal.. .

All types of dog have a special place in all our hearts they are just like us all your best friend Ive owned a few breeds and they where all special I know how to raise a demon or saint of a dog all dogs need guidence the dog reflects the owner when you take the pup from its mom its your respnsibility to take care of that dog as the mother would theyre not a thing like your car or house

My bull terrier was the most wonderful companion, perfect with children,cats and was mostly OK with bitches but would fight other dogs, he was a rescue dog that had been abused and had at least 5 homes before I took him. amazing pet that I couldn't recommend enough.

we used to have a bull terrier until we gave him away. The funniest thing having him with me on the subway was that some of the "local gangsta thugs" who make noise and think their so dangerous on the train suddently keep their mouth shut and push them selfs in to the wall as far away they can from my dog. They got scared by his looks when he acctually was a soft sweetheart xD

EBT's are not animal aggressive. They are extremely patient and tolerant of other dogs. Even other dogs, who are spoiling for a fight, they will ignore them for ages.

English Bulls were never "bred for ratting" . Dogfighting in England was banned a long time before Bull Fighting, and the English Bull Terrier was the product of scaling down the "Dog fighting Dogs," (generally Mastiff types) Into a smaller type, With the stocky build of a terrier, but the powerful jaws of a Mastiff, specifically to bite onto the muzzle of a Bull, and hold on The big, sharklike muzzle, enabled the dog to hold it's bite down, but still be able to breath.

Ever since the Kennel Club established the Breed Standard, they have been breeding the aggression out of them. That doesn't mean they never get aggressive, just that they are very slow to anger, generally good natured, and intelligent. Staffies, who are a far more prolific breed, are far more aggressive, especially with other dogs. EBT's are pretty placid, by nature, and placid isn't an adjective you would use to describe a Staffy.

The modern EBT is stockier and more compact than the old, Victorian type. And if by "Diluted it's working ability" (They were originally developed to fight Bulls) You mean bred a lot of the aggression out of them, then yes, you are right. A Bandog, is a type of cross, usually a Mastiff type, but smaller, and shorter in the leg, quite often a Mastiff / Bull Terrier cross, bred by Gamekeepers, to catch Poachers. More of a type, than an actual breed, similar in size to the Bull Mastiff.

A lot of that short fuse aggression has been bred out of the EBT, and they will just stand there, wagging their tails, good naturedly, while another dog tries to bait them into a fight, for five or ten minutes, if the aggressor doesn't get bored and give up, then it is in real danger, because when they decide to go, they really do fucking go, that gladiator is still in the build, and the temperament of the breed, and they are formidable and fearless, when they kick off.

The dogs known as 'bull and terriers' were used as fighting dogs,they were more like modern day staffies, in 1850 the breeds creator selectively choose and mixed this type of dog with other breeds to get a dog that looks like the dogs we know today as bull terriers.

mallowman That is not true, they were bred mostly from old white english bull dogs mixed with white terriers to gain strenght of the bull dog and agility of the terrier. That is why most of EBT are white but white colour brought serious health problems, so today we also can see other colours such as red, brindled (which is prefered if the dog is not white) or tricolour (which I personaly prefer)

I love their walk... (1:25). It's not the elegant dance of an Afghan, is it? :) They gotta accommodate that impressive chest! I love everything about these dogs. And one day I WILL have one, dammit! I have one, a brindle tricolor named Buddy that has won several Best of breed. I believe they are so very HANDSOME. Buddy is extremely mild mannered and has refused to fight other dogs on several occasions. Oddly enough the females are often more aggressive than the males and the females often have difficulty with Birthing. Buddy is great with all animals and I trust him to stand guard around the baby. Write me for pictures and possible stud service except for fighting.

my girl is more like a cat. she does whatever the fuck she wants but my boy dog is highly trainable. I have never even tried to train him because he wants to be obedient. he follows me around everywhere i go and is as perfect as can be
