The crazy thing about there videos, is the guitarist Adam Jones made them all. Adam did special effects for movies, before the band formed. He made some of the dinosaurs used in the original Jurassic Park.

adam was a stan winston alum. quit a job at highest tiers of special effects working with legends of the industry ...to start a band. (maynard's "quit x ...to start band y" adventure is equally insane)

The entire song is about communication, whether it be us as a species or a relationship. We are quick to blame the other instead of trying to work together in fixing or rebuilding what has been destroyed. We are cynical, arrogant, and ignorant which is assisting in our own demise. Best way to understand this song, imagine it's talking about two lovers, then read the lyrics, it'll click in your head. Then watch the video or listen to the song again, and it'll all make sense. Tool is very subliminal yet very straight forward, it's a beautiful art form

Again I'll add Adam was one of the vfx artists on Terminator 2. He also creates the videos from TOOL.

Yeah, this is a typical Tool video. I love Tool and I find their videos to be very creative and interesting, but I don't watch them too often. I will say the the Sober video will always have a special place in my heart because that is how I discovered them. That whole thing is a big "WTF" as well.

It's a surrealistic approach of the lyrics or the theme. Adam is very influenced by surrealism.

Yup saw them October 2001. Unfortunately it was an outdoor arena that I am not a fan of. I enjoyed the 2nd leg of the tour when I saw them indoors with Meshuggah. Probably my favorite live show ever. And what awesome is someonr recorded like half of it. So I get to relive it and enjoy it right here in KZbin. 🤗

That popcorn comment made me laugh. : ) I needed that after Tool's video. I was introduced to Tool through their videos. Adam's videos. I was immediately turned off, and decided that I didn't like Tool. Adam's videos don't make my brain feel good, or my guts. And, I'm a big horror movie fan. He's extremely talented, and has done work in movies, and a bunch of other stuff. But, I just can't enjoy the videos he's done for Tool. That's ok. I finally got into Tool, just listening. And, then saw them in concert for the first time, in 2003. I was hooked. Have Happy Halloween! 🎃

This was how I really discovered them. And after watching this video for 20 years I realize it's basically just a (weird) illustration of the lyrics.
@keysersose67282 жыл бұрын
Hear me out on this, because it's kind of an agreement, but I think the video is a representation of the music (even without the lyrics), to which the lyrics are also a representation of, if that makes sense. That's the similarity, yet they are both illustrating the music in their own way.

You should check out the Sober, Prison Sex, and Stinkfist videos. Adam Jones, the lead guitarist, was originally a special effects artist for movies so they used his expertise in their videos. As far as the bass line comment, my favorite is H. You should react to that song. That’s also my favorite Tool song.

As a member of the TOOL Army I am forced to say something against the grain ... I love their visual effects, especially at concerts, but I have never put up with their videos. They are well made, but also all extremely similar to each other, disturbing and dark. In addition, many attribute to them a very deep meaning, but when everyone gives them their own meaning, it is likely that the video does not really have its own.

You've been reacting to tool for a long enough so it's appropriate to let you know that all ALL official tool music videos are essentially troll videos that have barely anything to do with the song. They solely exist to distract the listener. Close your eyes, and pay attention to the instruments & the lyrics.
