Not really. Beef, lamb, goat are range fed. Beef generally from 18-22 months. It’s only when they are shipped to market that they spend time in feedlots and are fed grain based and silage with possible additives. Unfortunately the big packers operate 80% of the businesses and usda oversees them. Didn’t used to be that way. More regional packers and there was state oversight. Big govt has screwed that up over the past 70 years by instituting their nationwide oversight and control. Chicken, turkey and pork often say “antibiotic free and vegetarian fed”. Even the organic fed ones, as well… in other words, the feed has been raised organically. Well, I’ve raised chickens and turkeys and friends have raised pigs. I’ve never known any of them to have a preference on feed if allowed to pasture anywhere. Chickens and turkeys can defoliate an area of greenery in short order if not moved around. Pigs will do the same and root up vegetation as well. So, unless you buy “pasture raised” C,T, and Pork, it’s rather pointless to be too concerned about feed. The feed they are given is “unnatural” and it creates an animal with higher omega 6 in its meat … then we consume it. Stay with ruminant meats and birds and pork only occasionally if you’re eating conventional raised meat. Go check out Peter Ballersteadt on ruminant agricultural practices.

Dr Lustig, there might be some hope for you/us regarding payments for insulin levels? I’m a pediatrician seeing lots of Medicaid kids in rural OK…I rarely order fasting insulins (on morbidly obese usually) b/c I never understood until now how critical/useful those levels are (I saw their value to confirm insulin resistance once, but not to track disease severity; I use A1Cs for that), but the handful of times yearly when I did order them, Medicaid has paid without any complaints. OK Medicaid’s coverage for kids might be a very different animal though compared to other states, since a successful class-action suit by the state’s pediatricians around 1995 challenging measly physician compensation has resulted in much better reimbursement in pediatrics generally. Thanks for educating us all…you’re second to none!🤗

I get a bit annoyed by questions of the kind "what's the fruit that will cause the least damage?" In a society that consumes copious amounts of sugar and equal amounts of all sorts of artificial semi-foods, just eat any whole fruit every time you crave a chocolate bar, and that's going to make a massive difference. Fruits are natural food, real food. Unless you decide to live on fruit alone, which is extremely unlikely, they're not going to damage you.
@frusia1235 ай бұрын
@FreeSpeechisMyRight10 I think it stems from the smoke screen created by the sugar industry that we eat "sugar" all the time since time immemorial, and that "sugar" in fruit is equally bad as table sugar, so table sugar cannot be that bad. Truth is that if you already have diabetes then yes, you will have to be careful with the amount of fruit you consume, but if you're not diabetic, then fruit is the least of your dietary problems.

While I super appreciate his study and think that he is spot on, on so many things❤, two things I would add.. artificial sweeteners are just as bad as sugar because of some of the properties. With aspartame, chemicals in it eat away at the nerve endings and are especially detrimental to those with a predisposition to MS, and there are links to seizures and brain cancer.. definitely agree about the damage to gut flora by other sweeteners. Also, as far as organic fruits.. it's not only pesticides coating or absorbed through their skin, but those pesticides are in the soil from repeated spraying, and soaked up into the fruits and vegetables as they are growing. Blessings!

I would like to see the science or physics on that concept. I used a high speed blender and still have a pulp that is very thick after cooling in the refrigerator. I use dried fruits: 4 prunes, 2 aprcots, 2 dates, 1 fig. My blood sugar is still under 7%. I should be spiking? I think its interesting I can buy Monch Monch or what ever it's called. But Metamucil that plant-based psyllium husk, chewed nuts, bran additives like oat, wheat or flax are not suggested in a supplement for low fiber fruits? I add ground coconut, cinnamon and flax to my cut oatmeal. I been doing this for a decade. And stopped using Metformin a decade ago. Keeping blood sugar at 6-6.8%. He should add exercise to the mix. Even at 250# I exercise 2 hrs a day on a recumbent bike and walk. Nothing works if you don't exercise. My sister same problems never exercised. Jested about me riding my bike as kid til now. She has drank alcohol and been dead since she was 54. My uncle same problems plus alcohol. Dead since age 50. Alchol is a big killer even in moderation what ever that is? No human could chew their bites 100 times; there'd be nothing left to chew well before 100 chews. The body swallows when it needs to swallow, or it spits it out. One could override the instinct but it wouldn't be healthy. There are studies out there on overchewing food. It's not at all surprising to know that obliterating fiber would have an effect on the body in terms of metabolic health. You mentioned the pulp in the fridge - so you are still consuming the fiber? Nut fiber is very different from fruit fiber. Nuts contain polyunsaturated fats which can be hard on the body for those dealing with health issues. Grain fiber and fruit fiber are different too, even if you only consider gluten. Sorry about your family losses.

I think that adopting a 36 or 48 hr fast weekly on top of your carnivore diet can be extremely helpful to lose weight. Plus have time restricted eating the rest of the days and not do any snacking. Dr Jason Fung's The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code are excellent guides about this. Having these fasts just a couple of days a week helps to reduce the insulin and overall energy without tanking the metabolism that happens when people keep the same fasting window everyday
@stefanweilhartner44157 ай бұрын
@@nataliajimenez1870 the science behind dr. fungs claims is pretty flawed. the mechanism regarding the damaged metabolism is not understood from his explanation. the same thing with snacking. there is a huge difference, if you take a bite of pizza or butter. snacking is a very unscientific term and reducing food to just calories is completely flawed. he does not present mechanistic explanations but just probabilities regarding an outcome. on the other side there are other people in the carnivore space who differentiate food regarding their macros and their effects on hormones. this leads to new knowledge about the involvement of cortisol in damaging the metabolism. eating butter before going to bed and directly after getting up in the morning reduces cortisol while eating a meal with carbohydrates and protein or fasting can increase cortisol. both have different outcomes regarding long term effects on the metabolism. this is something that dr. fung does not differentiate. he is about 5 years behind when it comes to mechanistic explanations and just leans on average outcomes. an while studies about average outcomes are interesting, it is much more interesting where deviation from an average outcome is coming from because a single person is not average and a single snak is also not average but individual.

Doesn’t maceration grind up the fiber just like a vitamix??? What is the difference? What you’re saying is basically when you blend fruits for a young child/baby or an old patient who can’t chew, you’re ruining it and they are not getting the fiber benefit. I submit that chewing fruit does the same thing. I would really apprectiate and answer.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit of sugar-addict. If I were an alcoholic I'd dump the booze down the toilet, and those around me would be happy not to reintroduce alcohol into the household until I developed the self-discipline to not drink it all. However, it's not that easy with sugar. It's everywhere.
@katkameo64135 ай бұрын
You just stop.Eat an apple with cheese or peanut butter, berries with cottage cheese, etc. it takes the edge off of the craving and then you just have to deal with the psychological part of it. You are right it is everywhere. In the US it's a social issue as it's extremely hard to avoid, people are constantly offering it and celebrating with it. Best of luck.

I have not eaten a plant since June 28 when I became carnivore. I have a question for Dr. Lustig: What food causes the diseases ulcerative colitis, IBS, Chrohn's disease and diverticulosis? It's been my understanding that fiber irritates the intestines and causes these horrific diseases.

By avoiding beef, pork, lamb, goat, and minimizing fish and chicken, while increasing beans and salad, my GERD and IBS issues are minimized and my weight stays down. Once I introduce more and more animal protein, I begin to bleed in my stool and bloat out. Since everyone has their unique microbiome in their gut, it's best to individually create a diet specific to themselves. Besides, to go on an elimination diet, which most people are doing on carnivore diet, highlights there was something in the diet which was causing issues. Carnivore diet is not the "magic pill" to better health for every single human being. There is nothing more compelling in propaganda as a personal story. Just like your personal story, mine goes back to 2001 reading medical research papers to gather health information to help veterans get their benefits. By 2009, led me to human longevity research, and people like Dr. Lustig, Dr. Patrick, and Dr. Gregor. I did elimination diet using mixed nuts and water and found that animal products are something my gut did not prefer. I find it humorous that many people on carnivore sound like vegans, pushing their personal story as fact of how everyone should live. Again, everyone is unique and needs to discover their own path in life, which includes a diet which works for them.
