I stayed at a Salvation center in Houston, Tx in the eighties. I landed a job downtown and rode the bus morning and evening and on off days stayed in the street. I met people from all around the world played chess with some and explained bible to others. I attended services and now am 68 and been off the st. Homeless since 1989 or so. They did save my life I am a minister, biblical writer and a hymnists today. I am thankful.

The Salvation Army are so great I got baby clothes from them and a pushchair, I had no money, but now I have money I am always helping them out by donating,

I think what you're doing is very good you're offering people hope and encouragement that somebody cares for them I was surprised I'm sorry when you said in this KZbin clip that the government don't give you any money towards what you're doing in my opinion they should be without a doubt giving you some money to run the drop-in centre god bless you all for helping the poor

If the Government gave taxpayers' money to the SA, they'd have to do so for any and all similar churches and charities. How would you draw the line between which org gets what ? Have an army of ministers evaluating the effectiveness of each org and shutting down funding if they fail to meet a threshhold. Having said that, I would hope that the govt and council provide suitable tax relief on the rents etc of these buildings, and that people's donations could be gift-aided.

That drop in centre is too small and too crowded. There is a Salvation Army drop in centre in Wandsworth on a Friday from 10am to 2pm that is very under used. So why not direct people to that place? There should also be other Salvation Army drop in centres opened in other parts of London and other parts of the country!

Ed, we are not sure about this particular service however The Salvation Army are working hard to make sure the most vulnerable people are not forgotten about at this time. Across the UK and the Republic of Ireland by day we are providing breakfast and lunch to people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping housed in temporary accommodation, and by night we are serving hot food at a safe distance. We are working hard to make sure the most vulnerable people are not forgotten about during these times.
