Glad he talked about the mental side of bodybuilding prep that not many people touch on. Its easy to see a bodybuilder’s physique and think oh it’s just the steroids but the mental side it takes to be at that level is insane.

Bodybuilding is clearly a mental game, more so than I ever realized. Mind over matter, in its purest form.

Bodybuilding is probably the least mental “sport” out there. I’m not hating, it definitely takes incredible discipline. But you’re not doing live competition like actual sports. It’s not even close to the mental fortitude required to compete with actual opponents like in regular sports.
@saint_ofc
@saint_ofc 8 сағат бұрын
@@thesandman1384 Bodybuilding is absolutely a mental game-arguably more than most sports. The competition is primarily against yourself, and that makes it even tougher. There’s no team to pick up the slack if you’re having an off day, no opponent to blame for a loss. It’s just you, pushing your limits day in and day out. The physical training is only part of the challenge. The real test is in the daily discipline, the unwavering dedication to your diet, your sleep, your recovery-all of it, 24 hours a day. While other sports have defined seasons and breaks, bodybuilding demands a lifestyle commitment that never really stops. It’s a constant battle with your own willpower, and that takes an insane amount of mental strength.

@@thesandman1384 "Incredible discipline" that's 100% mental, discipline is coming from saying NO, over and over again to things we love and enjoy, at some point your mind is changed so bad, that's your starting enjoying the pain it comes with it.

ive seen how cbum trains. and its the way I train as well, which is basically sticking to the most basic movements. Why? because those work the best. You see all these fancy exercices people do these days which dont give you any added benefit to the muscle you're training, in many cases even the contrairy. All these acrobatic fancy BS training methods and exercices are just out there to impress people and to give them the illusion that they're going to build more muscle. just stick to the basics and train hard. its all about the muscle contraction, not the exercice
@fVNzO
@fVNzO 8 сағат бұрын
I mean CBUM uses quite a lot of machines which absolutely is considered fancy and not the most basic movements. If you train exactly like him you're already a little science pilled and obviously care mostly about getting bigger rather than stronger. You don't see CBUM whip out all the big compounds. He hasn't done that for years and years (smartly off course).

Absolutely not, work ethic and mental fortitude plays an incredible role in prep. And you have to be smart with injury reduction, exercise selection, overload levels, rep and set ranges, etc... theres a lot more that goes into it than that.

From a videogame balancing perspective, bodybuilding as a sport kinda sucks. It's not balanced. You are born into a body and there isn't enough control for a elite level competition to be anything more than RNG. The only reason bodybuilding has any skill expression is because it's the early parts of the sport where heart, grit and determination matter. Once the meta has been figured out, it'll mostly be about genetics. Compare bodybuilding to MMA where the sheer length and bredth of the tactical and strategical options mean that skill expression is gigantic and any natural talent can be easily overcome with tactical and strategical skill.
