I love the interaction with the Fallen (Now Risen) with the Lion. It's surprisingly emotional for both sides, in a stoic sort of way. The fact some Astartes are almost brought to tears because they realize they were fighting each other for nothing hit home for me. I'm still reading the book, but I love this so far. I love seeing the Lion actually growing as a Character and becoming a wise leader.

I’m thinking the Primarch that the Emporer told about chaos because “he proved incorruptible from the start” was Johnson. He was literally born on a chaos dominated world and liberated it with old power suits and regular guardsman.

But think about it. The loyalist fallen must be some of the most loyal dark angels. They lasted 10,000 years (I know warp magic may make it shorter for the marines) but being loyal after basically the entire Legion of dark angels turning their back on you and actively hunt you down, and yet you remain loyal. Being exposed to the traitors and the warp for all that time and they still remain loyal. I think the Lion sees this and that’s why he’s chosen the risen.

My only grip with this novel is that instead of the lion meeting azreal he meets dante at the end like i understand that dante would probably be closer but still not meeting any modern dark angels and just fallen for his first novel just feels weird. Though i did love the fallen story and how the lion is more cool headed.

gotta love how from Lion's PoV, he's fighting a battle for his life with Luther, he passes out somehow, wakes up, walks around a little, then suddenly regains his memory the second he sees one of the people that betrayed him and broke his homeworld. Then it takes him just two minutes to figure out what happened and forgive the guy. It would only seem like an hour or so had passed for him, not 10000 years.

Funny thing is after the war of the beast , the Imperial Fist is extinct and was resurrected by the rest of successor chapter by donating their geneseeds. Considering Black Templars are most numerous then it most likely they contributed the most so that makes the current Imperial Fist technically the successor chapter of the Black Templars.

When i read the the line that they shall no longer be known by the galaxy as fallen, but the risen sons. I genuinely shed a tear, to absolutely flip the coin of lion being merciless to now being a man of utter understanding and forgiveness is to me the greatest development in 40k probably to this day, Guilliman merely adapted to the 41mil but the Lion is a man changed anew ready to shed the labels such as imperium, legion, betrayal for him there is no grander prospect then truly embodying the whole Dark Angel aspect the protectors of the weak and downtrodden to the letter. Amazing read highly recommend wish we get a trilogy.

Also to this thought I wish to see who comes out next into the fray for the loyal Primarchs, we know know that they are all generals and fight well to their strategies, but adhering to the symbolisms given to us in the lore Guilliman is the Regent the mind behind the imperium anew, Lion quite simply but fittingly got a shield and he shall be the bulwark against which the dying of the light and all the foes of the imperium clash on and will break, to that end I wonder if we have a Mind to orchestrate and a shield to protect who shall be the weapon that cleaves the galaxy and rids the Imperium of its enemies. Id go for and settle for Jaghatai of old impassive and unrelenting, a being of cold focus and pure judgement, the galaxy is stagnating and I see no better man to push the boundaries then the lighting himself.

As even the honourable sons were thrown into the warp, it makes you question what whisked them away there - Could it perhaps have been the Emperor himself? Time has no limits in the warp, if he ascends to become a chaos god eventually, then his chaos god self can impact current events - such as whisking away noble sons of the lion and dissipating them amongst his own son's path

The non-Risen Fallen seem a lot like Night Lords, no unity some are Chaos pawns some are just renegades with no loyalty to any side and we will have to see if the ones flocking to Luther are the pro-Caliban that feel betrayed by their father but have no Chaos taint. A lot of good lore can come out of this mixed bag called the Fallen.

I have a really, really wanted a redemption arc in Warhammer for a long time. I really thought it would start with the Fulgrim clone leaving the Emperors Children into a civil war (and would still definitely buy that battle box, lol) In retrospect, it’s fitting that the Lion does it first!
