That second pont pretty much sums up why Origins has proven one of my favourite open-world games, the adventure of it all.

The game's good. Scenery is top tier, story is decent. The problem this game faces is that they revamped the entire way the game works, expect the next one to take what they did right and expand on it. They'll flesh it out more. I hope.

Perfectly said. The old Assassin's Creed games were great, but they often lacked any sense of adventure. With many of them, you're only ever running around one city and that can get old. I mean how many times do you need to see Hagia Sophia or the Palais de Tuillieres. I loved how Origins felt so open. It felt like a real open world with so much to explore, and with almost no load screens to break the action up, it only reinforced that openness. It feels like a real adventure. Like you're going around, exploring Egypt, righting wrongs, uncovering ancient secrets. I just loved how, without any loading screen or pause in the action, you could go from riding around in the vast, expansive desert, to fighting off bandits, to exploring some tomb of a long dead Pharoah to then stumbling on some massive ancient, yet still functioning installation of a long dead, hyper-advanced civilization hidden right beneath the already ancient tomb. One minute, you're exploring an Ancient Egyptian temple that is fully furnished and clearly in use, but a short journey away, you have another temple that is in complete ruins, and you're left to wonder its history. Who built it? Why? When? Everything and everywhere had a story. There was so much to discover, to learn, to see. Like those tombs that were built on top of those advanced ancient installations. Even without any context from Ubisoft, you could see what was happening. Pharoahs stumbled on something they believed to be of the Gods, and clearly sought to be buried there to be closer to those Gods. Along with that, the wide array of places to explore. Deserts, forests, mountains, cities, marshlands, farmlands, open seas. Origins isn't just a great Assassin's Creed game, it's a great game period. Ashraf Ismail and his team made some big promises, and they fucking delivered and more.

Differently leveled zones bother me in games. Pulls me right out of the immersion. TW3 was probably the worst one in this regard. I'm killing a griffin within the first hour of the game, then I sail to Skellege and get raped by an unarmored peasant. The only way this system would work would be if they planted weaker enemies in the starter zone (not lower leveled Dragons) then proceeded to introduce stronger enemies in other zones (not higher leveled Rabbits). Requires a bit more effort. Sure. But this way you get to have your cake and eat it too. Also. Traveling back to the first zone once you've progressed a bit feels so shit in games with these systems.
@ThSadomasohista5 жыл бұрын
Though I agree that the best way to go about it in terms of immersion is to have weak things seem weak (plebs) and strong things be strong (dragons) But if I were to sacrifice this immersion for the benefit of a better gameplay (which levelled systems are for me) I'd make that deal. Plus, on the exact opposite of what you said, I adore going back to the first zone and being able to clearly quantify my progress, as what originally gave me struggles I can now just absolutely rape. But hey, everyone has their own opinion.

You forgot to mention all the sandbox interactions in the envoirment like aiming over a torch sets your arrows on fire. Shooting the alarm with a fire arrow sets off the alarm so everyone in the camp rushes over to it while you steal their loot. Being able to throw oil vases on enemies to give them a significant weakness to fire. Hiding form guards by jumping in a moving cart with wheat in it. Getting in the ballista to take out heavy guards. Those are just some examples I just got of the top of my head, but all in all you've still made a great summary of Origins' gameplay.

The political filth and stunning architecture of Alexandria, the depressing depression of quattara depression, and those "Nomes", all of them are just spectacular. Lake mareotis feels like God himself was baptized in it. I can't imagine how Ubisoft manage to acquire so much detail. So goddamn much of detail and put it in such a gigantic and monstrous map. Good points. I would just add that I LOVE random NPC group activities in this game...dances, music bands, sacrifices, temple praying, field workers... there is so much happening around.. Once I was going from roof to roof, I even saw a tutor teaching 2 kids in a private yard! I have no idea if those little scenes are authentic, but they made me stop and look/listen at NPCs. Not sure that I've done this in any other game. Combined with the graphics, the sound design (I noticed that the wheels of your carts do different sound depending on the ground they roll in... crazy!), it's amazing and I agree that this open world is a little piece of art.
@hemangchauhan28646 жыл бұрын
Origin's takes far more from *Witcher 3* (which took from other open world games, including old Assassin's Creed, ironically), and developers admitted it openly. To be honest, this game, which is a audio visual masterpiece, falls under it's own weight of mechanics, grinding and it's attempt at making each quest unique.

I disagree with the comparison with The Elder Scrolls. I think it is apparent this game borrowed far more from The Witcher 3 than from Skyrim or any other TES. Detective mechanics in Origins call back to the witcher senses in TW3, and fighting system is far more similar to TW or Shadow of War than it is to TES. I highly doubt leveled enemies came from some nostalgia to Morrowind rather than the recently released and successful Witcher. I think a comparison between those two would have been far more fitting.

I don't care about this game besides the open world and the atmosphere, everything else is extremely generic rpg stuff, which i hate. I guess i just hate the RPG gameplay system or something idk, but i know that i spent 600 hours in Skyrim and that is because it was much more immersive, the interface wasn't in my face, there waren't any pictures or any flashy stuff that doesn't fit the atmosphere at all like in Origins, every item was displayed in front of you, no flashy photos or anything. And it isn't even an Assassins Creed at its core, it is an RPG disguising itself as Assassins Creed so the whole ''its the Animus'' argument doesn't really work especially since i literally don't have a care for the modern day anymore since they fucked it all up in the ending of AC 3.

I miss games like Suikoden III and early Final Fantasy where you have a story that hooks you from start to finish of the game making the game play very addicting. Too many games are trying to go with sandbox make your own choices game play which is just harder to make but not funner to play. There is little sense of accomplishment in those games. On the other hand, a game with an enticing story makes even grinding and hunting for items feel like you are enriching the story. Many games nowadays just make you grind and hunt items but you feel it's just time consuming and want to get on with the next stage of the story. Games with an enticing story and dialogue makes you want to grind and hunt for those items. Anyone have any recommendations? Games that don't meet the criteria include: Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Witcher 3 (beautiful but story doesn't hook you), Mafia III, etc. I tried a Final Fantasy game that was after X and it also didn't have an addicting story and game play.

Its hard to discribe Bayek personality, and hard to care for his cause, which lets be honest, "they kiled my child revenge" thing is pretty "meh".... Ubi bragged about having a lot of side quests but they were all boring to be honest. They never manage to make me care about them. They need quality in terms of writting and creativity. They should have focus on egypt mysteries way more. In conclusion, its very amazing to me that despite my feeling of unsatisfaction towards the story and side quest which is so important to me, i kept playing because the map and art design and graphics are absolutely stunning. Sadly, its what ubisoft hace become to me. They have good gameplays and environnement but everything else is underwhealming and disappoiting. They need to hire better writters!! until then, i will never buy ubisoft games at full price.

True ability of choice: Choose your poison. Choose your challenge. Have the ability to cakewalk ezz cheese things, or to go full masochist and go against the odds. True freedom to choose, and to handle the responsibilities and consequences that come after. THAT, is a real game.

ACO is the only Ass Creed, and only game, I’ve ever bought on day 1, for the whole $60 price. That was money well spent.

You're probably aware of this, but you can mod skyrim to have levelled areas now. The name of the mod refers to morrowind I think. It can be tough to balance properly with a heavy mod load, but done right it's an incredible experience

It annoys me in games like the Witcher 3 when you can't mow down civilians and I remember in Assassin's Creed 4 it made it kinda difficult to attack civilians. Sometimes I just really wanna joke about setting dudes on fire and stuff like that

Killing civilians in medieval games are boring imo. Its only fun in games like GTA5.

Mr Mince in Assasins Creed 1 you were able to kill as many civilians as you wanted, as soons as you finished the story and basically became the master assasin, which doesnt make really a lot of sense :D

Mr Mince In the case of The Witcher 3 though, Geralt of Rivia is a previously established character who has 7 novels that serve as lore behind him. You’re meant to role play as him, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t just be cutting down civilians for no reason, because he would never do that.

I wouldn't a big fan of AC either and Origins was really good. The graphics and combat is so much better. I don't care about the gender Identity intro on the devs part. I could care less pushing identity politics needs to be left out of games!!!!!

Back in the day before digital download sand box games were like dwarf fortress or even harvest moon where you removed parts of the game and received materials to use for crafting objects and then placed back in the world. Like playing in a sandbox where you can create and destroy and create again. Games like assassin's creed and elder scrolls are not sandbox games. They are open world, non linear games which is not sandbox. That's why they are different terms. Things like minecraft and terraria were released with sandbox description and all the game dev's jumped on the sand boxband wagon while not being truly sandbox games. I dont blame gamers for confusing this because many gamers were not into true sandbox games back in the day. I blame developers wanting more tags in the digital stores. And I doubt anyone who misuses the term will ever care or change. Kinda like newb and noob.

Really great video! Although I think AC Origins borrow from Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild more than it does from Skyrim.

I killed so many civilians one time the game changed its name too *Assassin's* *Creed* : *Black* *Death* Like did anyone else poison a corpse and carry it around a city and kill hundreds of people because they were bored xD. Like literally it wouldn't kick you cause you didn't directly poison the civilians and they would walk over the poisoned corpses and get poisoned so basically you end up with infinite slaughter muhahahahahahahaha

It's fun to travel and create your own adventure, not the story line. It's primitive, dumb, cliche, boring and repetitive. Dialogues are atrocious, side quests are all the same - go from point A to point B and kill someone or bring something or someone. And there is no RPG elements at all: there is little to none interaction with the world and your skill points spent will get you to the same one build as you can't play different way that is more efficient.
