New Canucks Collection box!: 🔥 therthcompany.com/collections/all Does Pettersson have the potential to be the most complete player in NHL history?
@goodeye6373
@goodeye6373 10 ай бұрын
When I think of complete I think of players like the Big E. Dominate all aspects. Vancouver is my team and he is my favorite player and think he is really good. Complete no. The Mess was a very complete forward. And a mix of nastiness. Not unless he gaines 20-25 pounds and becomes a power forward. Good enough to become the best Canuck ever.

Pettersson is a gifted player. To be a complete player... he needs to be in the 190-205lbs range. He definitely could be the next Federov type of player but fed was 6'2 and 207lbs. So not only could he take a hit... he could dish them out if he had to. Crosby is 200lbs... McK is 200lbs... most of the top 10 are 190+.

My home team was on the receiving end in the SHL playoff finals the year before he went to the NHL. It was one of those times where your team got scored on and there was nothing to say. No bad calls, nothing obviously wrong with the defense or bad luck. He did his thing and we just went "Yeah. OK. At least he won't be around next year.". Now don't get me wrong, Växjö has continued to be a dominant club ever since, but that final series he just made it feel completely hopeless. Good to see he's finding his ways again, always enjoy seeing highlights from overseas when the players we remember seeing here make it big :)

As a Canuck fan, he's a rare bright spot. Was always decent, but he was lowkey labeled "difficult to coach" in his early years. The best part? One of our later round picks, Defenseman Elias Pettersson, is quickly climbing our prospect list and soon we should see two skilled Elias Pettersson's on Vancouver ice soon!

From Vancouver and never once heard pettey is hard to coach or anything other than a good dude. The best part will be if he can help make us a competitive team NOT having two players with the same name play… no one cares about that sh*t. You don’t represent how fans feel w those comments.

Speaking of Allsvenskan, Kenny Jönsson was voted the best defender of the tournament in the 2006 Olympics which was during his second season in Allsvenskan after returning to his childhood club Rögle after playing in the NHL for 10 years (and suffering several concussions). In European sports the club identity is very different from North America. The idea of a kid moving across the country to play sports when they switch age brackets is not the standard even if it sometimes happen. In Sweden this especially happen when kids enroll in senior high school at age 16. Leagues are also different as they are organised on the national level and there is a clear hierarchy where you have the first divison (Like SHL for hockey) and each year the worst teams in the league are moved down to the second tier while the best of the second tier are promoted. Elias Pettersson is from Ånge which is a tiny town outside Sundsvall so at age 16 he moved from Ånge to Sundsvall to play in Timrå. If you look at elite prospects you also see that he each year played in multiple teams belonging to Timrå IK where U16 mean up to 16, J18 is up to 18 years old etc. Swedish clubs tend to do this as a part of the career development of talents both to strengthen the team and because the deal with NHL allow Swedish players to move to America even if under contract but the Swedish club is paid a fee for talent development and it is also common that Swedish players who either fail in NHL or get older decide to move back to the club from their home city. A side effect of this system is that sometimes a huge talent end up playing in Allsvenskan because he played for at the junior level was in the second tier at the time of his development. Sometimes kids move directly from Allsvenskan and in other cases they do like Elias who left Timrå to Join Växjö for another year of development before moving to the NHL. A big difference between American development leagues and Allsvenskan is that the constant pressure of moving up and down in the league system mean that all clubs need to compete all the time so clubs got no space for rebuilds and the way ice hockey is played in SHL and Allsvenskan is very similar even if the quality of players is lower in Allsvenskan with top tier clubs in Allsvenskan being quite equivalent to bottom tier clubs in SHL.

Love the goldeneye music, absolute burner there. This video aged really well. Currently #2 in league scoring with 21 points with 3 other canucks right behind him in the top 15. I really enjoyed your analysis, I think the only point I'd like to add is how much he lifts his team up. His hard working attitude and willingness to deliver hits and go into the danger areas of the ice and battle it out isn't just a sign of the completeness of his game, but the depths he's willing to go to win. He leads by example and in doing so lifts up everyone around him. The grinders look at him and think "I better get out there and pound ice" when they see their most elite scoring forward grinder harder than them on defense. It's remarkable, truly a new prototype for elite franchise players going forward.

And he's just shy of 200 lbs this year. We saw a few nasty Petey hits last season, and I would expect more this year given his added size. 50 goals, 65 assists, back-checking beast, league lead in SHGs, and third on the team for hits. McDavid is a fast skater, a great puck handler, an awesome setup guy, and a wicked goal scorer... But Petey's tool kit is much deeper than that.

I'm a VANfan but I'd love to see him go to AZ. That team is gonna set the world on fire in a few years. Embrazed the thing that Aquilini detests - a proper rebuild. Hate that management in VAN just couldn't take the opportunity to build a winner. Now the window has closed yet again. Lord Stanley is gonna keep avoiding us for many years to come. But the owner is the owner and he will keep on getting mediocre results if he does not change his ways. I really hope Elias leaves to give the organization a wake up call - and capspace. I'd love to see him on a winning team, he deserves it since he is generational. On almost any other team that would be (more) obvious.

Look at Kuzmenko. Same goals as Pettersson, and he looks good. A great pair. Now imagine if the team psychologist can get Boeser's mojo going again! Miller had an off year, but finished strong. MIchayev was one of the fastest players even with an injury, so imagine having him healthy all this next year. Got a huge boost in defensive capability, and just added a good goalie to the mix. Why ask if Pettersson's talent will be "wasted" here? I think the team will be extremely fun to watch, and they have not looked this good (potentially) in over a decade! If you want to go by stats alone, then last year Boston wins the cup hands down. So tell me, how did that work out? Forget stats for Vancouver. If they gel together really good this year, they will make the playoffs and be quite good.

As a Swede, Allsvenskan is pronounced: All (like the 'all' in B-all-oon) Svensk (as you would pronounce it) An (like the 'un' in cinnamon 'bun) Pardon for the weird references. Your first try at 4:52 is pretty damn near but the emphasis on the three syllables are the same All-Svensk-an (sounds more like All-Svens-kan in swedish speech). “Generational talent/player” is a phrase that gets thrown around all the time, especially with younger fans. Petterson is an excellent young forward, even a star player, but a point per game forward isn’t a generational player. @@Paintba11er1 Bro what? Saying Carson Soucy "blows" is at best an exaggeration. He's a very solid defensive defenseman with the tools to become either a competent 2nd pairing stalwart or a solid partner for Hughes, depending on how he does on the right side. Sure he's not good at moving the puck, but that's not what the Canucks signed him for.

@@RobTalksHockey ahh got it so it was more of a specific comment on just the 1st couple months of the season vs the season itself?

@@zTeaTheCoffee idk man I watched him every game for 2 years and what sticks out are him getting stripped when he tried to handle the puck for any period of time while trying to clear it and then penalties in the worst possible moments. \ I mean he was sometimes scratched as our 3rd pairing D. Its wild to me to be this excited to have him as a "2nd pairing stalwart" or god forbid your starting RD. But I absolutely wish you the best of luck with him (except for against the kraken)

He really is a very confusing player. I thought he would be much better by now but im happy where he is at the same time even though he hasn't progressed as much as I thought he would. Sometimes he's weak on his skates, sometimes he's strong. He is a very intelligent player nonetheless but can disappear at times. It's weird.

Bambi40 is constantly getting knocked to the ice. It's embarrassing. And the puck giveaways are too frequent.

@@glennhankins6927 He can cut down the giveaways a bit if he stops with the stupid passes across the blue line in the offensive zone but I really don't know which side of him is going to show up more often this season. I want him in Vancouver but at the same time I think we can get something more consistent for him in a trade. Maybe a deal for a better goalie would be a good idea because I hate Demko. The Canucks have just put themselves in a bad spot for the last few seasons. Maybe things will get better, but I doubt it. The Canucks drive me mental.

There's a team out east that's looking to throw some cash around, who recently picked up another Franchise Center, who might pick up Pettersson.

"The most complete player in NHL history" is ridiculous hyperbole. His offensive game isn't as good as Crosby, nor is his defensive game. He's freaking awesome, but c'mon.
