Simon, just cannot catch a break. I love the randomness and also the fact that a single person/character, means you can indulge in any kind of deviation. Things like your orc friend getting food poisoning, or getting a broken ankle and having to backtrack, then worrying about food. With a party of players/characters they are often funneled into combat, or towards exploration, or dramatic social encounters... You have the luxury of exploring Simon alone and hungry in a cabin and the struggle of being alone in the wild. I love it.

I'm watching this (for the first time, late to the party I know) and I hear Trevor mention the Enemy Mine movie, which isn't a movie that gets mentioned very often. What makes it chilling, is that this was also the day that I read Louis Gossett Jr had died (a few days ago) who plays the alien in that movie. What a strange coincidence - made me stop the video for a few seconds. RIP Louis. (Sorry for this tangent. Now back to Simon and his bad luck adventures.)

One thing to keep in mind is that when using the Mythic GM Emulator, you have Favor Points, which are a meta-currency that you can spend to adjust your fate rolls on a 1-point per 1% basis after the roll in whichever way you see fit, so that you're not completely at the mercy of the die rolls.
@MeMyselfandDieRPG5 жыл бұрын
I'm using the first printing (I think) - no Favor Points in it. That must be a later addition. In any event, I actually enjoy letting the probabilities dictate the story. Sucker for punishment, I guess!

First time I've seen the Savage Words system in action, it seems distressingly random with that exploding die mechanic.
@devonsmith9519 Жыл бұрын
Exploding Die are relics from older systems where the only readily available dice were D6s. They CAN work, if they are built with the other mechanics in mind, but short of that. Often feel very much like you describe; distressingly random. Often times along with the exploding die mechanic working in a upward direction, there were many systems that did it in reverse as well. Where rolling the minimum, had you roll again and take that result off your total result against the Difficulty Check. The shape of the dice also influences the mechanic heavily, and D6 are not the best choices in that regard. There is also the fact that his rolls are just absolutely poor. The dice gods certainly so not favor Simon.
@kerravon4159 Жыл бұрын
@@devonsmith9519 I actually quite like the idea of the probabilities being completely open-ended so that say even a novice swordsman stands *some* tiny chance of defeating an expert swordsman. As long as die probabilities dictate that the expert swordsman wins most of the time. But If novice vs expert is mostly just a coin-toss every time, then IMO that's a good example of a completely broken game system. I dont really have enough experience with Savage Worlds to definitively make that call, but looking at this game-play, it seems like the lower your skill, the more chance of your dice exploding, so that's a definite worry right there.
