Excuse my ignorance - I don't know the story behind how Tim's channel emerged with the crew/team behind it but I fancy that he and someone from a film background randomly crossed paths and the producer was, as we clearly all are, enamoured by his ability to make you feel at ease with embracing a lost childhood intrigue and curiosity in the mechanics of the world. The first time most of us are exposed to that is in toys. We learn so much through play. Tim effortlessly makes that intrigue an aspect of both child and adult minds alike, a thing to embrace without any ridiculous sense of embarrassment. The stories he has to tell must be captivating. Stories which even the most 'grown-ups' would learn a thing or two by casting their mind back to when they had their inquisitive, absorbent 7 year old mind. Tim - I honestly thank you for allowing me most evenings to destress from the seemingly trivial stresses of an adult working life and appreciate again what it means to discover, to play, to break, to fix , to create, to learn and GROW. And not necessarily grow UP. You're one of the greats. Mad respect.

Pump pot thermoses are common (and used to be even more common before keurig and other coffee machines) for coffee, tea, and hot water servings in associations or any events where hot drinks and something edible was expected to be served in a non-catered way for a group :) The filter doesn't have to be built into the container, as there are many different ways to filter tea leaves with removable/insertable loose leaf filters. Pump thermoses are super great even if you don't have arthritis and the like. You can just make a whole batch of tea or coffee and enjoy all day (fruity red bush tea with chili is a personal favorite for winters). As in yes, this must have been fantastic, and this sort of household convenience tool still is going strong.

Yeah I'd imagine this would take more time and effort then just pouring the pot yourself, but a cool invention nonetheless. I assumed it would be a weighted pressure on the pump part that would slowly push the tea out anytime you pressed a lever or unscrewed the top.

A pump using Bernoulli's principle. You can’t compress liquids so it pushes the tea through the strainer and out the pot. That’s pretty neat
@seikibrian86412 жыл бұрын
That's not Bernoulli's principle. Bernoulli's principle states that an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in static pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy. Bernoulli's principle explains how an airplane wing produces lift, for example. The teapot works simply because lowering the lid decreases the volume of the pot, increasing the air pressure, which equalizes by shifting the contents to the area of lower pressure: the outside of the pot. The increase in pressure with decreasing volume would be explained by Boyle's law, not Bernoulli's.

I agree with FunkYeah that some people are a little too in love with using electricity for everything, but it also might be that the problems some inventions try to solve are obsolete or so specific to groups people rarely think about (like disabled or elderly people). That's not an excuse for inventors to stop being inventive, of course. A lot of infomercials have products with a similar charm, and a lot of people online write them off as 'lazy' because they don't consider the use they have for other groups.
