The Russia-Ukraine grain deal is over. Who gains? | The Take

Russia has bombed grain stores in Ukraine, and pulled out of a deal that had allowed safe passage of food exports through the Black Sea. Ukraine is a major exporter of grain and corn, and the deal, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey last year, kept people fed all over the world. The International Rescue Committee called the initiative a “lifeline for the 79 countries and 349 million people on the frontline of food insecurity.” So how will the end of the deal affect them?

The grain deal expired to it's expiry date....Russia chose not to renew because UN was not keeping it's end of the deal, that is to allow Russian grain and fertilizer to be exported...of all the Ukrainian grain exported , only 3 % reached the countries that needed it the most, the rest went to wealthy countries of EU, some to China and other places...The port of Odessa where Ukrainian grain was stored was also used to store weapons from the west to attack Russia....Russia will send grain to Africa for free, including shipping costs, 6 countries the most needy will receive between 25,000 and 50,000 tons of grain

Foe starters Russia initiated the blocked not UN. Ukrainian grain went to its traditional markets. The 3% was as demanded. The port of Odessa is Ukraine territory which it is justified to place weapons to protect. The 'free grain' Russia will offer will go so far there is no assurance after that.

Ukraine has no navy (Russians sunk all Ukrainian ships). Nobody is going to challenge blockade of Ukrainian ports. Insurance premium of any ship that tried to challenge it, would skyrocket. Even if somehow a ship gets into Ukrainian port, Russians can easily sink it there. Zelenskyy regime is on its last legs. Its final demise is a matter of months not years. This grain problem will be solved pretty soon. Russian grain will be exported from Russian Odessa.

the Grain Deal was never essentially about grain. Ukraine can export grain via Poland, Hungary, and Constanta, Romania. The grain deal was really about Black Sea access for the AFU to ingres and egress weapons, all goods, avoid sea mines, and float sea drones to attack Crimea. Russia's refusing the grain deal is therefore not weaponising grain, but to cut AFU from Black Sea access.

From the point of view of the islamic desert sates and kingdoms other countries should better not learn from Putin that stopping food exports is an efficient strategy to get ones own will. Because if more food producing countries do that (they can do this for example as a reaction to Putins act; stopping food exports would keep food prices low for their own population) than desert countries (aka countries that are not food-selfsuficient) will suffer most.
