Dr. Bikman and I unpack insulin resistance and how it affects virtually every system in the body. Whether you’re interested in losing excess body fat, optimizing brain function, supporting your heart health, or simply feeling your best - this is an episode anyone can benefit from.
On this episode you’ll learn:
- The problem affecting up to 88% of American adults that you may be dealing with (and why its the #1 cause for low energy, stubborn weight gain and more!”)
- What the government has gotten all wrong about dietary guidelines (and why fat is NOT the enemy)
- Why the calories on your food do NOT matter (but THIS does!)
- How to make exercise EASY and FUN (seriously!)
- The secret to increasing ketone production (and the easiest way to switch your body into a fat-burning machine)
- My 3 rules for supporting metabolic flexibility (and why ending a fast correctly is more important than the duration of the fast)

I read the plant paradox 5 years ago now and have kept 50 lbs off since. This stuff is REAL and part of my daily life. I tell people replace the No foods with the Yes foods and a miracle will happen fast Sad that most the people I know still make fun of me on how I eat even though I take no medicine, blood work is perfect and am physically fit at age 60 while they still all struggle with heart disease, diabetes, cholesterol, mental, inflammation....issues and always complain about fatigue and being tired and don't give a s*** I can do 50 push-ups, 100s of ab workout, 50 knee bends, ride bike 25 miles, hike in Colorado mountain trails 10 hours to top, play golf, play tennis, basketball... And less than 1% of the people hangout with can do little of these. Scares me i may be a loner as i enjoy my extended youth Only 2 or 3 people have even asked me how i am able to do it even 5 years later

I hear you. Ive just turned 70, 2 month ago and I look about 55 and feel great. No meds of anykind eighter and my bloodwork ist more than perfect! As a single person I find it sad, as its almost impossible to find a men that is fit and healthy around my age. I am not willing to give up my lifestyle for someone to become their nurse and cleaning lady.

When I was a kids growing up in the 80s as a family I don’t remember anyone ever being seriously sick, we barely got a cold! I didn’t hear of allergies and half the sickness we see today! At the end of the day healthy people don’t make folks money so it’s almost in their best interest from medicine to food to ensure we’re not healthy!!😮

My daughter is petite (a short 5 ft) & a little soft. When she was pregnant this past year she developed gestational diabetes. I immediately told her I can fix that, more fat, less carbs, no processed foods, so keto. She told me not interested & was working w a dietician through her ob. It was essentially the standard American diet but with strict portion control & measuring her sugar. A few weeks after the baby born told she was ‘cured’ & could go back to eating what she wanted. Now she’s clueless abt why she lost the initial 10 lbs but no more pregnancy weight. And she has no interest in forget fasting, or an eating window. Because the dietician knows more than mom

If you're overweight and do keto to lose weight, should you stay off fat from food until you've lost weight? If you consume fat with meals, won't your body use that for energy instead of burning your stored body fat? Hence you'd never lose weight would you 🤔? I don't know how it works.

I've read both your books (keto code and what makes us sick) so I was extremely pleased to see you have this conversation : I only wish Dr Bikman had a chance to give his perspective on the now famous mithocondrial uncoupling effect and how that fits in the energy gap when brain cells consume ketones. Hopefully in the next interview :)

Great interview very interesting and informative - mainly focused on insulin as the hormone problem. I do think that testosterone with limited levels in modern society/fertility problems are also playing a part with increased estrogen type hormones helping to store fat. Main takeaways - Lowering insulin - 1. Control Carbs ( stop the spikes in glucose levels) 2. Prioritise protein ( makes you full /satisfied) - 3. Don't be afraid of fat - proteins come with fat which is okay. Good for muscle growth etc. ( Exercise allows insulin to store glucose into muscles - Exercise (10-15min) after the meal to have the best result rather than before - Fasting - allows fat to be burnt - Ketones are good for the brain - brain needs constant supply of energy.

Yes Estrogenic plastics and Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in our food supply are a major issue. It's also why so many young people are gender confused!!! WHY aren't parents asking this question and going after the very reason their kids are being mutilated or put on devastating hormone blocking drugs... Start here if you want to clean up our environment and save our Earth. 🌎 ✨️

Great video. I had lost 66 lbs (30 kg) within 8 months with a high fat - low carb diet. It was tough and it wasn’t easy being strict with the diet, but I’m happy I did it. It also requires a lot of mental strength. Losing fat and keeping it of is incredibly easy if you know what you’re doing 🙂

It’s been closer to 40 years. My doctor and I talked about insulin resistance (and he called it Metabolic Syndrome,) before I was married, and that’s been 37 years. It was considered out of the mainstream back then, though. Type 1 and type 2 “diabetes” shouldn’t have the same name. 100+ years ago, when artificial insulin first kept type 1 patients alive, the symptoms they were observed to develop were the same as metabolic syndrome-because artificial insulin is difficult to balance, so they have free insulin in their bloodstream. Metabolic Syndrome patients have free insulin because their receptors become resistant and the insulin can’t be utilized. Totally different disease mechanisms, and it’s very confusing to the general public. Oops. I wrote this before I listened to the whole thing. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😂

What happens when one has a CPIR where there’s no glucose ingested- rather the perception of “sweet” was from a sweetener like stevia therefore no sugar or glucose to metabolize? Red blood cells don’t use ketones because they don’t have mitochondria.
@multiplierfx6429
@multiplierfx6429 Жыл бұрын
As your taste receptors in your tongue pick up something sweet from that stevia, your body thinks that it will get glucose and prepares all the standard digestive pathways for it (insulin spike etc). But when it turns out there is no glucose entering your body, it realizes it has been cheated and instead goes on a rampage to hunt down for that immediate glucose that it was promised. Sugar binge of course follows etc etc you know the rest.
@vas4739
@vas4739 Жыл бұрын
@@multiplierfx6429 doesn’t answer my question. I well know the process - my question hinges on the secretion of insulin from the pancreas anticipating to metabolize a sugar molecule but finds none. “Rampage”? Really? How or when EVER is that used in explaining a metabolic process? Can you elucidate?

Thanks so much for this...another piece to the puzzle! I have a vicious circle I that i get migraines ( and have pot belly and various other issues) duevto insulin resistance ...and I guess i have that from relying too heavily on carbs from being vegetarian for 35 years. I can't do fasting or cut carbs or I get migraines 😫. So I really want to boost other foods but what about the lectins! Please please can you give some ideas for filling vegetarian proteins and fats...that are affordable! I did have a chuckle at one video in which wonderful Dr G suggested swapping beans for pine nuts!! Bless there's not many people in the UK right now that can afford to do that! So please high protein vegetarian meal ideas for a budget please

The jorrible medicines only knocked me out and did little for the nausea 😵 On my own, reading Prevention mags, I tried B vitamins and eating proteins with every meal. Haven't had a migraine since!!! My Mom would carry String Cheese in her purse and I would bring protein bars... 😊 Nuts are a good protein source and are easy to carry. 😉

OK, insulin knocks on the door and the cell says the home is full. Dr. Bikman say that the problem is long-term high levels of insulin that causes insulin insensitivity. My perspective is that the "house is full". It is the high levels of intramyolipid toxicity within the cell.
@alexpukay

So if the brain cells can't use glucose and starve to death in the presence of abundant glucose then insulin resistance can't be due to the cell being full of glucose and therefore resisting insulins insistence on more glucose. The other idea that abundance of fat in the body causes insulin resistance is much more plausible.

Stop consuming table sugar (1/2 fructose), excessive fruits and alcohol. Both fructose and alcohol are processed only through the liver. Too much and you have a fatty liver spilling over into visceral fat with a high level of inflammation. Not healthy at all.

Dr. Bikman has always emphasized in all his podcasts that heavily dense foods come from protein and their fats. He should have emphasized that in this interview. Maybe it is contradictory to dr. Gundry' opinion. That seemed unusual to me and not very informative as to what protein dr. Bikman truly believes as effective.

I'm surprised with the number of alarms that went off on the starches, sugars and grains that Fiber wasn't touched on more. However, I know that you both have to leave *SOME information out because that's your business, getting a patient to come in so you can give them information that you didn't give in the online lecture. So instead of going into the benefits of fiber before and during a meal, I'll assume that you'll cover it at your appointments or addendums forthcoming.

Sorry, wrong info! The only reason insulin is produced is to convert the converted suger, derived from starch, into the cell. Fruit sugar from fruit foes NOT need insulin to get into cells, unless you have still lots of fat from previous meals in your system. Also its the liver that stores the fresh sugar snd all the dugar thats to much, gets converted to fat.

Unlike Dr. Bikman, I believe in fiber and the digestive process. It seems that there is a lack of the many functions preformed by the intestines. Dr. Bikman is wrong about insulin resistance. Blood glucose cannot get into the house because Intramyocellular lipid toxicity.

Fructose is only processed through the liver. Fructose cannot be processed by other cells in the body. Too much fructose and you get a fatty liver and excess visceral fat (pot belly) just like you would when consuming too much alcohol. Leads to lots of inflammation...not healthy at all unless you are saving up visceral fat to hibernate in the winter.

I still hear so much nonsense in this video! Explain to me how somebody like Tim Noakes, a marathon runner!!!! could developp diabetes 2 in the first place? Wasn't he activating his muscle enough? Well now tell me, how a common mortal could do sports 12 hours a day? I happen to know many sportives (not week ends sportives) who became diabetics (2) even though they were thin and very active... I know diabetes2 is not an insuline issue, its the sugar we consume. As soon as one stops consuming sugars (carbs also) the body heals. High activity is not even needed to lose body mass!

Tom probably eats a bad diet. People like Tom think they can eat whatever they want just because they exercise. Look at the runner who dropped dead back years ago. There is nothing wrong with Gundry having a stomach. There are skinny people who are sick because they think they can eat whatever they want because they are slim. I have a friend like that.
