I remember skateboarding around Kent Island as a kid. On one ferociously hot day i had an epiphany. I usually don’t like coil splittable pickups, because the single coil setting never sounds as good as a stand alone single coil pickup, IMO. However, I need to try one of these guitars out, because from the demo this split single coil just sounds like a good single coil! If it does in person too, then I’m going to need to buy one of these! I’d probably keep the coil split 70% of the time, but having a humbucker setting in the bridge too would be really handy.

I have that limited edition Vela you all did awhile back (Brazilian wood) it’s ridiculous how great that Bridge pickup sounds. A beautiful chime that gets gritty with such a great crunch sound. I own A HBII, 594, 94’CE-24, 30th anniversary artist package custom 24, a SAS NF and an SE Alex Lifeson. That vela is always the guitar I grab because it’s cleans are magical and it’s grit is awesome. The second favorite would be the SAS. I love the neck humbucker of the 594 over the others but, for what I paid for that Vela, I’m shocked and maybe a bit annoyed it sounds so damn good. The only thing I’d say comes close is the PRS Studio(that I’ve heard). I want one of those. Also want an SE HBII and SE Paul’s guitar. The Mira is yet another PRS I cannot stop wishing I owned but, it’s getting out of hand.(My PRS addiction) I need to stop watching these videos.

0:40 The farthest departure in the PRS lineup from what I may traditionally think of is the Silver Sky-that's a completely different looks and totally different sound. This one, the Vela, is an easily recognizable PRS.
@ALEX_STRUCK2 жыл бұрын
Seriously? Other than the headstock, how is the Vela easily recognizable as a PRS? I agree the Silver Sky is also a major departure, but has the bird inlays.
@aleksandrnestrato2 жыл бұрын
@@ALEX_STRUCK Yes, seriously. The Vela is easily recognizable as the PRS because of its body shape and its pickups’ layout. To me the Custom 24, the Custom 22 and the Vela seem reeeaaally close in appearance while the Silver Sky looks as a Stratocaster with a fremd headstock, kinda like a fake Strat. But definitely not a PRS. One more thing. The initial words in the vid were "the farthest departure in the PRS lineup". Same words did I use in my comment. That means that Vela IS still a departure from the lineup. I just don’t agree that this is the farthest one. While *you* seem to understand my words as if I were saying that Vela is not a departure from the lineup at all. Neither did I say nor think that.

What would you recommend from the S2 series for a session guitarist? I am really considering entering the world of PRS because I really want a guitar that is build well and has good intonation and stays in tune, also plays easy. These are very important for studio sessions and lately my guitars fail me in that part. I've been a single coil kind of guy so far but lately I noticed that I find myself loving humbuckers more and more. I can't really spend the money for the core right now even though I tried a DGT and it is to die for... I also tried a CE I liked them too but maybe I can start with an S2 and work my way up. PRS humbucker is the only humbucker I actually like + their signature resonant rubbery timbre and best coil split / tap sounds. But this humbucker bridge sounds too nasal and unpleasant. And the coil split sounds a bit harsh, thin, brittle, and not smooth. May actually be worse than most of the PRS bridge humbucker & coil split sounds. I hope there will be a version of the S2 Vela Semi-hollow with 2 Type D Single Coil pickups both on bridge & neck, and non-offset body. Just a simple and versatile build. Might be a nice telecaster alternative. I've always considered the S2 Standard as the telecaster of PRS guitars because of its simplicity and versatility, but ever since they changed the pickups from HFS to 58/15, they sound nasal, brittle, floppy, and basically not smooth and sweet. Add the pickup cover update that they did and the nasal sound just became more apparent. You can hear and compare it in their videos and others'. So now I'm just hoping there will be a non-offset S2 Vela Semi-Hollow with two Type D Single Coil pickups to be the new telecaster of PRS for me. Kinda like S2 Standard body but Semi Hollow and with the Vela Type D Single Coil Pickups. Just a simple but highly versatile guitar. Also, the birds. Please put on the birds on your S2s like the S2 Standard. Thank you, PRS. Paul even said on one of your videos, he started the moon inlays because he thought dots were boring. So why put on dots now? Then there was more demand of the birds than the moon inlays, so the moon just vanished. S2s used to have birds so why dots now? And, finally... Even SEs have birds which are made in other countries with lower labor fee, etc. So why are these S2s which you say are made in your factory in Maryland don't have birds? Why does the S2 line which you market as workhorse guitars don't have birds and guitars that aren't made in your country and factory have birds? Are you not proud of the S2 line to have your signature birds? Does this mean to have birds, we either have to buy PRS that aren't made in your factory, or highly decorated maple tops and other models and usually more expensive guitars just to have the birds? Wouldn't it make more sense if the SEs have dots and US made have birds? Like for example; S2s will have regular bird inlays and your more expensive ones will have Abalones or something and SEs will have dots or maybe even moons. I mean even the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo have Abalone bird inlays while the US-made S2 Vela Semi Hollow which has almost the same price have dots. That's just sad. Not even regular bird inlays. Not even moons (which I don't really like but still...) Yet your non-US-made SEs have birds and even abalone birds. Why? Please enlighten me for I just don't understand why and am a bit saddened and probably many others too who have grown to like your signature bird inlays. I mean wouldn't it make more sense for the SEs to have dots or moons and US made ones with your birds? So why do you put regular birds and even abalone birds on outsourced factory SE guitars and just sad plain dots on US factory-made S2s that mostly have higher or same price?
