As the decade came to a close, the Playstation was an unstoppable juggernaut unlike anything seen in the world of video games. Each year brought with it millions of new playstation consoles as Sony shot for the stars to achieve a singular goal: 100 million consoles shipped.
Note: The audio for episode 4 had some corruption and the quality is lower than normal. I apologize and will rectify the issue going forward.
A line around 7:15 states that Metal Gear Solid never launched on another platform until MGS V. I meant that when a metal gear game came out, it was always on PlayStation first. Hopefully that clears up any confusion.

I was in college when Silent Hill hit in the Winter of 99. I had never heard of it when I saw it sitting on the shelf, but the game's box art and images intrigued me, and I was a huge fan of Konami at the time, so I picked it up. I didn't have classes until that afternoon, so I figured I would play a little to see what it was like. I became hooked from the moment that intro with Akira Yamaoka's score started playing. I never made it to class that day, because I was that engrossed by the game. Not even Resident Evil had given me a horror experience like it in a video game. Playing the original Silent Hill for the very first time ranks among some of my favorite gaming memories.

Damn you're older than me. I was 4 years old in 99 and I'm a Last of Us fan as that's my entry to horror survival horror genre. You had more experiences than me. I was in college when the PS4 came out and I got my PS5.

A video on the Dreamcast would be neat. How they had to publicly say that the Saturn was not Sega's future and then admitting defeat in only a few months after the PS2 was released.

I remember I was completely amazed by Metal Gear Solid when it hit to Playstation. It was one of the main reasons why I wanted the console for myself. I've never seen a video game with such a highly detailed cinematography and an extremely solid voice-acting before it. PS1 is my favorite video game console for reasons that I can actually explore such a wide and diverse library branching in many genres. It was a console that amazed me as much as it honestly terrified me when I was a kid with its Dual Shock vibration functions to my first foray at exploring the 3D gaming.

I still remember when I got my 1st PlayStation. Christmas 1998, I was 4. I remember playing the rugrats game. I forgot what game my dad bought for himself. I remember being obsessed with the demo cd that came with it, and I played Spyro over and over and my mom finally bought it for me. I beat the entire game 100% multiple times at the age of 5. I bought another PlayStation 1, 6 years ago and another copy of Spyro. Still my favorite video game at 27 years old. Besides Mario on the Nintendo systems

Metal Gear Solid had earlier entries than ground zeroes in 2014 on other systems. There was a remake of MGS on gamecube in 2004, a gameboy color game in 2000, and a few other re-releases too.

also MGS was released on PC and MGS 2 as well, that was even before gamecube but if consoles then gbc did recieve MGS game and also gamecube, long before 2014, so that info is not really accurate

IIRC the video says "launched on playstation". MGS1 was ported and remade. MGS2 was the first on xbox. Snake eater on 3ds. 4 remains the only playstation exclusive to this day. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Fun fact: You can play every canon metal gear game sans portable ops on the PS3!

@@DoubleDog I know what the title says and does not say Launched on playstation anywhere, not in title nor video, and it was very clear. Rewatched it, that part where u talk about MGS, and i quote "MGS was an intricate part of playstation branding" right after that quote "it wasnt until 2014 release of MGS V Ground Zeros that a metal gear game would launch on another platform other then playstation" . Is it possible that we are thinking about launch as soemthing different. U think of a launch as where did it first or simultaneously launched a game. As of i think of it launched and doesnt matter if it was a port a remake or a reimagination of a game that was released first on PS. I think im right this is the problem we face here, U consider only ORIGINAL releases of the game, but u know its not true, for PC even if port, or xbox, it was LAUNCHED on that platform, like few years later as on PS2 (talking about MGS2). First game was ported to PC, but it launched on PC. It was released i think 1998, for playstation and PC was yr. 2000, if the internet is correct. Later for PS3 as u said. So if it was released for 2 platforms, u cant consider it (PC) as a port (even though technically it was), it was a full on release for that platform meaning, also MGS2 even though a port, its a full original release for that platform (PC, xbox). Even though PS2 release was in 2001 PC version followed in 2003 and xbox version in depending on region 2002-03, so those were releases, officially so they did release on other platforms after the first released in 1998 for PS and in 2000 for PC. It was similar as example GTA IV or V was released, year or months after official console release. Still its a PC release and i think games are pretty much identical, so we cant talk about different games here. In other words. There was MGS released after the first PS release and that was 2 years after the initial release and on PC. The end. Ud be correct if ud choose a diff. year. Now re releases on xbox 360 i dont count as a release. It was years after the originals and nothing new. So i think Gamecube did get the last release, or was it what u mentioned 3DS version of snake eater ? Id bet on that. MGS version of GBC, very diff, game to the PC and PS. If u can read and understand what im trying to relay to u from my poor english, that would be great but if u have questions, or still arent convinced, well might agree on that we both disagree :). Again i think the problem lies in that we both think of term released something different. U think about the FIRST release. The OG, release of a game. I think about that if it was released at all and if it was the same game with very minor changes, like, u can change ress or config ur controls etc. So i find that a game if its released on a platform it WAS released on that platform, no matter how soon late or when, doesnt matter (so in a sense the xbox360 versions shouldnt matter also, i dont know). So if a game was released and its the exact same (except minor options native to a platform, like controls, res, etc.) but everything is intact. Its a release for that platform. Meaning, there was a 2000 PC release of MGS, a 2003 release of MGS2 on PC & Xbox, and there was a 2004 Gamecube release of upgraded MGS, and MGS Snake eater 3DS 2012 so in other words, there were MGS releases on diff. platform before year 2014. Well for me at least (again, u consider probably the first og release on a platform as a release of a game, and i do too but i do consider releases to be also og on diff platforms as well). Sorry for the very long text. Hope i was clear enough (again im not native english speaker, typer or reader). I hope i didnt upset u much, or make u angry, wasnt my intention. And i like ur videos. This the first i was bit on the confronting conflicting side. I dont really like to argue, and i dont mind to be wrong. But in this case i think im not, at least not from my viewpoint on the matter.

As you all can see there is a Major change in the way videogames were made in 1998, if you compare the ps1 games from 1994 to 1997 many of them, especially the early ones, are similar to the games that came out on the saturn, the 3DO and even the Jaguar and 32x., but from 1997 and especially 1998 the games looked very different, with more polygons, but overall the STYLE is what was new., for example Resident Evil 2 just had lots of style in comparison to Re1 which was more like Alone in the Dark or D or the older 3D and CD-Rom games., final fantasy 8 had more style than FF 7 which was more in line of the classic FF games but in 3D, even Tomb Raider 4 had more style than the early tomb raider games, the style was also something very clear in the Dreamcast games that were shown in 98, Sonic Adventure was not only about graphics but about style, and that was the problem of the Sega Saturn for example, many of the Saturn games were stuck and looked older and aged really fast in comparison to the ps1 games from 1998

Hey, just a piece of constructive criticism - I think the compression settings on your microphone are too intense - they're picking up a lot of background noise and stuff. Loved the video, though - really informative! I'd especially love some in-depth coverage of games from those final years of the PS1 - 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 had a lot of good games tucked away!

I really liked crash team racing and Spyro. Ctr I think had better mechanics than Mario kart and still think the game holds up with it's remake complementing it. A game that I like that doesn't get brought up a lot is legend of legaia.

Hey DOUBLE DOG, you should make a final part 5 to cover the most obscure period of the Ps1 which was the 00´s, the ps1 lasted till 2004 or 2006 i think., and there were some heavy hit games released during that period that many didn´t play at that time cause the ps2 was around., for example Final Fantasy 9 came out in 2000 and it was not well received back then., was considered very generic and Final Fantasy 10 stole the spot.., but also there was Chrono Cross, Dinocrisis 2, Soul of Samurai, Tenchu 2, Breath of Fire 4, Legend of Dragoon, Syphon Filther 2 and 3, Delta Force, Covert Ops, Final Fantasy cronicles, anthology and origins, Spyro 3, Spiderman 1 and 2, and many others., many of them people didn´t buy it back then cause the ps2 and the dreamcast were taking all the attention

Metal Gear Solid was released on other platforms other than the Playstation brand since MGS5... Please do your research a bit better. You made it sound like in your video that no MSG game was ever released on anything but a Playstation console until MGS5. A remake of the original MGS released on GameCube, "The Twin Snakes", and MSG2 did have an "enhanced" port to both XBox and Windows PC, and this enhanced port did later make it back to PS2.
