"I'm not into politics, I'm into survival" - Governor Schwarzenegger, in "The Running Man" before becoming Governor. You hit the nail on the head. Not every movie that's cheesy is bad. Too many people these days bash anything that's not some sort of Oscar-worthy masterpiece, but there's a place for cheesy action, ridiculous comedy and over-the-top horror. "Dynamo" actor was an MIT graduate who founded a computer company, wrestled in the Olympics, sang professional opera, and was brilliant in the movie Stir Crazy. The book 'the Running Man' is credited to Richard Bachman. This is the name used for science fiction work by Steven King. Jesse Ventura (Captain Freedom) spat chewing tobacco across Dylan's boot in Predator. Yaphet Kotto was Parker in Alien. Maria Conchita Alonso was a cop in Predator 2. I believe that Killian (Richard Dawson) was a real game show host. Sven (Sven Ole Thorson) was Arnie's training partner.

Some cast notes! Laughlin, the non-hacker dude, was Yaphet Kotto, who you might remember from his roles in Alien and as Mr. Big in Live and Let Die. Fireball was Jim Brown who was a legendary football player, and who had a lot of roles in the 60s and 70s. He kinda got shafted on screentime in this one. Captain Freedom was Jesse "The Body" Ventura, who was well known as a wrestling commentator prior to going into acting. You saw him in Predator. He later became the Governor of Minnesota. That was not Minnesota's greatest decision. The security guard, Sven, was Sven-Ole Thorson, who shows up in almost every Arnold film, as well as in a few others like Gladiator or Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. The resistance leader was Mic Fleetwood, who was in Fleetwood Mac. As the "Fleetwood" part. The dance choreographer on this was Miss Paula Abdul, who was about a year away from her first album being released. It did well. For other films to try out, might I suggest Commando, Red Heat or Raw Deal from the Arnie camp? (Commando is the best of the three, but not many reactions to the other two). For non-Arnie, Runaway (from 1984) or Freejack (1992) would keep to the dystopian theme or for non-dystopian, try Road House, Escape from New York or Tango and Cash.

Love your reaction to Arnie, Jen... His one liners are entirely awful, but so entirely memorable. Yapphet Kotto was the black actor in an entirely underplayed role. And Maria Conchita-Alonso, she killed it then and kills it now. And of course Killian the villian (I know), Richard Dawson (Family Feud, etc) playing a caricature of a gameshow host or himself??? Great reaction Jen! Anaconda isn't terrible. It's not great, but it's certainly a passable cult classic creature feature film that's definitely worth a watch. John Voight was great as always. Owen Wilson's always fun to watch. Ice Cube was surprisingly good as well given that it's not his typical kind of role. I'd stay away from the sequels though. They get progressively worse and more absurd, and not in a good way. Another movie in the same vein as Anaconda is Lake Placid which was surprisingly good. Betty White has a hilarious bit part in it and steals every scene she's in. Also, definitely watch Squid Game!

We started at the Jr High and ended at the 7/11 many miles away. We’d run through people’s back yards and everything. Jesse Ventura was a pro wrestler-Jesse "The Body" Ventura. He was also in Predator along side Arnold. Richard Dawson was on the 1960's sitcom Hogans Heroes and hosted Family Feud for several years. Jesses Ventura was also a mayor or Governor. I can't remember off hand though. Yaphet Koto played Kanega in James Bond Live and Let Die, and was Parker in Alien.

My *FAVORITE* Arnie film. I'm sure someone has already mentioned that the writer of the book its based on, Richard Bachman, is really Stephen King, but this is another example of how movies of King's stories are always better when the directors do not follow the source material completely. Much like Kubrick's The Shining, this film takes many liberties with the plot and all for the better. Also, because I'm contractually obligated to: CADRE COLA: IT HITS THE SPOT

I want to agree with you but the examples you give are dreadful lol. "The Running Man" Novel is way better than this movie...as for Kubricks "Shining", I'm torn because the first half of the movie is very kubrick-dull, the second half is kubrick-amazing...so. In either case the books are better (although Mr Kubrick did a way better job). "Misery" is a good example of a King Film that does it better...maybe Carrie is there too? Firestarter isn't a terrible movie...

I hard disagree. Shawshank and Green Mile are the best King adaptations, and they are very close to the source material. This movie is a ton of fun, but I think the serious tone of the original story is just as good - they are different enough that it's hard to even compare them.
@AutoAlligator

So fun to see this film reacted to! Big part of my childhood. Seeing how much you enjoyed that one, I feel you HAVE to watch Commando as that film distills everything Arnie into the perfect cheesy 80s package and has some of the best one-liners of his career, and has a very similar tone to Running Man. If you want a more serious Arnie film, go with Conan the Barbarian, which is actually my favorite film of all time (one of very few truly GOOD pre-LotR fantasy films out there) and has a soundtrack to rival the greatest.

If you haven't watched Arnold in COMMANDO, I would highly recommend it. Bill Duke, who played Mac in Predator, is in this 1985 film. I heard that Arnold might actually do a sequel to COMMANDO after all these years. I'd look out for that film! -OG

Great movie. One of my favorite Arnold movies it is so underrated. It was overshadowed by the the success of Predator that came out at the same year. Other great Arnold movies is Conan The Barbarian (Arnie breakout role and a epic movie with epic soundtrack), Twins , End Of Days and Collateral Damage. Fun fact the leader of the resistance Mic is an actual Singer of the Fleetwood Mack a famous rock band. The bad guy was an actual show host. Fyi the novel the movie is loosely based on was written by Steven King but in my opinion 10 times better than the book.

I hope she also does TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise series, cuz they are all alot better than TOS imo. TOS was about 34% brilliant 33% ok, and 33% blecchhh. I can forgive them that, as Roddenberry was a pioneer and the genre was really underdeveloped until that time. It looks cheesy now, but in it's time, those special effects were ground breaking. I hope she loves it and then wants to see the others, cuz she will be pleasantly surprised at the increase in quality of all the facets of production.
