I have to admit that The Netherland is awesome, when i was a teenager, i was proud that having a grand father from the Dutch blood, but i also angry to know that my country was colonialized by them for such times, but now as i am growing my age, 48 years old, nog ik ben trots voor mijn nederlandse bloed and i am also proud as an Indonesian. greeting from me here in Bandung, Indonesia.

Judging by the reactions there is no interest from other countries. Is it disbelief or unwillingness to accept that this small country had so much power, not to mention with all its invention from Stock exchange in the 17 century to the ASML chip machine today, so much influence on the further developmend of man?🤬

They all know. Even Warren Buffet refers often to the first Stock exchange crash ever. The Tulip bulb market Bubble. The Netherlands ended the dark ages.

@@MarkGeelenthats not true the dark ages ended with the Italian Renaissance. However the Enlightenment and modern age started in the Netherlands.

Van Oldenbarneveldt pushed for the VOC to take the war with Spain and Portugal to their Asian presence. Shareholders were from all over the country, lots of ordinary people too. Those people couldn't wait for ROI and the VOC saw more opportunity and wanted to reinvest the profits rather than pay dividends. Hence the stock exchange, that allowed the rich to buy the stock of a growing company from the very ordinary shareholders and wait the 31 years for the first dividends paid, in 1633. It was still a hell of journey to Asia though, often taking over a year, one way. The VOC only had about 150 ships sailing, the rest of the over 15000 ships did the much quicker, much safer, fare more frequent European bulk trade. The economic importance of the VOC is hugely overestimated.

I think the republic of the seven united Netherlands isn't going to catch on as a title. The Netherlands didn't exist as a country and Holland was the dominant province, so dominant they divided it in north and south later on. And since in those days Holland was the most used term and we can't decide how other countries name our country. Plus the fact that this documentary was made in Japan and the Japanese word for the Netherlands is Orlande. I think they chose the right name, even if it's not the united province of the Netherlands.
