Jared Goff is good. Nobody would have thought that just 2 years ago, but here we are with the Detroit Lions winning their first playoff game in decades. The Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and head coach Dan Campbell have installed a system that accentuates Goffs strenghts, while limiting his weaknesses (which is MUCH easier said than done). How do they do this? And what is the system they have built? This week’s episode uses the coaches all 22 to analyze Detroit Lions Quarterback Jared Goff.

Any future plans for video on how the Packers offense has changed with Jordan Love vs Aaron Rodgers? I've seen a big difference in the offense and majority of the sports shows all say that Rodgers was holding the offense back.

Hallmarks of great coaching. Develop schemes that play to our personnel's strengths. Hallmarks of weak coaching. This is the scheme we want to run, trying to fit circles into square holes. Then dumping on the personnel when it doesn't work.

Vikings fans were slurping Flores too hard when they realize they got no real talents on defense. Their trench guys can't generate pressure and only Hunter is the real pressure threat. @t4d0W
@t4d0W 4 ай бұрын
If he was 'that good', the Rams would never have traded him. Because he'd have traits that are elite enough to elevate any offense design around him given good weapons around him. Yet Rams traded assets for Stafford and arrived at an SB and won it. As oppose to Goff laying a goose egg against BBs late down pass pressure looks in the SB in 2018. Y'think Mahomes, Allen or Lamar would have changed teams by now if their teams didn't want them around that badly? Because they are that fucking good to pay elite money to build around.

@@EJD339 Yea, as a Lions fan we were biting our claws throughout our wild card game while all other 5 seemed pretty cut and dry heading into the 4th quarter. I know there were scattered injuries affecting a lot of teams, but the Browns, Dolphins, Cowboys, and Eagles who all seemed pretty competent at various times throughout the regular season were all super disappointing. The Steelers were the only real surprise to me at least because I thought the Bills might shut them out. Green Bay put up a fight in the divisional round for sure, but the Texans game was depressing.

Being from Metro Detroit, I'm very concerned with what would happen if that actually comes true. There will be massive riots downtown when all that pent up rage is finally released. Think Vancouver circa 2011, but on the winning side.

I've said this before as a Lions fan. Goff is not Tom Brady for sure. BUT you take any quarterback and boos their confidence it does wonders to a person. Goff is a prime example. Heck, even the likes of Baker Mayfield, Kirk Cousins, and Geno Smith have turned their careers around. Sure, they all have their bad tendencies but in the right system and more importantly, with organizations that believe in you, you can see the difference it makes. I'm proud of Jared and happy to have him. He did what Stafford never did, win us a Division and a playoff game. Much of the thanks goes to Sheila on down to Dan. They publicly support him and surely in private as well. It has helped him grow as a quarterback and I think that has set him up nicely when BJ does inevitably leaves and the next OC comes in. I feel like he will know what he can and cannot do and work with the OC to formulate a winning offensive attack.

The formula is so simple but hard to execute. Give him a good O line so he has time to throw the ball, and build the playbook around what your QB does well. Have those pieces to the formula in place everything else will work it’s self out.

The Lion's O line is nasty on both the pass and run and Goff is good when he has time. When the run game gets going and Goff can start using play action he gets even better. It's an offensive system that's perfectly built for the players. The scary thing is that they can still get better at WR and a decent second receiving TE would be an absolute nightmare for every team.

@@Reilly5 You really don't need a great QB. All you need is great coaching and a front office to get the right players. Just look at San Francisco. They won with Alex Smith, Colin kaepernick and Jimmy G. Mike Nolan and Mike Singletary couldn't win with Alex Smith but Jim Harbaugh made it to the conference championship game with him. He made it to the superbowl with Kapernick and they fire Harbaugh all of a sudden Chip Kelly and Jim Tomsula can't win with a QB who went to the superbowl? Then they hire Shanahan and they start winning with Jimmy G. He gets shipped to Las Vegas and totally flops.
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 4 ай бұрын
You need a great QB to win consistently as the engine of the offense. Coaching and FO are integral to set a high standard for play and identity. But talent helps elevate that scheme. Niners are an outlier since they have the best gang of weapons on offense a regular QB can work with. Shanahan also didn't settle for QB either as him and Lynch agreed to move up that one draft to take a chance on Trey Lance. Thing is Shanahan is smart enough to have a contingency plan with a similar simple QB as a backup who can pilot the offense.

dagger always reminds me of the pick and roll in basketball. its so simple as far as the concept, and pretty simple in execution as well (albeit with dozens of variations), but its still something you can always get better and better at, to the point where even if the defense knows exactly what you are doing, they cant really stop it if you execute well enough. the lions and goff are great at it.

But yes, these other people you mentioned have helped Goff to hone his abilities to be even better. So he's gone from a top 10 QB to a top 3 QB, as long as the OL is at least top 14, which it frequently was that or worse this season. It was only during the games they had all their staring OL that the OL was a top 2-5 OL, which had Goff then be at least top 3 if not top 1 sometimes. It also then had the bottom D be mid D or as high as top 8-12 D, since they finally had the energy to focus on trying to create turnovers instead of on trying to last the length of the game.

Right-I’m a Bills fan and people forget how rough Josh Allen’s first two years were. His rookie season it looked like a bad call to trade up for him, and he improved his sophomore season but kinda felt like how Justin Fields is now-really athletic and did some things pretty well but wasn’t going to be an all-world quarterback. His breakout third season surprising to everyone, but looking back McDermott, Beane, and Daboll showed having a young QB’s back, putting in the right pieces (shoring up the o-line with Morse and Dawkins, getting a great receiving core of Diggs/Beasley/Brown), and good play calling can make all the difference.

That year that the stats where low on Goff they lost 3 games that Greg the leg missed easy field goals and both where out. Stafford was and is comparable to Goff so they won the Superbowl Goff would have won the Superbowl but there where questionable calls if you tackle a running back that is a flag yeah when it's the patriots and they are gonna get pinned backwards. So Mcvay wanted to prove it was him that got them to SB not Goff.

Questionable calls? Dawg the Pats defense got to Goff when it mattered in late passing downs in the SB and the tape shows! Same reason why Goff couldn't cut it when the Niners started to get to him in late downs. Also McVay changed his offense up when he got Stafford. He wasn't calling a buncha play action under center. Hell he wanted Stafford to throw deep in late downs against pressure with guys he schemed open. Because Stafford wasn't gonna check it down like Goff did.

It's easy to fix goff cause he is a good qb. His strength is just that he is accurate af. If your o line collapses that's gonna look like a bad QB always!. But if you take football the same way you take chess and you build your squad....you'd actually want goff as your QB even above allen. Sorry to say it. But with a perfect o line I'd want goff, mahomes (if I can make him play nonflashy) or herbert. Go kill me idgaf

Stafford also threw three very near interceptions, two in the red zone. Guess who won more points in the RZ? Goff also has the most yards against the blitz this year. You have to hope you get pressure or else you're smoked. You don't make it to 12 wins and the divisional round without knowing how to handle attempted pressure. See the Eagles.
