+vimlopop That bit slid past kind of quick, but I think the idea was this: Tom put a package with a cellphone and a note with instructions and the script into Tim's mailbox. The (somewhat fragile, but adequate) technology was set up so that when Tim called the phone number in the note at the time required by the note, he heard some timey-wimey sounds, and spoke the message from the provided script. Of course this made sense to Tim, since he had already heard the words a few weeks earlier and expected to be saying them at some point in the future.

I knew my voice double in college, he went by Brent. So we did our own voice prank. For a party we switched phones and at some point when Brent was talking to a friend of his, I called that friend from Brent's phone. I said: "The person you are talking to is not me. I know he looks like me but don't trust him." The hung up. Freaked the friend out a little(he was a bit tipsy) and we ended up explaining the prank. Though I kind of wondered what would happen if we hadn't told the friend and just let him interact for a week with not-Brent.

Reminds me of an opportunistic prank I did in college. A friend (whose name I no longer remember) had ended up with two girlfriends... and had just broken up with the long-distance one. In the local newspaper was this "Love is..." cartoon (Google it) and right about then it featured "Love is... narrowing it down to one" with the boy ripping pages out of his address book. I clipped that and stuffed it in my friend's mailbox. I happened to be there when he opened his mailbox and feigned like I had never seen it before.... good thing, too, because he was livid. A few weeks later, I was in his room and saw the cartoon pinned on his bulletin board and said something like "I see you got the cartoon I put in your mailbox.." "Oh, that was YOU? I asked everybody who put it there!" Feint successful. By that time, he had calmed down and loved it.

Would have been great to set it up such that, if he called again, it would do timey-wimey things, say he was calling himself in the future, play a recording of him answering the phone, record the call, and cut off as soon as he stopped talking. Then, in the future, call back (blocked number) and play the recording after he answers. That part would obviously be trivial to do without any weird tech, but in the context of calling a special number with a special phone you've already used to call the past successfully but pointlessly... Alternatively, if you call back, it tells you you're calling Tim in the past at the time of the original call, but you get a busy signal, because Tim on April 23rd obviously can't answer more than one call at the exact same time, and he's answering the call from Tim on May 15th.
