Because he wasn’t as attached to the elites, but at the end he was imposed by a European power that didn’t recognized the existing Mexican president (who was of indigenous origin by the way). The French sent him to do something that was impossible

If memory serves, Maximiliano issued pardons for almost everyone who would’ve been executed by the black decree. He also offered Juarez the position of PM and adopted Iturbide’s grandchildren as heirs.

Maxl did not support Napoleon III's looting of the country and he resisted the Pope's religious bigotry. (I am a Catholic but Pius IX was not a good Pope.) And Juarez himself was technically an illegal ruler by the Constitutional terms of his office. I think Mexico would have been a happier nation today if Juarez and the Supreme Court had cut a deal with Maxl (who was a Habsburg, not French) to create a constitutional-monarchy. Or just to let Maxl go home in peace.

It started out as republic then Maximilian turned it into an empire. Iterbide may have crowned himself emperor but neither the assembly who had more power than him and other nations recognized him as a monarch. He was just a dictator.

Agustín de Iturbide was born in México (Nueva España) he was not considered Spanish, he was considered Creole because his parents were spanish

The conspiracy against Iturbide was created by the first US ambassador to Mexico named Joel R. Poinsett who encouraged the Masonic Lodges of the Yorkino Rite to overthrow him and establish a puppet republic faithful to US interests, including the sale of Texas. There are many documents about it. Iturbide was so admired by the general population that even years later, when he was shot, his funeral procession was escorted throughout the republic to the cathedral of Mexico City, where he still rests. / La conspiración en contra de Iturbide fue creada por el primer embajador de EE.UU en México que se llamaba Joel R. Fun fact: The only ones benefitting form independence was the upper class who wanted to have access to power structures but the whole nobility thing stopped them from. Mexico went from being ruled by nobles designated by the Emperor to a republic of presidents (who did nothing but enlarge their pockets in theit 4-6 year terms) elected by 38 voters.

The Declaration of Independence of the Mexican empire was the official name of the document that declared Mexican independence from Spain. The Second Mexican Empire was in the 1860’s, that’s indeed two empires (kingdoms).

It was a viceroyalty and Mexican indigenous leaders became nobility... also Mexico itself the capital was known as the Kingdom of Mexico there where two kingdoms in the viceroyalty of New Spain, Kingdom of Mexico and the Kingdom of Guatemala....Although I know this channel is not the best in history always watch the videos because one has to be informed in all sources. This video is full of wrong facts and information. When you read about the modern and progressive policies of Emperor Maximillian, it's a shame the Mexicans were not able to understand (lack of education at the time) and properly support his regime, which had nothing to do with the previous Spanish colonial control and the short-lived and flimsy First Empire (Iturbide's), both of which proved to be very poor administrators of their territories. Sadly, most of the resistance he faced were from the same groups of Royalists and Clerics that offered him the position in the first place, believing he would re-instate the harsh conservative antics of the colonial government. Mexico would probably be in a much better position these days, one that would've attempted to match the rapid expansion and progress of the United States and serve as a model of social and political development for their neighbors in Central and South America. Yours is an excellent presentation of the history of Mexico's modern Empires, well done!

Once the Territories became states, they had sovereign rights the people became citizens of the respective states. Mexico is an entirely separate country. There is no Dual Citizenship agreement between Mexico and the United States . . . so, while Mexicans have history and tradition going back to the 1500's, they are either a citizen of Mexico, or one of the United States. With citizenship come rights and obligations. Rights include political office and the vote, protection of law. Obligations are taxes, obeying the laws, and military service. So, your comment is vague, like arguing with a drunk . . . it is baseless and cannot be argued. What amazes me is that Columbus found the islands, but missed the continental mass by one week of sailing West. That was found later. Twenty or thirty years later, the Panama isthmus revealed a shortcut to the Pacific, and the masses of Spaniards, and then French, swarmed North to create the Mexican empires described in this video. It truly is amazing that the Europeans became wealthy, traveling to and fro, weeks on end on those small wooden sailing vessels . . . enough to populate and control the indigenous population with their armor, steel weapons, and horses . . . such was the disparity in technology and organization. I have a scholarly text, a history, published by the University of New Mexico. The cruelty of the Spaniards was inherited by their seven centuries under the Moors . . . Muslim methods of conquering incorporated into the acts of the conquistadors.

@@leonarddaneman810 Mexico recently started offering dual citizenship to the children of its citizens born in other countries. An agreement with the USA isn't necessary since the USA doesn't have a say in what goes on in other people's countries nor its immigration policy.

@@Venezolano410 Thank you for your response. Actually, under Mexico's constitution (not an expert by any means), they are far stricter than here in the U.S., at least what we enforce. As far as 'offering dual citizenship . . .,' please realize that 'children of its citizens' is the 'jus sanguinis' standard accepted by most nations, and other nations granting citizenship in these cases is an exception. The 'jus soli' principle is rarely accepted. Again, thank you, but not specific enough in your analysis.

A major detail was left out. The US instigated the independence of Spain’s colonies. Despite the colonies’ faults, loyalty to the crown was strong. Now in Latin America we have jokes/stereotypes about indigenous people and how they were more loyal to the crown than white skinned people. And the the one for white skinned people(minority) is that they see themselves more Aztec than the actual brown people do😂- this were the people who advocated for independence with US support.

That's because the Spanish crown and indigenous people had come to an agreement with the encomienda laws that formally guarantee certain laws , however once independence happen those agreements became nule and this off course was detrimental to indigenous people after independence as described in Argentina and other part of the Americas

This depiction is highly biased. They speak as of the Mexican people had barely any decision-making power and as of anything that happened was because of the US or Europe's liking. The return of the government in Maximiliano's empire was predominantly mexican-led. There was no mention of the Reforma War, of Benito Juárez or any other influence of Mexican politics on these results. The US of course helped, but they did not fight the war for us. I just think this kind of perspective should be thought of when scripting the videos.

The setting up of a second Empire was not for all the Mexicans to decide, as in a democratic institution, but by a powerful and influential group of royalists that included high ranking military officers, nobility, and political leaders. Not "all" the Mexicans, and certainly very few of the lower classes, whom, I'm sure, couldn't care less because their situation hardly changed since the colonial times. All they got to do was duck the incoming barrage of bullets from confronting forces and firing squads until the end of the Revolution in 1920!!

FYI Mexico invented the automatic cannon and rifle, Google it. Also people already voted, that's how the previous president to Juárez had gotten there, and that's how Juárez became the Governor of the state of Oaxaca. Perhaps read history before making a historic remark, regardless of how bigotted and superior you may want to sound.

@@stevephlyer unfortunately, most Mexicans cared, and a lot. It was the lower classes who were dy1ing in droves during the war. It was their cities being sieged and their families going hungry during every hard-fought battle. It was them who from the windows resisted the invading armies, and it was their daughters and sons who perished in every battle lost. They had free will, enough to decide their own future. My comment rested on the fact that they portray these events as "the US getting mexico out of a pickle" when what they did was support the fight that was already there. They never consider the weight of our own people when speaking of these events. The second empire was not everyone's decision, and perhaps the lower classes didn't have a say, but in kicking them out they did. Also so did we when the revolution happened.
