whose here after her US Open 2022 dirst round lost? I love Emma and I think this is a good way to start the rebuild. She wouldn't be seeded so high in competitions and might even need to go through qualifiers for some events. All this gives her more time to adapt to the high level of tennis progressively unlike this year. It is like going for the A levels without going through junior college. It has to be done step by step and now she can with a lower rank after losing 2000 points

Why 'should have'? Emma mauled her just like she did everyone else. 6-4, 6-3 is not exactly close. During the 9 matches up to the final, Emma scored 27 aces against only 14 double faults, put 77% of her first serves in and won 73% of them, won 57% of her second serves, had break points in 33 out of 48 return games in which she won 277 points, and lost only 5 service games. She certainly deserved to win the final just as much as anyone has ever done.

@@BenjWarrant Specifically, who did Emma play in the tournament prior to the final? And she mauled who? I would say Leylah "merited" the championship based on her track record. Her path to the final was much more an achievement given who she played and defeated. Emma played no one in the top 10, whereas Leylah played three of the top 5. Had she won the tournament, it would have been a true "David vs Goliath" story. Her game vs Emma would have been a better test if Emma had a similar path to the final. Leylah's matches against the girls in the top 5 were consecutive and each went three sets, and left her understandibly spent for the final. Emma won the final, no disputing that. Put into perspective, she had an easier path and benefitted from how the draw unfolded. Time will tell how successful a career she will have. I wish her the best and hope the ridiculous pressure she is enduring does not impact her negatively.
