Danny Maude, I've taught golf ever since 1987. I learned from the best. I stopped your video at 4:30 to tell you, I teach the exact same thing. THE SWING IS AN ATHLETIC MOVE WHICH IS DONE WITH OUR BODY, NOT THE HANDS. I call it "The dog wags the tail," not the other way around. I love the way your weight shifts form left-to-right-to left again. The golf swing is a waltz, 1-2-3, 1-2-3. A waltz encourages rhythm and tempo = smooth swing. 6:00 => 7:00 perfect warmup drill. I also do that hold a broom extended horizontally. Great drill for tempo and a great excersize for loosening up before going out to the course. RHYTHM, TEMPO, BALANCE.

Went to Sunningdale yesterday to watch the Seniors Open and the first thing that strikes you is the smoothest of the swings from good golfers that look free from tension. What you are showing here Danny is a tension-free swing, unlike me and my playing partner that appear to expend so much energy for such little gain. This instruction today relates very well to yesterday.

The harder you swing the more issues you have. We simply cannot the sweet spot like a pro. An easy solid swing has better chance of hitting the club in the sweet spot. Thy he ball only weighs an ounce and a half. It'll fly off your club if you hit it flush

Hi Danny, organising the swing from the bottom absolutely works. I’m a moving and handling trainer and I teach that all good movements pivot at the ankles, knees and hips, not waist and shoulders. Why use small muscles to do a big job? Applying this to my golf has lifted my game, put 10 yards on my driver, and got me hitting irons better, more often. Thanks for great tips.

It’s crazy that this video was posted and that I found it today! Before watching this, I experienced this feeling this morning at the range. I found, not surprisingly, that using the big muscles created more power, but I WAS surprised by how consistent the shots were as well. Mentally, I have always tried to place the club into position at various points in the swing, thinking that careful and specific effort on that front would result in increased accuracy and consistency, and that letting these big muscles like legs and core take over would overpower the club into poor positions and inconsistently so. Nope! QUITE the opposite! This video puts a clear explanation to, expounds upon, and confirms what I felt today. I never hit the ball better than this morning, and can’t wait to incorporate this more fully into what I’m doing. Thank you, Sir!

Excellent video Danny; this is the nuts and bolts of how the golf swing works. The takeaway sets the stage for the rest of the swing, and what I do is try to “heave” the club into the backswing. If you can get that feeling of heaving the club back with your legs instead of pushing or pulling it with your hands, arms and shoulders, you can keep the tension out of your upper body and set yourself up for an easy, effortless golf swing. You’ve done a lot of great videos, but this is probably the best I’ve seen from you. Well done; this is truly one of the “secrets” to making a great golf swing. 👍

Another great tip from you Danny which I tried at the range. Rather than start my backswing with my arms, which I previously did, using your lower legs and arms in a one piece take away helped me to transfer my weight to the back foot on the backswing, and then to the front foot before swinging forward. This helped me to keep my front foot planted rather than stepping out moving it. Yours tips have helped me to hit much straighter and longer shots resulting in a lower handicap. Thanks again and have a good day!

Hi Danny. I tried this at the range today. I focused on getting my body in ‘rhythm ‘ and then followed with my swing not focusing on hitting the ball but hitting through it. I’ve struggled with hitting behind the ball and not following through with my swing. What I felt today was a purer, consistent strike with my irons and not caught up with all these swing thoughts. It really felt effortless. My timing seems still a bit off with the longer clubs but I’ll keep working on it. I’ll be taking this to the course tonight! Thanks!

Hi Danny I think that you are right to devote lessons on the importance of a consistent strike on the ball. I have struggled for a long time with an inconsistent one and there is no way you can move on to regulating distance, aim and trajectory if you are duffing, topping, shanking and so forth. The two recent lessons; this one and a previous one where you present an effective way of taking up the grip with the left hand, while keeping the forearm joint facing forward, has worked for me in practice. For the first time I find that I am making good contact and have begun to work on distance and so forth. Great stuff - well done!

Great video and a good one to watch every few weeks as a reminder. As a beginner it's easy to keep falling into trying to get the club into certain positions, make sure this arm is straight here, do this, do that and you end up in a very unnatural state and trying to hit at the ball. This approach is already starting to help me and reminds you how to keep it really simple and relaxed. Also it's a really easy thing to just go and practice in the garden a few times a day whilst the kettle is boiling...

Of all the golf videos on KZbin this and your weight shift video are the very best. I agree there is too much emphasis concentrating on the moving the club. I'm an 18 handicap. Getting around a golf course in 79-83 as I did infrequently now and again was intense hard work. Then just last week after nothing would work, after a terrible last 5/6 holes, I started at the first tee again. I let the body from the ground up lead the swing. I felt like I was also swaying, but actually my head was staying centered whilst my body turned. I seemed as though I was behind the ball, with my weight onto the right. The thing was it now felt as though I could more easily time the downswing and transfer the weight easily to the left and through as my feet and legs were involved . Not only that but I felt like I had a storage of speed and power ready to come into the ball. It felt effortless. On this first hole, I hit the ball well yes but it went into the rough on the right hand side of the fairway. However had it been just a little straighter it would have gone a long way. The difference was the swing felt easy. I couldn't go for the green. The ball was above my feet on a downslope in the rough. So I used the same feeling playing the ball back in my stance. Good effortless contact put me just short of a very raised green (always hard to get a 4 unless you drive well off onto the fairway across a deep draw on this hole) .Anyway it turned out to be an easy 5. Always acceptable on this opening hole at our club. The next hole, easy effortless swing it went a long way. Effortless 8 iron onto the green and a 4. This continued for the next 5 holes. On two par 4's 250 yard drives with a 3 wood. Two more 4's. An easy tap in 5 on another hole. Then a birdie on a par 3. So for 7 holes, when I have to say being a 63 year old who had been carrying his clubs around for 25 holes I was completely knackered. But this was my scorecard after the additional 7 holes. 5,4,4,5,4,4,2. The 5's were tap ins. Drives and second shots were effortless yet there was extra distance. I felt great. BUT ! would it be just a fleeting experience. Surely after 7 holes scoring like that it couldn't be. So a few days after, I went into the garden with plastic balls and initiated the same feeling. I pretended to play the first 11 holes of my home course. A clean straight strike with every ball except perhaps one. Now I know this is not going to mean I will move to being a scratch player. But the idea that I might regularly go around in the 70's is now very much a realistic expectation. Your two videos I have mentioned are key to this kind of transformation.

Just to say thanks Danny. This teaching continues.Weekend just gone my best round of 79.Not only that I felt I had lots left in the tank.Frequently putting for birdies or just missing out on pats.Leaving tap in 5,s on the hardest holes.By the way your chipping video is superb having the back of club raised and using a more upright pendulum motion.Pure contact every time giving much more confidence with up and downs. All of your instruction hits the mark.By the way I need to be honest I still play with a very strong grip and I do swing on a more single plane.I think the point is here that good instruction and technique applies whatever the mechanics. For example despite my very strong grip I watched your video about the club remaining at a 45 degree angle as you swing away.Prior to your teaching I was forcing the club into an exaggerated shut position parallel to the ground. It’s all working very well.Ongoing feedback is important I believe, as the aim is for consistent improvement.Hopefully this will also inspire others to follow your channel.

My swing was so out of order a month ago and started doing a similar drill a few weeks ago by myself. Really noticing the club head and using the body to start the movements really has made it a lot easier to control swing paths and club face. One thing I've also drilled is controlling distance by controlling the the speed of the swing but keeping the tempo the same. It really helps you get in sync with your swing. Thanks Danny for the lesson! It makes me feel that I'm on the right track.

Hi Danny, thx for putting this reminder out again. Agree on the importance of swinging bottom up from a very stable foundation. Yet currently learn to avoid ups and downs in the movement of the swing action...they seem to be counterproductive while working on increased consistency. I really need to just concentrate on my swing, not necessarily striking the ball (for now). This video is extremely helpful. Thank you! Subscribed!🏌🏻♀️⛳️

Your videos really help to organize my practice. You are able to explain things so clearly in a way that others make so complicated. My ball striking has definitely improved. If only I would always remember to aim as well, my scores just might come down!

That bit about the follow through and allowing the space… I always struggle with pushing to the right (not slicing so it’s not a swing plane or throwing or cutting across issue)… but that must be it, that I compress the ball well but I’m not actually turning through the shot. Awesome stuff.

Simple, concise vid, I tried these out on the range after watching, felt some much more consistent with my ball strikes (across all clubs) had a round last night and played with alot more confidence! Thanks alot :)

In archery I was taught to use the large muscles first (i.e. not the arms), and in karate I learned that a punch or block starts with the hips. This translates well to golf. My approach is as if it is a martial art . . . and I am working on control and consistency rather than power. Like fly fishing - the club/(rod) should do all the work and the angler is focusing on adjusting timing and control. What I haven't worked out is that, on the top of the backswing, do you pause or do you snap forward to "load" the club shaft? This video has helped show it's the rhythm: backwing fast/release fast. Backwing slow/release slow (I think).
@DanielMaude Жыл бұрын
The snap forward is happening before the club actually reached the top. The lower body starts to move forward to wards the target while the upper body completes the turn. This creates tremendous torque and snap

It is so "natural thinking" to focus on our arms and upper body merely being supported by the strongest muscle groups in our bodies. :) Great video sir. I spent an hour today at the range only striking balls lightly at first by ensuring my arms were going along for the ride. Tremendous results on the single full swing at the end that I allowed myself. So well explained.

so this was something that I have been doing all along without thinking about it, thus striking the ball really good and consistently, unfortentlely there were days were I could not strike the ball properly and I had no clue what I was doing wrong or differently, now I'm pretty sure that my body and mind wasn't working correctly resulting that I was too much focused on my upper body and arms. I would always describe my bad phase with loosing my rhythm, it all makes sense now, glad I've found this video.

great video and the concept of natural movement is spot on. Just had rotator cuff surgery and can't wait to put these into play once I am able to swing the club. Will like starting new with better foundation. Thanks

I've been working on the thought of getting the club to the top and in a supported position and then letting the Angles go with rotating the forearm to the ball at impact. I'm getting good results. It is challenging to let it all go and keep the body forward trusting the club path will be square. Thanks for the instruction.

Hi Danny I follow a lot of your videos which have helped me a lot but this one is a real gamechanger! This has transformed my game, made it more enjoyable and with less effort. I now understand how I can whip the club through impact which i was having difficulty with before. I also don't have to think about where my arms are in the takeaway, it's just natural. If only I could read greens I would be great!! Thanks for all of your help.

Hi Danny, I just love your so welcomed Blogs! I have been playing golf for over 50 years and I feel am playing better than when I was younger! I have started to squat in which helps me with me being older, but getting to hit the ball further is a bonus! could you do a video about squatting which might help others in achieving better striking shots even when one being older?

Best coach on youtube. All of it boils down to the same tips, just described in different ways and contexts. Too many tips on youtube for 100 different drills for 100 different problems. Danny teaches you to have a good fundemental swing sensation, and then once you have that consistent and smooth movement, then you can tweak it with different drills depending on any issues you are personally enountering.
