Harry's dichotomy is present for Snape specifically in that he looks just like James (bad, in Snape's eyes) but with Lilly's eyes (good, in Snape's eyes)
@keithjones313823 сағат бұрын
Another yin and yang is how they look like their fathers and how they take that information. Both Harry and Voldemort, Tom Riddle Jr., looked like their father except for their eyes. Harry had his mom's eyes, and Harry notes that something flashes red at times. Also, Harry is proud that he has his father's likeness, while Tom mutilated his face to make sure he didn't resemble his father a few years after he killed him.

I got the real formula for creating Harry: 1. Make freaky prediction about how the recipe will be used 2. Combine 1 James Potter with 1 Lily Evans 3. Add nationwide race war 4. Wait nine months 5. Nurture mixture for one year 6. Remove James/Lily combination from mixture and destroy it 7. Leave remnants of mixture with much worse bakers 8. Ignore mixture for ten years and slowly drive it insane for a further seven 9. Enjoy your PTSD-ridden mixture

Like if she published Harry and Ginny were cheating on each other nobody would care, and and it would be a gag in the family, they’d make jokes like (“oh we’re getting a divorce” said Harry Ginny lazily hands Harry a coffee mug and says “is it because I’m snogging Neville?” Giggling “No it’s because IM snogging Neville” Harry laughs. “Goddangit Harry can’t you let me have my affair in peace?” Ginny laughs.) I have a theory that the Arianna becomes Fawkes (Per SCB Theory, Dumbledores come back as phoenixes). The pure, sweet, and good Arianna is a rebirth of Fawkes that gives a feather for Harry and the Obscurus side of her is a rebirth of Fawkes that gives the Voldy feather. To build upon your theory that Dumbledores come back as Phoenixes. What if Ariana came back as Fawkes? It would explain the connection between Dumbledore and Fawkes, they are literally family. Phoenixes go through cycles of life and are constantly being reborn. While during most of the rebirths, Fawkes comes back as the “sweet and scared and harmless” (DH, ch 28) side of Ariana’s personality, occasionally Fawkes is reborn as the Obscurus Ariana. Aberforth describes this as, “times she was strange and dangerous.” (DH, ch 28). We also learn from Aberforth that Ariana was prone to fits of rage where magic would explode out of her. If we view spells as the controlled expulsion of magical energy. “His wand began to vibrate more powerfully than ever... and now the beam between him and Voldemort changed, too...it was as though large beads of light were sliding up and down the thread connecting their wands -Harry felt his wand give a shudder under his hand, as the light beads began to slide slowly and steadily his way... the direction of the beam’s movement was now towards him, from Voldemort, and he felt his wand shudder angrily.” (GoF, ch 34) Perhaps, the connection of the twin cores is the two sides of Ariana’s personality entering a fit of rage after being hyper-charged by uncontrollable magic. The two sides of Fawkes could explain how both Tom Riddle and Harry Potter, two drastically different boys, attracted feathers from the same phoenix. Thoughts?

Ooh! I like that! When I saw the first line, I thought, What about the Obscurus? but the fact that you cover both and how each comes into play is really good!! Personally, I like the idea that each "side" of her creates a separate phoenix (so we end up with two different birds), but both side of her showing themselves at different times in Fawkes' life is really good too. Would love the brothers to see this and run with it!

"Dumbledores come back as phoenixes" just feels off to me, since Dumbledore himself did not come back when he died. I wonder if we can refine to only Ariana, what if she was a Maledictus and she was alone was affected? Maybe there was some kind of mutation and she turned into a magical creature instead of a mundane one. And it would still work with your theory, which I think it very interesting.

I think there's a simpler concept. The characters all have strengths and weaknesses. Harry is "the chosen one", but he's not particularly knowledgeable or powerful. He is exceedingly brave and loyal. They simply feel real because of their flaws and the need to depend on each other because none of them can do it on their own. Nearly everyone offers something. This is highlighted in the destruction of the horcruxes. Different people destroy each one. Harry can be the main hero, but he doesn't have to do everything.

I think one of the big examples is Ron. He is a good friend most of the time, not his jealousy of Harry and his various bigotries do cause problems.

The yin-yang itself (in it's entirety) is a complete cycle and person. Harry completes the cycle by accepting death (and is able to choose to return to life via the love-crux) whereas Voldemort tries to escape the cycle and death (and is ultimately barred from death via the horcruxes, a fate that is arguably *worse* then death.)

I will never understand why anyone thinks good and evil should exist equally. There is no benefit to the existence of evil. Evil should never be allowed when one is capable of eliminating it. I admit I haven't kept up with all things Star Wars, since I couldn't be bothered to watch the movies at all after Episode VII, but, originally, the force was balanced by the *destruction* of the dark side. The light side of the force is what represented the balance, while the dark side was chaos. Bringing balance to the force really did mean defeating the evil. The yin and yang symbol is supposed to be about complementary/opposite things that aren't inherently good or bad, like contraction and expansion, passive and active, fire and ice, day and night, etc.
@timchiu50122 сағат бұрын
Exactly, many foreigners misunderstand Yin and Yang as good and evil like Zoroastrianism. It’s always a combination of both sides.

Then what about the Grey Jedi's who are, as they perceive it "perfectly balanced" in what they see as a true usage of The Force. Using both the light side and the dark side of The Force without letting the dark side corrupt them.
@owencoles279820 сағат бұрын
@@Motshamthis is what I was thinking. Like there’s many people, real and fictional, that are able to balance their good and bad traits to make an overall good person who acknowledges their shortcomings but doesn’t allow that to halt their progress.
@SgtSupaman16 сағат бұрын
@@Motsham , to my knowledge, a Gray Jedi is someone that is generally good (usually using the light side of the force), they just aren't part of the Jedi Order. But, even if they are someone that uses dark and light, that doesn't mean they are balanced. Could just mean they are unreliable. They are like an anti-hero or anti-villain (depending on their ultimate leaning). Being conflicted doesn't make them balanced (even if they consider themselves as such).

The Force is actually not a good example of yin-yang. The Force is fundamentally good. Where a lot of people in and out of universe go wrong is the assumption the Dark Side is a natural part of the Force. That is simply not true. What is often called 'the Light Side' is simply the Force existing as normal. The Dark Side is a corruption of the Force, not a natural part. The sequel trilogy seems to have bought into this, and, terrible and nonsensical as it may be, it is canon. HOWEVER. Despite it making for a great reason for Luke to have cut himself off and waited to die, Luke never mentions the Force striving for 'balance' (equal light and dark) as a reason behind his decision. In fact, the only one to propagate this view is Snoke, a villain and puppet for Palpatine. It does feel like it could be nonsense spouted by Dark Side users to claim they do belong in the galaxy.

I don't agree that this is the ultimate reason why especially Harry Potter characters are "well designed". Isn't it always true for every well written character in any book or film to be two sided? Or to have an opposite or antagonist which he/she has always something in common as Yin/Yang. I don't want to criticize the content but it's very obvious and necessary to use such character designs.

6:52 green and red are *not* opposites on a proper color wheel, only on that antiquated RYB abomination! They *are* opposite in the LAB color space which better represents biological human color perception (wherein our optic nerves have three channels, one for total amount of lightness rather than darkness, one for the amount blue rather than anything else, and one for the amount of red rather than green). But the RYB color wheel does not accurately reflect that, placing violent opposite yellow rather than blue, and orange opposite blue instead of yellow, because it's totally unscientific nonsense from the dark ages. The proper RGB color wheel *does* translate directly to and from LAB, because it similarly represents the biology of human eyes and their color-sensitive cone cells, which generate the signals that get processed by the optic nerve as represented by the LAB color space.

I have felt that way about other videos before, that it was just to meet a deadline, but I genuinely don't feel that way about this one, for two reasons: It can be helpful for those who want to write, and fun for those who want to deep-dive into HP. For writers, even if you understand that characters **should** be more than one-note, that doesn't mean you understand *how* to execute that. This video is an interesting perspective to understand how to layer characters, and nearly every source of writing advice will tell people to go to stories they know & love and analyze them to get a better understanding of what to do in their own stories. Second, even if you have no interest in writing, the topic might interest you. But even if it doesn’t, people just like to geek out about their fandom, and this is another way to do that, looking at characters we know and actions we're familiar with, but through a different lens.
