In this episode we detail the extraordinary life of a Romanian child prodigy whose promise was tragically cut short at a young age.
This story was researched and written by a Romanian journalist who contacted me on Instagram - she is at the moment researching and writing the biography of this gifted 19th century child.
It is alleged that she actually designed her castle through communication with her father…after her death; and that the castle today is well known for paranormal phenomena.
It’s a fascinating story and I’m sure you’ll love it. Plus you may even see a few more photos of me when I was younger, in the after chat!
The Romanian journalist that I mentioned in the story, her name is Diana Livesay and she has translated the book about the life of Iulia Hasdeu:
The Scintillating Life of Iulia Hasdeu - ISBN: 9781592111695
It is important to note that Iulia Hasdeu suffered from an unintentional form of abuse that caused her severe depression at only 8 years old. While writing her research paper on Iulia’s life for her BA, the translator found ample evidence that this could have contributed to her early demise. She’s now writing a book that focuses on every taboo and unspoken detail of Iulia Hasdeu’s short life.
Those who want to visit Iulia’s Castle can now do it. It has been restored and opened to the public.
Address: Carol I Bvd. 199, Campina 105600 Romania
Oddie Beau's ODDNESS Urban exploration & famous historical features! vintage crime cases & eccentric people from the past! ...and other weird stuff :) ....a dusty store window, filled with ancient alluring oddities. Once you've entered, you'll never want to leave. Quality over quantity.

Delightful, I think Iulia was always a little between worlds, and understood that whatever she wished to accomplish needed to be given precedence. She and her Father connecting after her death was interesting and beautiful. I love that he built to her design, and honoured her life works. People should be less afraid of the dead, and more willing to consider what the dead may tell us. Love and light my friend…🖤🇨🇦

I agree with you, she definitely was strongly connected to the spirit - which also helped her to bridge the gap between these planes when she was in the spirit. If only people realised that the “dead” are all around them, it shouldn’t scare them, but comfort them. Love and light I return as always my friend.

Romania's such a beautiful and down to earth country. I'm from the Caribbean, so the standard of living is vastly different than to where I was studying at the time (Germany). But my trip to Romania was so pleasant, it's not a particularly wealthy country but it's rich with so much interesting architecture, tiny castles, Palaces and so much culture from the earlier empires still exist right next to sprawling urban parks and communist brutish urban buildings. Pleasing and grounding at the same time And it's really cheap.

Oddie, I really have no words to thank you for your willingness and openness, and for your very important contribution to making her name known to the international public. She was a truly talented Goth. Her poetry was highly influenced by Victor Hugo, whom she used to refer to as "her grandfather". She loved him so much that she considered him as part of her family. I just want to mention that I didn't write "The Scintillating Life of Iulia Hasdeu" but translated it. On this note, I want to thank the Center for Romanian Studies in the US for putting so much care into creating it. Translating gothic and romantic poetry is challenging. It's truly a pity that such a high number of Romanians don't even know who she is, even though they go to schools named after her. My writing will focus more on her psychology, and here I'll leave you with a line from her diary, which is VERY important, and everyone watching this should remember it: "When I was two and a half, they put a quill in my hand and made me write the date. They used that piece of paper to show it off to their friends."

That’s very kind of you Diana, much appreciated and thank you for also enlightening my world as well with this wonderful story. Very sorry if I made a mistake about you translating the book and not writing it - was that actually in the video or in the description of it? The description I can change but if it’s in the video it can’t be edited.

Wild story. When a teenager my friends & myself would occasionally hang out at a beautiful cemetery at night. Drink some beers & try to scare each other in jest. Like you said, we never even thought to vandalise any of the stones & took our trash with us. Still love reading all the epitaphs. Spent ten years in the UK and it was a treasure trove of beautiful cemeteries, especially in the church yards with the lovely pagan yew trees everywhere. Our village church even had a 'devils door' with a shelagh nagig above it. Thank you for bringing up the memories!

Jules Verne’s The Carpathian Castle was written in 1892. It involves contact with the spirit world. Probably a coincidence as the novel was written a couple years before the castle construction.

It DOES seem that there is reason to believe in Romania’s paranormal or extra-sensory ambiance, & in its people’s colorful lore. From its wandering tribes, its Eastern-origins, its many stories about Carpathian supernatural beings, & now, thanks to Oddie’s channel, a story new to many viewers who are only now hearing it. Thanks to the caring narrative & to the many souls who preserved the history of Brogden’s family! A museum worth touring, I’m sure of it being hard to forget once you go there. The whole town probably has an other-worldly feeling, based on the photos included & the way it’s described. Thanks again, my ‘telepathic adventurous’ friend. 🕯🌷🪷🕯♥️

Very glad you enjoyed it Laura, thank you so much. Thank you also for the wonderful compliment, I wish I was still a cutie - I’m aging like vicious cider. Lol nah I still look a lot younger than my years 😄 I’m so sorry that you’ve never got to see the Ocean, how sad is that? It’s the most beautiful healing experience - which is why I always gravitated to the ocean, I am also sadly in a landlocked country now, and long to feel that ocean breeze again.
