Simo did not use optics, not because he was a “pro," because the rising sun during the morning "hunt" could betray his position due to lens flare. In Stalingrad, especially in winter, the sky was gray due to clouds, snow, smoke of burning cars, tanks, planes and houses, gunpowder in the air, plus battles were in urban conditions where there were plenty of ruins, dust and shadows. Use optics in such conditions in order to discern any movement in this gray hash is necessary.

Most people likely think of detachable box magazines when they hear the word "magazine" in relation to firearms. The Mosin's internal magazine is loaded through the use of stripper clips from the top while the bolt is open. Meaning that these snipers had to load every single cartridge one by one every time.

Depending what you mean by "one by one." The internal magazine has a door on the bottom with a folding spring to feed the rounds as the shooter cycles the bolt. You can load 5 rounds from the bottom rather than by stripper clip from the top. Yes, you load them 1 by 1 into the magazine, but it's not like it becomes a single shot rifle.
