I remember when I was growing up, we found 2 kittens. We kept them for a couple of months, but one of them was normal with a slight mean streak and the other seemed to have mental issues. The normal one would give us the killer look, but never attacked us. At night, she would just walk up and down on us while we slept in our beds like she was prowling and protecting us. We were just kids then. We always had cats, but they were different and we never knew what type of kittens we had gotten. They were loyal and liked to play along with cuddles, but we had to get rid of them because they would not use the litter box no matter how hard we tried. I’m looking at this video, and the Savannah cats look exactly like them and I am certain they were Savannah. Same spots, slender bodies, and big in size for cats under a year old.

Love the name that they are called… but that has nothing to do with it. In a lot of the states they are illegal to have it is because they say they do a lot of damage to the Bird population. They are SPECIALISTS on both Birds and Mice. They require you to have your LICENSE. Having your LICENSE is for a REASON. They are NOT a Domestic Cat. Some are even not allowed to be where people have their License. It’s kind of stupid if you get your License and are going to go through what is all involved in getting it. Part of getting your license is spending your required amount of time with them… learning THEIR behaviors… knowing what’s actually involved in having these Cats and HOW THEY ARE DIFFERENT than Domestic Cat. Yes… every version of Cat are Cat Behavior that is Universal to ALL… but their are their own behavior that is exclusive to the Species. For example to what these Cats SPECIALIZE IN. Things like that. Without the EXPERIENCE… You should not even THINK about trying to get one. That’s why they are illegal in places. Even with the people that want to get their Licenses. Also… These Cats take Obligate Carnivore to the Big Cat Level. With these Cats… the Big Cat Safety Rules… MUST BE FOLLOWED. Reading their Body Language in SECONDS is also a MUST. I could get my license EASILY… but Why? The Serengeti is the Look Alike for the Serval. It is Domestic. The Pixie Bob is the Look Alike for the Bobcat. A lot of these beautiful cats ends up living in misery when the owners realizes that they can't handle the destruction that comes with Savannah cat. They are wild and needs a lot more care than people understand what comes to feeding them example. They do not thrive with cat food, they need raw food diet that comes expensivie pretty fast. It how far Mondo got in few days shows how much these cats needs space to move around. Their living space should not be one room or small cage. They need space to get that exercise. If you do clips like this you should also bring out the negatives that comes with owning cat like this. How they are bread example. It is not without problems. With cute videos you end up selling idea from owning cat like this for people that don't know what they are getting into and result will be suffering for everyone but mostly for the animals that are forced to take part to this. Seriously disappointed that Discovery takes part to things like this.
@kerrymti11514 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing. Even 'cat daddy', has had a few episodes with them and he downplays anyone getting one for a family pet because they are essentially a wild animal and need things a normal family cannot provide. I think it is irresponsible for Discovery to have this clip glamorizing them and saying they are a great family pet...pounds will not keep them.
@mataharii1614 жыл бұрын
Cats with wild blood desperately need to be let loose. I rescued a half-wild cat from a shelter once, and he loved to be outside. However, he always came back in, mainly because he knew he could come back out. A lot of owners don't let their cats out for fear of their deaths, but the cats would rather live 1 year outside than 12 years in.
@The_Keeper4 жыл бұрын
Mondo didn't actually go that far in that week. An adult male cat can, and will often, travel up to 20 miles per day to find a mate. That is one of the reasons that spaying keeps them safer, they just don't feel the need to travel as much. Basically, Mondo just went on a short walk-about. He was just checking out the neighborhood.

Savannah's aren't $20,000... They're anywhere from $500 for an F5 and $2000-$7000 for an F1 or F2. They're fully domesticated and the USDA and science defines them as such so there's not even an argument there as to if they are or not. I also found it humorous that some states ban them because they're worried they'll escape and harm the ecosystem when normal domesticated cats of every breed already do that, killing millions of birds and native wildlife every year. Yet no state will place a ban on normal cats LOL. The discrimination against savannahs is insane.

"Savannahs are low maintenance"? Alright, this whole "Cats 101" on Savannahs is complete bullshit. They require A LOT of maintenance. How do you think it run off and went 12 miles away? Every cat, and pet really, requires maintenance, but depending on the breed they might be more social, or might need more interaction, or might just have more energy in general so you'll have to play with them more often, and spend more time with them unless you want them ruining your whole house. Savannah cats are REALLY HIGH maintenance. They are still pretty wild. Having a scratching post around the house isn't going to cut it. They have a lot of energy, which is why having a sort of wheel (like hamster wheels but much larger, for cats) is recommended with Savannah cats, as well as with Bengal cats (which also happens to be a breed with a wild cat). You're going to need to play with them constantly, and spend a ton of time with them, if you don't want a ton of issues down the road. So no, they aren't just "twice the cat" in size, they are also twice the cat in energy, so far from "low maintenance".
@oligilliganrobloxminecraft79533 жыл бұрын
People glamorize this cat so much, the only reason people get it is because of it having longer legs and spots, and use it for views on Instagram and TikTok
@mouhitorinoboku96556 жыл бұрын
should also include that they need taurine added into their diet and need grain free or preferably raw food. also they suffer from bone density issues when they aren't given enough calcium and taurine by their diet, and sometimes they have heart issues from what I've read, so 'no health problems' is bull shit, I even seem to remember cancer rates being very high if their fixed before a certain age. do your research and don't trust videos like these. If you can deal with the things above plus their hyperactive tendencies, destructive behavior, and loud nature, look into rescues for this breed -plenty of people have thought they could do it, realized they couldn't, and dumped their 20K cat, please don't add to the no.

They also have small livers compared to the rest of their body and some kinds of anesthesia can be deadly to them, if you get one you need to make sure you find a vet that is experienced in caring for them.

Savannahs live longer then your average domestic and have fewer health issues. Dietary needs are met with any ( high quality) soft and wet cat food mixture. Alot of dietary issues arise from savannahs due to people making their door and not doing their homework on a balanced diet and not genetics nor any lacks of (quality) cat food. Fuck rescues, there is no point in paying money for a cat from a rescue shelter that is going to force you to neuter or spay via a binding contract agreement when you go to adopt. Most rescues these shelters get these cats from off the street, and that is exactly where I get all my cats--FREE OF CHARGE AND CLEAR OF BEING FIXED! Not to mention I don't have to jump through hoops and pay fees to a stupid rescue whose sole goal is to make profits off doing what I can obtain for literally free of charge in my own literally anywhere in the country.
@katrinawright99437 жыл бұрын
Nuclear Armament why is spaying/neutering such a big problem? I know it isnt free sometimes but it's a way to at least try to make sure the feral population stays down. Cats seem to be healthier when they're fixed and they don't feel the need to roam around to find a mate. Everything else you said had good points (rescues have quite a lot of hoops to go through to adopt an animal) but fixing seems a reasonable enough request.....
@jennilocke6 жыл бұрын
Nuclear Armament spaying or neutering your pet is part of being a responsible pet owner. If you can't fully provide for the animal, you should not have any pets at all. It's the same as getting them vaccinated; getting them fixed will help them live longer and happier lives.

@@AbsentWithoutLeaving You couldn't be further from the truth. She was a starving street kitten with a B&W mother who who came every morning to my door begging for food. One day she started coming alone as it was possible the mother cat had been killed by the municipal cat-catchers, then I had to take her in. The only money I paid was for an import licence and air fare when I brought her back to Britain and then six months quarantine. Apart from being blind in one eye, her face was almost identical to the cat in this vid but the spots on her flanks were a little less distinct. While she was young she had a remarkable ability to jump a six-foot fence and she had an amazing tree-climbing ability. I am sure she must have been fathered by an Arabian desert cat or a Cerval.

Most likely that cat was roaming around much longer distances during the period it was free, feeding on birds and other people's small pets (and children😉), and was simply randomly captured 12 miles away from his original prison. Yet the brilliant humans excitedly concluded that the cat managed to travel an "astonishing" 12 miles away from their home. 🤷♂️

Courtney Earnhart Getting a kitten is not roulette. Their behaviour as a kitten will pretty much stick with them into adulthood. You can still influence it's behaviour when it is growing up though. You are the primary provider for the cat and it's alpha, so they will still listen to you if you know how to train a cat. Most pet stores get rescue cats and dogs because there are too many for shelters to keep all of them. The only animals you will really find that are not rescued would be anything that lives in a cage or tank for the majority of its life.
@malcolmroberts1276 жыл бұрын

My mom has a silver F1 savannah. Absolutely amazing animal but they do not like to be handled like regular cats. Because they are a hybrid breed, they are confused. They don't know if they are wild or domestic so their personalities can be strange at times.
