We liked this one a lot. Excited to see how the 2025 remake does!

Family fued host Richard Dawson was a huge star of the 70s/80s tv and Battle royal was awesome! A game changer! This was also somewhat of a commentary on Americas hunger and need for entertainment and television.
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse6 күн бұрын
Ah so he was a show host, we thought we recognized him from somewhere. Also agree 100% with Battle Royal it was so dope. When we watched Hunger Games I totally thought it copied the Battle Royal movie (without knowing it was from a book at the time).

Congratulations on 1000 subscribers! As a teen in the 90s, this was one of my favourite movies. I love the one-liners. The stalkers are a bit silly, but the movie is great fun. I'm pretty sure I've read the book by Stephen King (Richard Bachman), because in my teens I read every Stephen King book I could find. I have, however, seen the movie so many times that I can't remember the book anymore. I found this quote: "King wasn't happy with the changes made to The Running Man, with the Arnold film bearing little resemblance to the book outside of the basic concept.", so I guess they changed a lot for the movie.

The modern version of the "sadistic gameshow" genre started with another Stephen King novella, "The Long Walk." Much, much darker than the Hunger Games or Battle Royale. There's supposedly an adaptation in work, but I'd guess they'll soften it up a lot.

Fun fact Richard Dawson who plays Dameion played Sergent Newkirk on TV sitcom Hogan's Heroes in the 60's. I really liked the music when Richards bursts in and says "It's showtime!" I got a movie reaction suggestion for you it's another one of favorites, The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future. Those are also two others you should react to.

Oh interesting, we'll add that one to the list! We do have plans for Back to the Future, but we have both seen Top Gun (old and new) so we won't be able to do a 'reaction' video for it.

Great reactions guys, and yep Host was THE host back in the day, so Giddeon would be like getting Steve Harvey to play the host in the new movie or something, ie already famous on TV Ohhh there we go, right at the end, I KNEW IT, you guys already knew it was a book! ;) Thanks again guys, awesome stuff!

A funny lower budget version of this idea is an old movie called Death Row Gameshow. It is more comedy and has some songs written for it.

The villain is Richard Dawson, the host of the TV show Family Feud. Dystopian gladiatory-sport sci-fi like "The Hunger Games" and "Battle Royal" goes back to a short story "The Seventh Victim" (1953 Robert Scheckley) which was adapted into the Italian movie "The 10th Victim." (1965) Other movies exploring the same idea are "Rollerball" and "Deathrace 2000" (both 1975) "Tron" (1982) and "Tron: Legacy" (2010) "The Salute of the Jugger" (AKA "The Blood of Heroes" 1989) "Star Wars ep 1: The Phatom Mencace" (1999) "Series 7: The Contenders" (2001) "Gamer" (2009) "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017) and "Alita: Battle Angel" (2019) "Gamer" is almost a remake of "The Running Man" updated for the online gaming generation. "The Running Man" also owes as much to the humans-hunting-humans sub-genre of suspense/thriller fiction created by Richard Connell's short story "The Most Dangerous Game" (1924) which was adapted into several movies and inspired dozens of others including "Hard Target" (1993) and "Surviving The Game" (1994)
