@nonstopnate.4 ай бұрын
2:35 Touching again on the pure spectacle that is Gael, I find it so poetic that your first confrontation in DS1 is a Hollow with a broken sword, just for the final boss of the series to be a Hollow with a broken sword.

I remember back when the DLC was released, Midir was considered the probably hardest boss fight so far features in a Souls-like. The first attempts are incredibly difficult and crushing, especially when you're unaware, that you're supposed to focus on his head. But looking back I feel like all that difficulty was somewhat overblown. He is one of the hardest bosses to face at your first try, but he is incredibly telegraphed, perfectly consistent with his hit boxes and he still gives you room to breathe inbetween combos. One of my favorite fights in any Soulslike til this day, and by far the best dragon. Love him.

I adore Elden Ring, and Bloodborne is my favourite game ever made, but The Ringed City is the peak of Fromsoft design. World design, looping levels, a million incredibly well hidden secrets, the best and most interesting weapons of any of the games, best fashion, and of course, the bosses. Halflight is hit or miss, but at least he's creative, but the rest of the bosses fire on all cylinders. Best duo fight in the Demon Prince, even beating out Orenstien and Smough, Gael being a perfect thematic conclusion to the series, as well as a perfect fight and having its own narrative buitl through just the gameplay, and the grreatest dragon fight of all time. Better than Fatalis and Alatreon, better then Placidusax, better than the Ender Dragon, better than every Dragon Age fight, and honestly one of the greatest boss fights ever in general.

What made Midir stand out as a dragon boss was the fact that it felt like you were fighting an actual dragon - something that would be implemented with all the dragons in Elden Ring. Previously, dragons mostly remained stationary and you just hugged their hind legs and smacked away until they flew up and landed again - with Midir you were greatly punished by doing this. Midir was agile, ferocious and felt "alive". + his OST is one of the best in the Dark Souls-franchise.

I’ve always thought of Midir as an amalgamation of all of the tragic bosses and NPCs we encounter throughout the series, and his theme song as the forlorn elegy of all of them. He is Sif 2.0, he is Manus, Father of the Abyss, and he is a hollow- every mad hollow we ever met, and everyone who ever succumbed to the curse and lost themselves. He is Gwyn, and he is Old Hero; a “great soul” that still gleams with sedimented vestiges of strength and finesse accrued throughout a valiant and steadfast bygone legacy in pursuit of a grand ideal, subordinated now to a blind will that strives on emptily, irrespective of the degradation and ultimate loss of purpose and meaning, and drives the husk that it still commands to flail on senselessly and defiantly until finally put to rest by the player. When I drop down that baleful chute and the song starts up, it always kinda feels like this is From saying, “This is it; this is Dark Souls.” It’s your whole journey, embodied in one being and synthesized into a single conflict. That’s why he has such a deep well of attacks and fights so madly. That’s why he has so much HP.

Midr was truly terrifying, not just because it was difficult, but also because of the pure spectacle of the fight. There are a few similar fights in Monster Hunter, but nothing has that kind of atmosphere, except for maybe Shara Ishvalda, as that was absolutely nuts, or even Fatalis.
I spent so much time on the PS4 version of DS3 fighting Midir. Not sure if I was on NG1 or +2. I even had to respec and change my build because Magic spells or moonlight greatsword was not cutting it. Had to use the washing pole katana with lightning damage to have a better chance of winning. The fight took me 7 minutes. Not gonna lie, the boss was a test of skill and patience. Glad I got to experience Midir. I’m not fighting him again.
@NerdOracle5 ай бұрын
Appreciation for Midir's fight, despite design decisions that some would proudly declare to be shortcomings, is in my opinion parallel to a child's love for dinosaurs. You have to be in awe of the Dragon. The very idea of a Dragon. To love Midir's encounter. This is because he is the essence of a real and brutal struggle against a mythical monster that is as much a force of nature as it is a ferocious beast. No dragon in all of Souls delivers that feeling as well as Midir. Drakes, Wyverns, Dragons on bridges, decaying dragons, wounded dragons, hollow wyverns, Wyverns that die from one clean hit to head, stationary dragons with predictable attacks, dragons locked in a cage. None of them deliver on the feeling of REALLY FIGHTING a dragon one on one (or one on two, but that hardly matters). Even Sihn and Kalameet suffer from design limitations that may make them more tolerable fights as a whole, but detract from the allure of a true dragon. You might as well be fighting giant birds. Midir is simply *built* *different* And he's built RIGHT

There are many other bosses that feel and are actually harder, but even then, none of them took me as long to beat as Midir, so he'll always have a special place in my heart. Kalameet itself feels harder than him, not to mention some of Sekiro's and Elden Ring bosses (I'm still going through the DLC tho lol).

I'd also like to point out, in almost every area in the Ringed City you can find Midir just, stalking you at a distance. He's also THE last dragon. After killing him, his kind is gone forever. Makes killing him all the more sad.

Midir is such a cool boss, the first time I fought with was with some Randoms I met online n we formed an rpg esk party to beat him. One was a heavy tank one was a mage a d one was a ranger

Midir is an amazing boss fights, and one of the most impressive in all the souls games. Funnily enough, the first time that I encountered him I defeated him second try and underleveled. I went once alone against him and only managed to do like 20% of his life before dying, then the next try I saw the summoning of the NPC and I thought let's try that. The NPC got obliterated in 15 seconds, and I in those 15 seconds I had only dealt 8& of Midir's life at most, like barely noticeable. Obviously I thought I was done for, since we you summon bosses health increases accordingly. But since playing souls games require you to have one simple mindset: "learn while you fail", I did just that. I managed to defeat the boss in that one try. Like I was honestly impressed and my original thought at that time was that the boss is actually really easy, it's simply visually stunning and impressive but one of the easiests fights in the DLC. Subsequent walkthrough of the game have proven that I must had activated ultra instinct or something, because it's a boss that I still struggle by this day when I reach him. I don't struggle that much, but it does give me a hard time.

Bayle definitely did it better, but regardless of how salty some of these comments are, Midir is still a solid second place, he walked so Bayle could run

It was Midir to me. But now he is second to Placidusax. That emp nuke slow-‘mom animation blew my fucking mind. I mean that’s not even mentioning him teleporting all over the fucking place and being beaten to the brink by Bayle

I get why people think he's hard but I don't really think I struggled with him at all. It's to the point now where I can consistently no-hit Midir. His attacks are really telegraphed and you can most definitely go underneath him. But never go for his legs. When he stands up to do his fire attack downwards, walk to his tail. The fire doesn't reach you and it's just a bunch of free hits on his tail. The only attacks that are kinda intimidating are his lasers but unless you stand directly in the path of it, they're pretty easy to avoid.

The only other boss I enjoyed in DS3 as much as Midir was Nameless King. Such great fights - hard, but worth it, and a ton of fun in the end. Worst/hardest was Friede. I never want to fight her again.

First playthrough I did of ring city I somehow beat Midir on my first try. I was running a strength/faith build. Second run through running a dex build I took forever to beat him.
