I get so enraged by this. First I am a Moor, I was born in the city of Fez Morocco (we don't actually wear the hats). My lineage is French Moroccan. My Father was Muslim, my Mother was Jewish. I was raised with both. The history between Morocco and the US is amazing. Morocco supported the revolutionary war. Morocco was one of the first nations to recognize the US as its own independent country. This isn't talking about actual Moors. They have no idea of the actual history of Morocco and the United States. The arguments they put forth are not based in law, or history. The great misunderstanding of laws, and history is overwhelming. The other thing is that the majority of Africans were not Muslim. I often have met some of these groups, they are always shocked to learn I'm a actual Moor. I have hazel eyes, brown hair, and am light skinned. I can trace my lineage back for hundreds of years in Morocco. The building my Great Great Great Grandfather lived in is my Uncles home. They usually are shocked because most people classify me as white. When I meet other Moroccans around the world they take one look and know I'm from Fez. They have many people with my same eyes and complexion. I was raised to have pride in where I came from. I know my roots. It is quite sad that these people have been led down the false path. I wish they were given a real education into the past. I do pay taxes, follow the law, and currently live in California with my Life Partner and two Sons. I simply pray for them to be educated in the actual laws, and history. Also to stop calling themselves something that has nothing to do with the vast majority of them ...

Informatiom from the state dept: Morocco is the United States' oldest ally, with a relationship that dates back to 1777: Sultan Mohammed III of Morocco allowed American ships to access Moroccan ports, one of the first countries to recognize the United States' independence.

The origins of this identity were because of oppression. Noble Drew Ali attempted to use the identity of the Moors to take advantage of the Moroccan-American treaty of peace and friendship which gave Moroccans diplomatic immunity in the US per se. He also tried to use his own religion which he associated with Islam because Islam was a recognized religion and he could take advantage of the separation of church and state. Their is historical record of slaves identifying as Moors and gaining their freedom from this identity (they may have been actually Moors because their is record of moorish slaves that came over through Louisiana with the Spanish)

Moors was an exonym used by the Spanish about various Berber and Arab peoples that conquered the Iberian Peninsula in the 7th-8th centuries. Ok a couple more reasons why this doesn’t make sense: 1) black Americans’ DNA traces back to sub-Saharan, mostly west Africa. Moors were North African. The Sahara creates an extreme barrier that makes subsaharan Africans and North Africans distinct and unrelated. North Africans are more related to southern Europeans and people of the Middle East than subsaharan Africans. So to call themselves moors doesn’t make sense genetically. 2) if there was a moorish empire in americas before European colonization, then the native populations would’ve had exposure to old world diseases, namely smallpox, and had immunity when Europeans came over. There would not have been the millions that died from smallpox. Either that or it was the moors that brought smallpox and killed millions of native Americans. If they want that on their record, they are welcome to it.
