@xai012 жыл бұрын
@pigstuck The thing with the Corridor fight is that it was lightsaber duel, not really a Jedi duel. The force isn't really accounted for, they just aimed to make realistic lightsabers. In an advanced force user fight there would be the flashiness that comes with being a space wizard (thing the original trilogy lacks), but the choreography should be really tight and calculated to show the characters are incredibly skilled and not just blindly swinging in front of their faces (thing a lot of fights in the prequels lack). That sadly leaves the only realistic force user fights to animated series happening on the sidelines instead of the main movies. Something that seems likely to remain unchanged as the current team working on the sequels can't even be bothered to plan and execute a decent choreography.

I'd say the main reason these fights look so bad is because the actors don't want to *actually* hit each other with their prop weapons, but also because of reshoots where they pick and choose the best takes out of several. Still, it never hurts to make them more believable, even if the moves are risky. The most annoying thing here is that Rey's movements are actually pretty believable. She could've done a few more takes, but given what's established it honestly feels alright. It's the fact that the guards, which there are only six of, take turns, the director seemingly phoned it in, one of them just shoots his friend with no real prompting, none of them advance, or step back, or dodge, or aim, or whatever. It's compounding the issues that most of the sequel fights had, all at once and to their greatest extreme. Not enough takes, awful director, less than zero direction for vfx guys, it hurts, especially knowing how excited the actors were for it and how much Ridley and Driver actually practiced for the first movie and how little of their effort paid off.

I blame most of episode 9’s issues on Rian Johnson. In episode 7 it was very much implied/guaranteed that Snoke was gonna be the big bad (he even had the Palpatine hologram of his head like come on) of the trilogy. Rey was theorised to be a Palpatine on day 1 of the movie and that may or may not have been JJ’s plan from the beginning. Phasma might have been planned to last until Episode 9 (or could have really always just been just Boba Fett 2 who dies in the sequel). Then came Rian Johnson, that dickhead, and went and ruined absolutely everything that JJ was and may have been planning, out of seemingly pure spite and/or ego and/or stupidity: - He killed Snoke - He killed _and_ ruined Luke - He ruined any potential build-up for Rey’s origin - He wrote the 2 absolute worst characters in fiction - He ruined Hux - He killed Phasma and Finn’s character arc (maybe Phasma was always supposed to die in 8, but I’m gonna put it on the list of Rian’s crimes anyway because he deserves no benefit of the doubt) With all of that, Rian left JJ with barely anything to work with, like when your little brother obliterates your biggest and most expensive LEGO set and then comes to you, hands the desecrated corpse of your LEGO over and says “please fix it”. Rian Johnson, with is incredibly awful decisions for Episode 8, forced JJ Abrams’ hand to make most of Episode 9 the way it is. Now whether or not Episode 9 would have been better with Snoke and most of the other characters (Luke in particular) alive is unknown sadly. But I think we should cut JJ Abrams some slack because Rian Johnson ruined the whole thing out of spite because he could only direct 1 movie. JJ Abrams still made some bafflingly awful decisions though don’t get me wrong, like killing Ben, which robbed him of his punishment and fully fledged redemption arc
@AlsoAStranger Жыл бұрын
@@jonathan45564 Yeah, the fact that the trilogy was split between two directors is a recipe for disaster (tbh even in Marvel when they have two or more directors for one character's movies it becomes silly. Just compare how James Gunn always directed GoG when... idk Thor got different directors) Rian is much at blame. No denying that. However, J.J. just wasn't good for Star Wars either. He got hired for the new trilogy and what was his best idea? "Idk i'm just gonna do what was already done in the past" And he did it badly too. TFA might look ok at first, but if you delve into it there's a lot wrong with it. And btw, the Palpatine thing? Yeah J.J. never planned for it. Daisy said it in an interview that AS OF THE FILMING OF TROS she did not know who her parents or grandparents were. She said at first it was thought about her being a Kenobi, then it actually went to her being a nobody, and finally a Palpatine. But while filming she had no idea who she was. A series of movies is better built by one director only as a director is who injects the vision of the film and story. It's better for consistency and tone. Idk why they just couldn't stick with one director. And I don't know who decided Rian or J.J. were good candidates

The literal only way to make this whole thing cannon, and still make it not ruin the whole franchise, is to make it so Rey is telling this as an old lady to Ben Solo's children, while they look at her and say "But how come Dad is here right now?" and then the camera pans to Kylo and he says "I think it's time for bed." and Rey just smiles to Kylo as she lifts his child up and gives it back to him. An old lady telling a bedtime story. Then you can make the real sequel trilogy.

Ben killing the Knights of Ren was the most Sith thing he could've done. He grew up with them and made ZERO effort to turn them to his side or dismember them and try to continue reasoning with them the way Vader made EVERY EFFORT in the original trilogy not to kill Leia and Luke. I rewatched the original Trilogy and realized how extremely lenient he was to Luke and Leia that made me feel like the guy was a good guy, not a nice guy, but secretly a good guy. (At least depicted as such in the movies, don't come at me with expanded lore.)
@AlsoAStranger Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Vader never really wanted to kill his children, despite anakin being "long gone"
@teramalik726010 ай бұрын
Vader literally tortured Leia to get the location of the rebel base. And he also tried and almost succeeded to kill Luke, if Han had not come to his rescue in the last second. Nothing lenient about it. But that was the first movie, when it was not even yet decided that Luke, Leia and Vader are family. And from there on, if Vader was lenient towards Leia and Luke, that was just because he wanted something from them.
@AlsoAStranger10 ай бұрын
@@teramalik7260 Vader did not know that Luke and Leia were his children in the first movie (also due to, as you said, it not being yet decided) He comes to know that Luke is his son after ANH, and finds out Leia is his daughter in ROTJ So it makes sense that he is ok with causing harm to them both He does still harm his children to some degree in the next movies, but he never went to the lengths of killing or wanting to kill them, with the events in Cloud City being the proof of it Even if keeping them alive was to get something from them, he never would have gone so far as to end them He may not have been a good father, but he was still a father and he realized that. That's the good that Luke saw in him

The Knights of Ren shouldn't even have been a thing, since they didn't use them for anything relevant anyway. Suddenly giving them lines at the climax of the 3rd movie would have been as weird as them not having any lines at all, because we didn't know anything about them. And at that point it would have been to late to get to know them. We had no reason to care what happened to them, they were just intimidating extras. We didn't even get a facial expression. Across 3 movies. And these are supposed to be like family to the main antagonist of the trilogy. What a joke. And no, even if Sheev was "behind it all" he can't be the main antagonist of the trilogy, since he only apears in one movie. Kylo is the bad guy for 2 and a half movies.

I think in theory it could work here as a sort of flex. Ben is a Force user, which means he can sense when things are going to happen before they actually do. This is the entire reason behind Jedi and Sith having the universal ability to deflect blaster fire with a lightsaber accurately and repeatedly. It wouldn’t be too hard for one to decide “heh, this loser’s gonna swing right here, so I’ll style on him” and strike that pose a split second before the weapon hits just because they can. However it clearly wasn’t choreographed that way and as a result it looks goofy as hell.

I don't think he even has his lightsaber ignited at this point. I am not trying to excuse the movie but I always see this argument for a lot of other media too. Sometimes, especially when handling long weapons, multiple people attacking one target can be problematic, as there’s plenty of chances to hit your allies in the process. Also, when multiple people all fight each other, the situation can get very confusing and it’s hard to actually get what’s happening. Not saying that is always the case, but it’s a possibility. Also, sometimes, assessing the target by watching them fight one idiot who decided to rush, can be beneficial.
