That sounds like a great deal. Dude, I admit I don't know half of the photography terminology you so anamorphically use, but I love it, your channel and I thank you for the unequivocal gift of laughter every chance I get to watch. You are truly talented in a million ways, so, just as you may not be able to part with Sony (? That's next), please stick around until I graduate. It won't be long, I'm 69 and no one explained anything about this gawd-awful process. Just like the birds & the beeeez! So not fair. But neither is adolescence, acne or 2 inches. To your question (I'm parafrasing) "in log they have perfect skies but they underexpose your face, every camera company does that, why?". The explanation is simple. Digital cameras preserve the highlights because if they are blown there is no way to recover them, and underexpose the rest of the image because you can recover the shadows in post. That's it. Yes, doing that ads noise, but they rather have noise than a blown out image. Cheers! Love your channel!

I can tell you from personal experience, the R8 rocks as a wildlife camera. You DONT need IBIS sync, it doesn't even work at telephoto focal lengths, *it switches off* and leaves the lense to it. The 100-400 non-L is a great lightweight tele (better than the older non-L EF glass) but really, you want the expensive teles like 100-500 or 200-800 and just suck it up. Mind you, if you're carrying that much lense, the body weight doesn't matter so toss-up between R6II and R8.

The RF 100-400 is a fantastic lens. At least for wildlife still photography. The only downside is if you're shooting at sunrise or sunset when it's darker out. In any other time, it's been fantastic. I'm always out during the day and have had zero issues with it. Plus, it has a minimum focus distance of less than 3 feet at 400mm. Yeah, it doubles as a great macro. The sharpness rivals the 100-500. Not much bad about it, especially when you can find it for $450 new during sales. I'm shooting with an R7, so i'm getting the IBIS sync plus the 1.6 mag, so i'm shooting a 7 stop stabilized 160-640mm for $450. Life is good.

The last clip, when talking about your face, looked the best (correct exposure). In the other clips the exposure on your face was too dark, but the extra light in the last clip, also killed the 3D pop in the background. It became flat. Maybe because the ekstra brightness killed the effect of your background lights. The mood was lost.

you actually don’t get more dynamic range filming in log. that’s a misunderstanding and myth that’s been spreading. the sensor always has the same dynamic range. filming in log does in some very specific circumstances use that dynamic range in a slightly better way, but then again in other circumstances it uses it in a worse way. the rule of thumb should be to never film in log, because it is never needed. unless your whole grading workflow is adapted to log footage, you can just film in standard. all the information is there, all the dynamic range. you can get the exact same results as log, just a different path there

The truth about the open gate ("sad" is only for you) is that: ALL THE SENSOR is used, not like in 16 :9. If indeed there is also a 6k or 8k option, the "creator" has the option to REFRAME (into a 24p 4k timeline) WITHOUT ANY LOSS OF QUALITY. I note the date of the video. When and whenever the "beloved" of most youtubers, Sony, announces that it "has" camera with open gate, see what "anthems" we will see...
@DennisKsilyov
@DennisKsilyov 9 ай бұрын
Shame! - You first need to define what a Gate is inside of a film camera, then define what open-gate means, start with the basics. 35mm cinema runs vertically in Academy 1.33 aspect 4x3 - (4 perforation) - 1.85 (almost 16:9) 3 perf, and 2.40 - 2 perf, all cinema cameras had an interchangeable gate - or if you wanted to use anamorphic lenses to shoot Scope 2.40 or 2.37 Panavision with higher amount of film resolution and less grain You'd opt for either 4x3 4 perf gate, or a wider gate - shooting with an Open Gate would just smear light on to the former and latter film strips if possible by the camera design. OpenGate in ARRI Alexa means exactly the ability to shoot 4x3 full sensor exposure for anamorphic lenses or to stabilize a shaky 16:9 shot. - An asthmatic mountain hiker who invented shoving motion picture film into a tiny camera sideways at 8 perforations creating Leica is responsible for all the stupidity of "Full Frame" and other abominations done in the name of all things Digital that are borrowed from the Analog photochemical universe. TV and Video and KZbin is not Film or Cinema, regardless of how many features manufacturers throw onto Digital SLR and Mirrorless photo cameras designed for Point and Shoot and Advanced Point and Shoot consumers. If you're putting 1/2 a million dollars in front of the lens in terms of actors, explosions and stunts, you need Opengate and RAW - If you're shooting video, just shoot 8-bit compressed, and control the lighting - heck shoot it in 60p/50p to give it that soap opera effect. 4k is not even needed. Let alone 6k-8k.

"Canon Color Science" changes from model to model. The one on the R8 today seems to be a bit tooo magenta, and over-enhances the pinks in the skin. Overall I think I prefer the A7Siii colors, although when you put them side by side it does look a bit too green/yellow. Nothing matches the BMPCC OG, although that little crop Nikon you were messing with actually looked pretty good to me.

The action 3 has opengate, sort of... sorry. I like to use the full sensor, not for vertical video, vertical is crazy for lazy audience.

Voightlander is my favorite but I think Canon on Sony looked "best," whatever the hell that means.

Do a monkey strength video series to go with the book. Or is that what the vegetable freaks channel is about? Both the still overpriced Sony a7Siii and the goofy Canon R8 suck. The glass is what's up. Good comparison video. Haven't visited your channel in years. Nice to see you still cranking out the original content. I'm buying a Toney shirt, not for you but for Mr Tony Northwood. I recently fled both NYC and LA after decades in the movie business to Eastern Coastal Connecticut. Which makes Tony practically my neighbor. What should I go out and film around here? I've only got lots of film cameras and some old cell phones. Iphone 11 w/ bmcc overlay is dope enough for me. What's the perfect camera?!? All I wanted was the perfect camera!!!

You need to go back and equalize the lighting for a fair comparison. I liked your last lighting setup the best. The Voitlander has great pop but your lighting looked like you shot inside a cave, compared to the last setup. That said, Canon lens on the Canon body rendered the best color. But you knew that.

I would live the Sony A7S3 sensor on a small DJI Pocket style gimbal with a 18 mm lens.

Would you like to review some older Konica or Minolta lenses for video and slow motion? I'm really interested in how they would look, compared to the Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses.
