I absolutely love that you did the mountain with a filbert! Looks very loose and impressionistic. Excellent job!

There it is! 😮 I am guilty of using too much paint, especially on my trees. Now I know why my highlights don’t stick. Lots of good instructions and advice ❤

I think I was guilty of this for so long. Just keep the amounts used to a minimum and you should find things get easier. Happy painting - Paul 😃

Ok this one is def in my top five Ranson paintings. I’ve watched it more than a half dozen times already. The lake water and waterfall upper section is superb, and the fir tree is just gorgeous. 🙏🏻♥️

Hi Kennith - yes isn't it a stunner. I first painted this many years ago and well remember running out of room - more than once! Give it a go and have those map pins handy - Best wishes - Paul 😃

Hi Paul! Thank you very much for taking this grand painting step by step with us, you put 100% into the preparation, explaining how to use horizontal line(s) and the right colors, to make an incredible effect of distance. It’s one painting that teaches us how to recreate a scene that looks into the distance that appears to be miles and miles from the viewer’s eyes! I love the way you painted the background so softly and light handedly. So important to use the right amount of pressure from hand to brush to canvas! A good practice to work on for myself as I need to be more cognizant of this practice. The filbert seems to be so comfortable in your hands, and it sort of dances as you created such a beautiful mountain! Practice makes us be able to do this- as a dancer, after years of practice it becomes fluid, flowing through from my innermost self out. The way you paint reminds me of that feeling. So free and fun. Thank you Paul! Love seeing your furbabies as they pop in! 👏👏🤗❤️🫶have a wonderful week!!

Hi Stephanie - I'm pleased you picked up on my delicate touch and a throw back to my former career in dance and ballet. Indeed a light touch and a willingness to let the brush float is essential. As is recognising the importance or lack of with each layer. I often call my backgrounds the chorus line. Supporting the star of the the show. How I miss my days at the Bolshoi. New painting underway so lets see how that turns out.😍😉

Hi, Paul! Loved your tutorial! Thank you! I'm fascinated with waterfalls. I still haven't painted one, but I've watched all of Bob's waterfall tutorials and all of yours, and I'm happily looking forward to my very first attempt. I usually paint a whole canvas (more like three canvasses... Or four.. or more ...) full of whatever I'm learning to paint so that when I add it to a painting, I'm pretty certain how it will turn out. It's really paid off in my palette knife mountains with snow and many variations of blue skies and clouds. And because I use water mixable oils, when I'm done practicing for the day, I wash my canvas and it's as good as new for next time! I think painting many canvasses of waterfalls is going to be delightful. 💕 I'm guessing it will be my favorite new technique! I think I will even make the little "shooop" sound, like Bob, when the water spills over the edge. 😄 I've been meaning to thank you for teaching me to stand back often to see what my painting looks like from a bit of distance. It's been the most amazing tip! It's made a huge difference in my painting. Now, I often hear your voice saying, "Now let's just stand back and take a little look from across the room ..." 😄 And it always makes me smile. I liked all the horizon lines and layers in this painting. I'm glad you darkened the few little trees on the far side of the lake a bit. I'm always glad when you show us how to fix pickles and turn them into happy accidents. Thanks for another great tutorial! Have a great week! And best wishes, as always, from Erica in Utah.

Hello Erica - phew busy week so bit slow with the reply - I'm thrilled that your progress is bringing you so much joy. And yes, like learing to read and write we need to fill our minds with repetition until it becomes second nature. Like using a knife and fork .... but I still spill gravy down my shirt 🤣 Maybe a culinary happy accident. Standing back reveals so much about how our paintings are going. I often hear Bob in my head so my mentor is close at hand too. Now back to the easel - love from the UK - Paul 🥰😃
