The right volume for wing foiling

What’s up guys? Welcome back to another Appletree Surfboard’s Tech talk video. My name is Wieger, co-founder of Appletree Surfboards and today we are going to talk about how to choose the right volume for wing foiling.
Now this is a slightly controversial one and everyone has their own opinion, so this is just our opinion about choosing the right wing board for you. I think it’s a good starting point. So hear us out.

Regarding the winger’s weight, Should I take into consideration the weight of wetsuit and foil as well? If so, should we add around 5kg? Thx

yes, I would definitely consider the extra weight.

Hi i am 200 lbs how low would go at that weight?

Hi! highly dependant on skill and wind strength. you can go as low as 35L if you want. actually the lower you go, the easier the board is to control underwater, but the harder it is to get to the surface. many techniques out there to start a sinker. We might need to do a video on that soon :)

Have seen Appletree boards at local launch…after tried Armstrong 70 L, looked at F-one Rocket-S 70 L and Steyen board 70 L these are all productions but AT boards can be customised..…I weigh 70 kg..62 yo intermediate..Free style ie: jumping Flaka etc…looking for a board 4’11” and under but still floats me (wetsuit & wing & Armstrong 1225) which exact volume & board do you recommend? Ciao..

Hi, you will probably be best off with a 83L slice, or a 75L Skipper wing. I usually advise to go a bit higher in volume with a floaer style board, but the skippers are really good for early launch so they feel like a board with more volume. It's longer than 4'11. but the added lengh really helps the low end of the board! hope that works, if you want more info, shoot us an email!
