Anything off the "Let It Bleed", "Sticky Fingers" or "Exile On Main Street" albums are stellar. What a great reaction guys! You got it right from the start of the song. It's hilarious watching some of the other reactors listening to this and don't get it until the name 'Lucifer' comes up.... Who else can come up with these sort of lyrics and make such a great track. As you said, they came at the subject from a completely different angle, which catches everyone else out.

You make me happy about how you totally get, not only the music, but the nature of the bands and their members. The Stones and The Beatles were close to simultaneous in their arrivals and completely different. The Stones were straight up bad boys. The Beatles had their dark lyric songs as well but their music made it much harder to pick up on.

My interpretation of this song has always been that Mick is literally singing the Devil's POV, that's why it's upbeat, he's having fun, it's a big FU. On another level, the human level (I'm not religious at all), it's about watching out (like you say at the end) for the pits you can fall into if you're not careful
@racinnut77
@racinnut77 3 жыл бұрын
This song came out in 1968, it is off of "Beggar's Banquet". If you like the piano on the tract it's played by Nicky Hopkins. if there's a classic song from that era with great piano, chances are it's Nicky. The song has nothing to do with praising the devil as some (not necessarily you) would believe. "After all, it was you and me." The devil per the legend simply offers an alternative choice, it's up you to make the right decision. If you don't, don't blame Lucifer.

What makes us happy is the African-derived rhythm, what makes it a cool rock song is what the Stones put on and around the groove. Sympathy For The Devil was the first time they managed to connect their sound to more overt African rhythms. Over the next ten years they made some very serious deep dives into the groove: Hot Stuff, Fingerprint File, Miss You, etc. They can rock ferociously, but they put the 'roll' in their name...

Great reaction guys!...you expressed your pure & true appreciation for the essence of what The Rolling Stones are! Back in the day, they were considered the "bad boys" where The Beatles were the good boys (that is, until Lennon decided to really speak his mind). The title, Sympathy for The Devil provokes in and of itself. However it's really a unique way of saying, don't blame the evil in this world on this manmade boogieman...we humans must take responsibility for our evil actions. Poor devil gets all the blame...have pity on him!!

In the 60s and 70s, my friends and I absolutely loved the Stones. To us, their music was new and exciting with catchy tunes, a great beat and lyrics you could sing along to. Songs like Satisfaction, It's All Over Now, The Last Time and my personal favourite Paint It Black (God, I love that song!) not forgetting Street Fighting Man, Jumping Jack Flash, Brown Sugar, crikey, the list is endless. We couldn't hardly wait for the next Stones record to come out and it always stormed up the charts and they were often on Top of the Pops, practically the only pop programme we had in the UK at that time. Such a massive influence on the music industry - happy days!

It's all in the bass guys (this song I think Kieth plays the bass ) then the perfect timing of the slashing cutting lead guitar , perfectly measured leaving you wanting and waiting for more ....thats Kieths delivery ...he never tries to show off, for him it's all about the spaces and the groove ...off courser this is one of the songs that propelled the Stones into Legends , there has never been an equal to the lyrics and delivery as far as `I am concerned. They are the true chameleons of music always changing mutating but always remaining in the same shape .....thanks for your channel

It’s thought provoking. There are those who need to hear and understand the lyrics and the meaning.

There’s a video on KZbin of the Stones in the studio; 1968 this was released when they were just in their early twenties. You can watch them just starting to create this masterpiece.

Stray Cat Blues is one that is a straight up nasty rocker, you won’t regret doing this song, very risky lyrics for the time that only the Stones could have gotten away with, down and dirty rock n roll Rolling Stones style
