Mark Twain was in conversation on a sidewalk and was ask by a bystander if he'd like to participate in a debate scredualed to take place. Answered in the affirmative before she finished the sentence. He was then ask if he didn't want to know the subject first. He expounded it didn't matter, as long as he could take the negative side, for it took no preparation.

Not discrediting your work but what about the matching scars on brush bill ,and the facial recognition that was 85 percent the other 15 accounted for aging and dental work.also brush bill said the woman claimed to be his mother was his aunt how would he know all that
@MichaelAnthonyGiudicissi

No discredit taken. There is no photo of Brushy's scars in existence....although there was plenty of opportunity to take one. He claimed 26 knife and bullet wounds but The Kid was only documented to be shot one time. The facial recognition was actually a 93% match so that has to be taken seriously. Sources say the expert who did the comparison left the ears out of the equation. Aging is not supposed to affect these comparisons. Brushy said Catherine was his aunt, but records in Wichita, KS, Santa Fe, NM, and Silver City, NM all document that she had two sons...Henry and Joseph. I hope this helps clear those things up.

I did a study but I'm not on your level on this subject ,there seem to be very few people born with wrists like Billy the kid he had abnormal hands .Brush demonstrated the ability to slip cuffs the same way as his wrists were the same.its very hard to decipher what s real .I guess some things add up but some do not.one time in a parade in brush bills town someone in the crowd yelled hey Billy, brushes reaction as an old man was to twist and grab for z gun that wasn't there it was an old reaction

Oh also did a small study on the dental issue.if you have a large volume of teeth removed it can change bone structure in the jaw ,the jaw will receed upon healing from trauma to bone structure so age might not affect facial comparison but bone loss from dental work can .it sure interesting to see the chano Silva interview

Been fascinated in Billy the Kid since I was a teenager, I personally think that Pat didn’t shoot & kill him I’ve always thought that they conspired between them to say that Pat shot him & shared the reward money, I have my doubts that Brushy Bill was The Kid as much as I would love for this to be the case & he has a lot of coincidental evidence that he was the Kid the story’s & history of Billy have been legendary since the times of the Lincoln County War & there is doubt about Brushy being Billy & if there’s doubts then anyone in their right minds or in a court of law has to say that he wasn’t Billy The Kid, where he went & when he died will be one of those mysteries if we accept the fact that Pat didn’t kill him, I now this subject divides opinions as some say he was a cold blooded killer, but I have always said he was a victim of circumstance & of the time, he killed for revenge mainly or if someone crossed him or someone he knew & I think if we were living back in the old west we would do the same, Sheriff Brady deserved what he got & if the murder case was tried now I think he would be found not guilty as Brady was so corrupt the courts would say he got what was coming to him. As much as I would love to think that Billy is buried in Old Fort Sumner & I will visit the grave when I end up coming to the US Old West visiting the sites of the Old West & Lincoln County I actually think Billy ended up in old Mexico & lived out the rest of his life in relative peace & his grave is somewhere in Mexico yet to be discovered, he maybe a killer & outlaw in the eyes of the law but each one of his kills can be justified apart from James Bell which I think was accidental & ended up being a means to escape as every story of that escape states that he regretted killing Bell but he wanted to kill Bob Olinger as he was a murder & a bully hiding behind his badge. I hope this mystery can be solve but as more time goes by it’s getting harder. Billy The Kid was the US Robin Hood & a legend

I feel the same, I'm not sure on Brushy either. I think the best most undeniable evidence that pat didnt kill him was that Patts daughter said he didn't. If you watch "brushy bill in his own words", he just states the facts of what Brushy said, and what's known in history. He was either the kid, or absolutely had to have been there for the events. Also Sylva did say Brushy was him so idk.

Brush Billy wasn't born yet when William Bonney was alive during his times. The Billy the Kid best friend Jose saw William was killed. After several day later, Jose went to a tree where Billy the Kid hide his revolver in the ground, so Jose went to that tree and dig up, got his revolver out and took it home, then clean up. Jose also had Billy the Kid rife, saddle and other belongings. He sold most of his things. All things had passed on for several years, then the last person who had his belongings and taken to the museum.

I briefly believed Brushy Bill was the Kid for two reasons. 1. I dearly wanted to. 2. The famous movie. I never found any credible evidence to say he was. However... a plethora of evidence to say he wasn't. EVERYTHING I've ever read or heard concerning Pat Garrett failed to impress me much. That in itself leads me to believe he screwed up the kid's ambush too. While I no longer believe Brushy Bill was the kid, I still have high hopes that he escaped to live happily ever after. Having said that, I have my doubts that he survived. Not because of what history has told us, but what it hasn't. I seriously doubt the real Billy could simply vanish. That doesn't match the personality I have in mind for him. Sometimes reality sucks.

To say his story of wanting to go after Garrett after being patched up some isn't rational ignores the gungho attitude, temper and tenacity of everything we know about the real person. And no lawyer would admit to another crime, in the process of the effort involved, regarding the two deputies on his escape. You don't seem to get it. Some things in your past are indelible. Garrett didn't kill the Kid. His daughter said this in 1983. Her Daddy told her this and it was a well known fact among them. Then this, Garrett wouldn't shoot a man in the back. Its an unwritten rule back then. Then like you said in this vid, the facts about how he was buried, killed etc dont make any sense. What was the rush? Why wouldnt Garrett parade the fact he killed the Kid around town? BECAUSE HE DIDN'T. They were friends before Garrett became a lawman. My hunch is Brushy and Garrett were covering for him the entire time, til the time they grew old and died. Brushy was lying 2 protect everyone .He was very loyal. Even if it made himself look bad. It's so hard to figure out this whole thing and take a position. The shooting of BTK by Garrett and the suspicious burial that night, starts the story off with a degree of deception that gives the story of BTK surviving a reason to be believed. On one hand, if you believe that (Brushy) was born in 1879 vs 1859, then he's too young to be BTK. If you look at everything Brushy Bill claims he did after the "death" of BTK, it's too wild and unbelievable. Joined Pinkerton, ran with Poncho Villa, ran with the James gang, was in the Buffalo Bill Wild West show, etc.... Trying to keep from being recognized? Not very believable. But then on the other hand he has such detailed info (for being either 90 or a 70 years old) about so many things that seem to be verified as fact in spite of historic retellings. Yet, his details always seem to pan out as being the accurate version. His version of what he did after the escape from jail was very detailed and his knowledge of the jail layout and where things happened as well as how it had changed from back in the late 1800s was accurate. His route taken to escape including a cave he hid in after the shootout with Garrett and his gang where he claimed that his ex-girlfriend (Cela) helped him get bandaged up was verified as true. Then you have his injuries, 26 markings that match BTK? WTH?

I think that it is not to hard to believe that brushy bill was definitely the kid!! I know there will always be different insights. But brushy bill just gave to many details of being the kid. I think if you Wright a book today, and do not include all the transcripts of brushy bill and Morrison. To let the reader’s decide the truth I don’t think it will be a good book to read. Because the billy the kid story has been told a thousand times, but I believe the most compelling and interesting is brushy bill Robert’s. I just do not believe that brushy bill Robert’s being his age and in the 1940s could have investigated information that was hardly known by anyone except people who were directly involved. Especially by an elderly man. Brushy bill in my opinion is the kid. And he lived out his life without having to look over his shoulder. Because to the population he was already dead. I think that brushy bill aka the kid. Decided in his old age. That he wanted a pardon and that it was important that people know the truth. It is not very hard to believe. But you hard core spectics will always be that because you have and adgenda to sell as many books as possible. But you would sell more if you focused on brushy bill. Sorry for any punctuation or spelling errors I’m typing fast on a small phone.

What I never understand is why they never took a picture of Billy They have DNA from his mom But when it came to Resuming his body Said no They also said there was a flood and it might have washed away his bones Which I don't know if there is or not or if there ever has been a flood in the area But it bushy is really the kid then You would think they would have his DNA test. But it still takes me back to my 1st question they never took a picture of Billy the Kid's dead body which I never understood they did with Jesse James But when it comes to Billy the Kid they refuse To have anything done on Billy the Kid To prove to whose who you would think they would want To put that mystery to rest but who knows.. And it was normal back then to take a picture of notorious Well known outlaws and Billy the Kid was a very big person back in the day not to not take a picture To prove to the world that you did shoot the person.. There's only 2 pictures Billy the Kid that people know of today And supposedly Pat Garrett knew who He looked like so why didn't He take a picture And you can't tell me he didn't have a camera Well notorious Billy the Kid and you shot and killed him and you don't have a camera to put to the world that you actually shot Billy the Kid.. I think that's where everybody is confused I myself believe that Billy got away Whether or not he was blushy bill remains a mystery But I don't think he was that stupid enough to get shot...

Brushy Bill Roberts was Buckshot Roberts because after the Blazers shootout Billy The Kid walks up to the one killed and removes something, then walks to one of the survivors and gives them what was taken off the body. Buckshot Roberts was paid by Tunstill to act as a mole , but he was found out and so the "twins" were sent out so that one could shoot the other and the one that was going to be shot was Buckshot Roberts, who'd been a member of the Lincoln County Regulator was really liked by Billy The Kid (supposedly Billy The Kid and Buckshot Roberts were biological brothers)

This doesnt prove anything, this evidence is totally biased against Brushy Bill, yet he went on to prove he knew much more than anyone else, Friends of Billys confirmed that Brushy Bill was in fact Billy the kid, Hines told Morrison of his experiences in the Lincoln County War with Billy the Kid, who had been killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett on July 14, 1881. Hines stunned Morrison by claiming that the Kid was still alive and living near Hamilton, Texas under the name Ollie P. Roberts (nicknamed Brushy Bill). Morrison then began a correspondence with Roberts, who eventually confessed to being the Kid, and who went into fine and intimate detail of his exploits as an outlaw. He filled in many aspects of the life of Billy the Kid and, furthermore, wanted Morrison's help to acquire the full pardon he had been promised by New Mexico Governor Lew Wallace in 1879 but then had been refused. He showed his ability to slip out of handcuffs, and he also reported that Garrett had actually shot and killed another gunslinger named Billy Barlow and had passed his body off as the Kid's, which had allowed the Kid to vanish and escape to Mexico. Roberts told Morrison that he would agree to tell the whole truth in exchange for the full pardon he had been promised by Wallace following the Lincoln County War. His sudden appearance and request for a pardon had a profound effect on Garrett's descendants. Brushy Bill had been living under the alias of Ollie L. Roberts, and from the time Geneva Pittmon was a little girl, she was told that Brushy Bill was her uncle Ollie. She had never known the truth of his identity because her father, Thomas U. Roberts, had helped to hide Brushy and keep his identity as Billy the Kid secret. In support of his story, Brushy Bill had every scar that Billy the Kid had sported (and more). Morrison also attempted to track down former Evans Gang member Jim McDaniel's, locating him in Round Rock, Texas. McDaniel's, along with Severo Gallegos, Martile Able, Jose Montoya, and Bill and Sam Jones, all of whom had known Billy the Kid, signed affidavits claiming to verify that Roberts was in fact Billy the Kid. The Kid had spoken Spanish fluently and could read and write (his letters to Governor Lew Wallace seeking a pardon still survive), but historians still argue over whether Brushy Bill was even literate. However, when Morrison took Brushy to visit with Severo Gallegos, Brushy spoke with Severo's Mexican neighbor, Josephine Sanchez, in perfect Spanish. Jim Tully signed an affidavit that Brushy could speak Spanish as well as a native. Bob Young, Alton Thorton, W. F. Hafer, Jimmy Ramage, Ablo Norman, Tom Turner, and L. L. Gamble also said Brushy was fluent in Spanish. On the morning of the 29th, as Morrison and Brushy ate breakfast at a Santa Fe diner, Morrison read in a local newspaper that New Mexico governor, Thomas J. Mabry had publicly announced his meeting with a Billy the Kid claimant. Morrison immediately telephoned Mabry, who apologized for making the announcement, but reassured him that the meeting would still be kept private. A few hours later, Brushy and Morrison arrived at Mabry's mansion. Upon entering the conference room, they were shocked at what they saw. Present in the room were several photographers and reporters, armed policemen, Oscar and Jarvis Garrett (Pat's sons), Cliff McKinney (Kip McKinney's son), Arcadio Brady (William Brady's grandson), and historians William Keleher, E. B. Mann, and Will Robinson. In short, the private meeting had developed into a media circus. Badly frightened, Brushy apparently suffered a mild stroke, and when the questioning began, he failed miserably. However, the men asking the questions seemed to treat the affair as something as a joke, some ridiculed him and refused to ask questions while others primarily asked meaningless questions (i.e. how many girlfriends he had, did he enjoy stealing livestock, etc.). He completely forgot basic information about himself and, when asked a question regarding the past of Billy the Kid, he couldn't remember Pat Garrett's name. Stating he felt ill, he was eventually taken to another room to lie down. Shortly thereafter, Governor Mabry made an announcement that he was not going to pardon Brushy, because he did not believe him to be Billy the Kid. Disappointed, Morrison took Brushy to a local doctor, Stan Lloyd, and when he was well enough, he took him home to Hico. In Hico, Brushy was reexamined by Dr. W. F. Hafer and told to get as much rest as possible. In the meantime, Morrison was to continue working on his case. On December 27, 1950, when his wife said she needed to mail a package, Brushy said he would walk it down to the post office. As he walked down the street, Brushy suffered a heart attack. He fell to the ground and died shortly afterwards. Brushy and his story were largely forgotten until the movie Young Guns II depicted him as the narrator of events surrounding the life and times of Billy The Kid and the Lincoln County War. More books were written on the mystery and researchers began exploring whether Brushy’s claim might have actually been true. The debate has raged to this day including several failed attempts to obtain permission for exhumation and DNA testing. Numerous books have also been published since 1950 advancing Brushy's claim, the first of which was Alias Billy the Kid written by Morrison and the renowned western historian C.L. Sonnichsen. This book received mixed reviews at the time but did win support from former President Harry S. Truman who wrote to Morrison indicating he believed that Brushy was Billy the Kid and lamenting that he died before being able to go in front of the next governor, where he may have gotten a more favorable result. In October 2014, new information was published in the book Billy the Kid: An Autobiography, which included military and genealogical records that supported certain aspects of Brushy Bill's story. A new photographic comparison of a young Brushy Bill with the Billy the Kid ferrotype image was included as well as a photo of him serving with the Rough Riders just as he had claimed. In April 2015, media personality Bill O'Reilly weighed in on the topic by publishing his book Bill O'Reilly's Legends and Liars: The Real West in which he suggests that the evidence in favor of Brushy Bill Roberts outweighs the accepted version of history citing the original Alias Billy the Kid book by Morrison and Sonnichsen. O'Reilly followed up his book with an episode on the subject during his national television broadcast depicting the events that occurred during the alleged killing of the Kid from Brushy Bill's perspective. In 2003 Lincoln County Sheriff Tom Sullivan, Capitan, New Mexico Mayor Steve Sederwall, and De Baca County, New Mexico Sheriff Gary Graves began a campaign to exhume the remains of Billy the Kid and his mother, Catherine Antrim, to prove it was in fact Billy the Kid buried in Fort Sumner through DNA. The initiative hit snags from the beginning. First, there is no confirmation as to where the remains are located. Second were the legalities, with both pro-Brushy Bill Roberts and anti-Brushy Bill Roberts experts protesting the exhumation. The exhumation of both sets of remains was blocked in court in September 2004. The Fort Sumner Cemetery where Billy the Kid was said to have been buried was washed out by the Great Pecos River Flood in 1904. The damage was so great that exposed remains had to be reburied with most being unidentified. Billy's headstone had been washed away and his grave remained unmarked for 28 years. Although a headstone was erected in 1932 it is unknown where the original grave was. The Silver City cemetery where Catherine Antrim was buried was sold in 1882 with the new owner required to relocate the graves outside the city limits. There is no record to indicate whether the bodies were moved or just the headstones. It is possible that other people had been buried in the same grave. It is possible that she had been originally buried in an unmarked grave with the headstone placed by guesswork later. Considering the length of time since burial it is likely any remains have decomposed completely and there is a negligible chance of positively identifying remains if any are found. Was Brushy Bill Billy the Kid??, possible, people who knew the Kid identified Brushy Bill Roberts as being Billy the Kid, Yet it seemed like the authorities went to great lengths to discredit anyone who could identify Brushy as Billy, the wounds on his body were in the same places the kid had them, he proved he could speak Spanish, and of course, lets not forget Pat Garratts family, they would want to see anyone who claimed they were Billy the Kid discredited, because if would prove pat Garratt lied about shooting Billy the Kid.

@@MichaelAnthonyGiudicissi Thats a different story to the ones others are telling, it will take more than one person on KZbin to convince many who dont believe the bias others tell, for someone to come up with the idea to pass themselves off as someone like Billy the Kid back then is something near impossible to do, to know the things he did would take Google today, also historians are naturally biased, they set the narrative to the story, and no governor will pardon Billy the Kid back then, the meeting was always a set up. In the fall of 1949, Morrison took Brushy with him to New Mexico for the purpose of having Brushy meet with some surviving acquaintances of Billy the Kid, to see if they could verify or deny his claim. Earlier, Morrison had been given the names Billy’s remaining acquaintances by other respected historians such as Maurice Fulton and William Keleher. While in New Mexico, the pair stopped at sites such as Fort Sumner and Lincoln. In the courthouse in Lincoln, Brushy detailed to Morrison how he, as Billy the Kid, made his famous escape and killed deputies Bob Olinger and James Bell. By the time they had completed their trip and returned to Brushy’s home in Hico, Texas (he had moved from Hamilton in the summer of ‘49), they had managed to meet with Severo Gallegos, Martile Able, Jose Montoya, and Bill and Sam Jones. The first three all signed legal affidavits attesting to the fact that Brushy Bill and Billy the Kid were one and the same and the Jones brothers, although they did not sign affidavits (claiming they didn’t want to get involved in the proceedings) also stated their agreement with this. It has been claimed that Brushy Bill was illiterate, and therefore could not have been Billy the Kid. In truth, Brushy was completely literate. He had several diaries when Morrison found him, he wrote several letters to Morrison and other people, and he had thought for a time to write his autobiography, but later decided not to, fearing the press he might get. Jim Tully, a good friend of Brushy's, signed an affidavit that Brushy was completely literate. Bob Young, Alton Thorton, W. F. Hafer, Jimmy Ramage, Ablo Norman, Tom Turner, and L. L. Gamble, all surviving friends of Brushy, said he was either literate, or not sure, but none of them said he was illiterate. The theory that he was illiterate sprang from a quote C. L. Sonnichsen wrote in his book, that Roberts was "not a literate man." However, Sonnichsen later said he wished he never wrote that because he meant that Brushy wasn't the type of person who would sit around all day reading history books. He meant to say he was not a literary man. It has also been claimed that Brushy could not speak Spanish, whereas Billy the Kid could. However, when Morrison took Brushy to visit with Severo Gallegos, Brushy spoke with Severo's Mexican neighbor, Josephine Sanchez, in perfect Spanish. Jim Tully signed an affidavit that he could speak Spanish as well as a native. Bob Young, Alton Thorton, W. F. Hafer, Jimmy Ramage, Ablo Norman, Tom Turner, and L. L. Gamble also said Brushy was fluent in Spanish. The reason people think he was non-fluent in Spanish is because a myth started that Jarvis Garrett (or Oscar Garrett or Arcadio Brady, depending on which version of the myth you heard) asked Brushy a question in Spanish at the meeting with Gov. Mabry, to which Brushy couldn't respond. This is false. Not one person who was at the meeting ever mentioned this happening. Another false piece of evidence used against Brushy was that he was left-handed, and the Kid right-handed. In fact, both the Kid and Brushy were ambidextrous. According to people who knew them, both Brushy and the Kid could write and shoot just as well with either hand.

Well, Billy was known as a non-smoker and a non-drinker, so it's very possible that he looked younger than is real age.

Seeing how Pat Garrett was writing a book about Billy, don't you think he would take a picture of him with billy's dead body. Everyone else took pictures of there prize kills so as vain as Garrett was riddle me this. Also the to men with Garrett initially stated that it wasn't Billy at first. Only later to retract there first statement and then agree with Garrett that it was billy. Pat Garretts book has been proven to be full of lies. And that's where most if not all billy's so called death comes from. I'm sorry but all your so called proof is usually just opinion. In today's world if this went to court just the scares and facial recognition would be enough to convince the court plus there's written affidavits on his identity. Your trying to use some ear junk science off of a photo that has been tampered with and restored roughly. A court room would laugh you out of the court . So many holes have been blown in Garretts book over time that I think it's far to say that he was delusional with a huge ego. And when you don't see someone for 50 years sure you might not recognize them right away but once you hear them talk and there ticks n habits, stance, laugh, you'll know. Sorry but your case is weak. I'm still laughing on your earlobe theory. Off a old picture that has been touched up and repaired. His ear to me looks more like there was a fold or crease in the original print that has been poorly restored. O and how do you explain the eyes. Unique and identical. That's pretty hard and or impossible to fake.

Even though Pat Garrett's story about Billy the Kid and his death is flawed. Brushy is still a bigger liar than Pat Garrett. The nearest cameraman was probably over 100 miles away. July 1881 Fort Sumner was a very hot and remote area. Camera technology advanced through the years. A lot more people had cameras in 1940s-50 yet there are no pictures of Brushy Bill Roberts 26 knife and bullet scars. There are no pictures of Brushy having a mangled up face for getting shot in the jaw with a 44 caliber pistol. I see no bullet scar on Brushy's bald head. There is no film footage of Brushy breaking out of a pair of handcuffs. No film footage of Brushy being a crack shot shooting quarters in the air with a pistol in each of his hands. Like it or not Pat Garrett was a real Old West Historical Figure where Brushy was just an Old Storyteller.

@@attilathehun0 So. No proof just what you think happened just like everyone else. The kid got his pic taken and many of his friends. But the big famous lawman pat Garrett didn't sent for someone to take a picture of such a big deal a the kids death photo. They had time because they didn't burry him right away. I'm sorry but I don't be live that for a minute.

@@erikbragg6751 They didn't have telephones and helicopters back then. It would take days before a cameraman could take a picture and in that heat the corpse is going to rot. As for proof where's your proof that Brushy was stabbed and shot 26 times and lived to tell the tale? Morrisson made that claim in "Alias Billy the Kid" and yet having a camera he decided to take no pictures for evidence he's just going to vouch for it.🤣🤣

@@erikbragg6751 So never mind that several people who actually new BTK identified Billy's Corpse including his friends such as Jesus Silva and Delvena Maxwell. That don't mean anything, because almost 70 years later an old storyteller claiming to be Billy the Kid is what matters? That so much more believable right?

I'm not saying Brushy is the real Billy. But in my opinion...there is a fifty-fifty chance he could be. And I know that the experts on the subject are always right and never wrong. God forbid that would ever happen. Experts are wrong all the time but will never admit it. And that's why they're experts. Experts my ass! Brushy was supposedly 90 years old at the time of his death. But looked 70. Ok.....I'm 55 and look like I'm in my early to mid fortys. If I didn't know better...I would have thought that Betty White was in her 70"s and not days short of her 100th birthday. Looks can be deceiving. Then there is this disease called old timers. Better known as dementia. It affects your memory. And back in the day...I imagine that it wasn't commonly heard of. Experts aren't always right. But they'll never admit to that. But there is always two sides to the story. And in my opinion I can't rule out with certainty Brushy's claim. Without the DNA...it's nothing but hearsay.
