When I was little my music teacher one time was talking about being in Food Emporium in NYC and how they'd play the song over and over in the place to the point where he remembered it enough to play and sing it on piano for us and I just thought of it now for some reason and looked it up and found this vid and this cover of it is killer and I'm not going to use any punctuation in this comment but good vid

Exquisite! Thanks for posting with the amazing visuals. I recorded this song on cassette when Brooklyn Dave the Spazz played it on his radio show from Bpt U in 1987 or 88. When we was kids, my pals and I used to walk through the woods and cross the Post Road to hang at the Food Emporium in Westport (even going back to the early 70s, when it was 'Shopwell'). Got kicked out many times. We used to race the shopping carts through the parking lot on Sundays when it was closed ( CT 'blue laws'!). Shopped there once barefoot, carrying the family cat. And in the 90s, my brother and I took Simon Townsend there, where he bought some cheap shades...Indeed, "someone's made a store that's just for me"! Fantastic song, made even better with the commercial! Thanks for the mems!

Thanks for sharing those. Glad to have brought them back ! The way I finally got the song back was to find an archive of a WFMU show online, I downloaded it and grabbed the song from it. As for the edit...thank you for the compliment. It was actually pretty easy. The video was 30 sec. The song, 1:30. I just looped it 3 times for a perfect fit. The song is so true to the ad, that it just fit !

Thanks for putting this up. I saw a tape of them lipsyncing this on some public access show, and that song has haunted me ever since. Love the visuals.

Best part is ... all I did was apply the song to the original video commercial ! Glad people are finding this!

I just had the idea the other day to do (not that I can play guitar well enough or have a band) a rock version of this song, and now today, on the archive of Suzy Hotrod's WFMU show, I hear this. I'll take it to mean great minds think alike.

This is amazing. Thank you. I worked there in the early 90s when I was in high school.

I take it the original video has been pulled from KZbin? I see this particular upload has been up for eight years, but there was a video on this platform for this song, and it did use clips from the commercial, but in between, there were shots of the band. Now, I can not find it!

Wow I had never seen the original video. I'd love to find that as well. I just had the idea one day to try to put it to a commercial and hadn't realized it would fit almost perfectly until I tried.

@@boblarson9994 Well, I, for one, appreciate you doing what you have done there, Mr. Multi-accounts! I had a Food 4 Less in my home town, which I wrote a short jingle for pure entertainment, relating the name of the grocery store to stealing, as if the store was built for thieves. I had decided once I was in a band, I would take that little ditty, and use it as the chorus, and write an entire punk song around it. One thing I remember about that place, besides being ghetto in appearance, was their shopping carts being significantly larger than standard size, as if their killer deals coupled with the extra room in the shopping cart would encourage customers to purchase more.

@@ThinkerOnTheBusI don't even know what that account is I know Google keeps trying to have me use my Google account instead of this on KZbin but I've never seen that account😂
