As a Greyhound owner, I was actually shocked by this and I've watched a lot of Victoria's videos. Looked like a completely different breed. Just goes to show the root of 99.9% of behaviour problems are squarely the fault of the owners. It's reprehensible to not recognize your own shortcomings at the cost of your dog's wellbeing. Very happy to see they were willing to come around. Now they get to enjoy the hands-down best bit about owning a Greyhound - watching them run for fun! (and witnessing other people's reactions to it)

Un real........... We had a street Lurcher puppy stray.....never lived indoors.. Within two weeks she was completely housetrained {and only one poo indoors, the first night}...it takes an effort to train any dog... Setting an alarm throughout the night to take her into the garden for a wee. using a 'trigger word'..so she knew outdoors was for elimination. Exercise...they need lots {or Lurchers do}...they definitely need recall training and freedom to gallop. Getting two puppies at the same time is daft. Always an owner problem.

@@BeyondEcho95 True, and it's harder if they haven't been taught to do it when they were puppies. When I had dogs (one I got when I was 13, the other one is my ex's) I kept them off leash as much as I could when they were pups - only in places it was safe of course. They got used to following me and never ran off from me, accept if they saw a hare etc. I noticed the first one started to be a bit too solo on our walks in a trail, so I hid in the forest near the trail as she had gone somewhere. Soon she appeared on the trail where I had just been and looked for me frantically. After that she was more careful with how far she went from me. This might not works as well with adult dogs, or with a breed that is particularly independent, but my semi-independent pup did learn her lesson.

Mine never wanted to go on long walks (only in the forest bc of all the sniffs), 30 minutes twice a day and he was so done he just slept for hours on end... They are very easily trainable with positive reinforcement and still the best large dog for walking beautifully on a leash, he learned not to pull in a day and I am not a professional trainer...He always walked in my tempo at my side. Crates ..never used them, and have never had an issue house training a dog..nor have my friends.. And we have had rescue dogs too... Often it is the ''owner'' at fault, they don't get the dog into a routine, go outside into the garden WITH a dog while training, or use trigger words or praise. We had a pup who had been ''paper trained'' by his original owner..and that was NOT ideal, as he pooed on a map I had spread on the floor... that did make me laugh though... He looked so pleased! HOWEVER.....taking on a dog who had lived in a chaotic home, rather than a ''street'' dog is possibly harder, as the dog will have learned that it is ''ok'' to poo and pee in the house. Sadly crates can be abused by too many people. :(

Everyone defending the guy in responses, remember he's a full grown man. A person being criticised for not being good enough then just not responding and acting like a petulant child is extremely toxic in the long run. He would need to put his foot down and seek ways to improve and shut down the partner when she herself is not doing things properly. It's called a collaboration, you can't just lay back and complain that your partner is being mean.

What disturbs me is that every greyhound breeder/trainer knows that the pups are absolute hooligans and quite unlike the laid-back gentle souls they are as adults. Who on earth thought it a good idea to hand a pair of greyhound puppies over to a couple who are obviously not at all dog-savvy? Puppies are hard work. Two puppies are doubly hard, especially littermates. Two greyhound puppies ... well, they're not called 'land sharks' for nothing. They're always on the go, always looking for food or trouble or both, they're very strong, muscular dogs, and they need an experienced hand - or at least a fairly competent novice who's willing to learn & put the work in. I'm so glad they got some help with these two lovely sisters. (Yes, I'm an experienced greyhound owner. No, I don't want a greyhound puppy! :D)
