A man who many considered by many to be a future main event star, Velveteen Dream was signed by WWE when he was just 20 years old and featured in many high profile NXT matches. However, just five years after his signing, he was released by the company following a scandal in April 2020. This is The Rise And Fall Of Velveteen Dream.

Absolute shame. He had EVERYTHING, promos, character, wrestling. Genuinely he ticked all the boxes. But here we are. Stuff happened and if it’s true then he brought the release on himself and if it’s false then one of the most promising stars for the next 15 years just got their chance to make MILLIONS taken away from them. EDIT: Ross was outstanding on this episode. Completely respect

WWE was clearly under pressure and thought it wasn't worth the heat so they fired him. I know I'm biased because I loved the character, but no criminal charge was made. And it really reminds me of how Enzo was released after his allegations, which were later proven false. That is definitely a huge lost for the wrestling industry imo
@Torthrodhel
@Torthrodhel 2 жыл бұрын
Enzo's were proven false? I hadn't heard that. He made himself sound so guilty with that rap. Guess he was just very, incredibly stupid about how he reacted to it then. Good to learn. Don't automatically think that a lack of criminal charge means innocence. There are many ways for that not to coincide. But at the same time, on the other hand you do make a good point about how corporate WWE is. It does sound like the kind of thing they might want to find any excuse to distance themselves from, regardless of what happened. Ugh. Difficult to know what to think.

Enzo was on his way to being fired regardless, the allegation was the final straw. Also Enzo still has a career in wrestling. His allegation was proven innocent, and he got to move on. It hasn't ruined his career. The vast majority of allegations turn out to be true, yet conviction rates for allegations are low. It is actually very difficult to get a criminal conviction in court for sex crimes. False accusations really don't happen very often.

If I'm honest I'm not surprised people tried to take down a black man playing gender non conforming character. It's possible the accusations are real but I'm willing to bet a lot of people would make up stuff to take someone like him down.

1) He was accused of being sexually inappropriate with the children he was interacting with online, and of trying to groom a young indie wrestler. 2) These were not formal, legal accusations. There was no court case, no charges. Like many of the Speaking Out situations, this was basically rumors backed with a handful of screenshots of texts. Could he have thought he was talking to a college student when he asked what school the child he was interacting with went to? Could the inappropriate photos have been downloaded off GRINDR instead of being sent directly by Dream? Who knows. 3) WWE conducted an “investigation,” the police were not involved because no formal charges were brought. WWE did not find enough evidence of wrongdoing to release him. Same thing with allegations against Matt Riddle and several others… of the whole movement, WWE was the promotion that sided with the talent the most and said, as many of you are, “not enough evidence.” 4) According to Clark, VD was going to come back and work in a mask after the allegations, and not speak. Even Dream seemed uncomfortable that WWE thought he was “innocent” but was going to gimmick it. 5) he missed a lot more TV due to backstage problems and injuries before he was finally let go.

I find it funny how since he's been fired, you don't hear about any investigations. It really hate how easily it is for allegations to ruin someone's life even when they are never investigated. Giving someone power over another like this is quite terrible. If he did anything of such, he should be punished, but if he really did, he would at the very least have at least one court hearing; nothing of the sort has come out. Another talent Metooed wrongly it would seem. Shout out to Johnny Deep.

I never believed those allegations against Dream because of how freely the accusers brought it up but never tried to get him arrested or even sue him. What he was alleged of doing was a crime but not charges have ever be filed. Dream was found guilty in the court of public opinion but never in a court of law. WWE didn't want to let him go but had because the fans wouldn't let it go. They canceled Dream.
