Agreed. I grew up pretty sideways and could have ended up like this kid, yet I never harmed a fly. At his age, I was angry and hateful, didn't take shit from anyone either, grew up a tad tough & rough around the edges which still shows to this day, but to deliberately hurt someone? Absolutely could not. I don't believe I was 'lucky'. I believe I made choices to not hurt, simple as that, at lemme tell ya, I wanted to at times. Who wouldn't, when you're being hurt so much? But to just walk up and kill a stranger... I dunno, I could feel some sympathy for the kid if he'd offed his abusers or something, maybe, but holy hell, not this.

NO, that is not true. Anyone who has had a traumatic childhood is more likely to self harm, than anything else and more often than not, will have deep empathy for others. The behaviour of serial killers is excused by the " bad childhood" narritive too. What shrinks would call psychopathy, is actually demonic possession. That doesn't have to look like the exorcist. Satan is behind every bit of evil. We have free will and people chose to take a life for no other reason than it gives them pleasure.

Why don't the authorities step in when they have an unruly child like this who is in and out of trouble from a very young age? There’s no excuse to bring harm to anyone because you had a rough upbringing. It’s your responsibility to improve your situation and not make it worse. Otherwise, innocent people like Nathan will pay the price. I’m disgusted by those who use the victim mentality to bring harm to themselves and others. There’s absolutely no excuse for such atrocious behavior. I had a rough childhood but I knew I wanted things to be different when I became independent from the toxic environment. Generational self sabotage and chaotic behavior must be broken. I did it and know many others who have done the same. This thug knew exactly what he was doing and didn’t care one bit!! He should’ve been given the death penalty and put to death sooner than later in order to make an example out of him.

That's not how it works. If you could watch the way these children grow up surrounded by violence with no good role models, you might be able to see how they end up this way. Cecilia will be growing up surrounded by a big loving family who will dote on her. No doubt Simone didn't have that. It's not an excuse, but an explanation as to how someone can end up capable of committing such horrific crimes like this. They do not value life the same way you or I do. It's tragic all around. Of course the biggest tragedy is the loss of Nathan's life. But until we as a society step in to make changes within these cultures, this will continue.

Nine separate violations of his house arrest! That’s absurd. In Australia if you violate your bail or your probation you get instantly arrested and thrown up against a judge to explain yourself. This is not a “botched robbery.” This is a thrill-kill homicide with robbery as a pretext, like many such shootings, especially those involving juveniles who have faced scant penal consequences for developing their criminal careers. Juvenile-enacted violent crime is up all over the U.S. yet again, including in my area. A group of teens in the neighboring county recently tried to stage a hit job on another minor on a freakin’ school bus ffs but lucky for that target and the delinquents, the gun jammed. With enough of these types of cases, the pendulum tends to swing hard towards tough-on-crime laws/policies, even regarding defendants who are minors. There’s also a growing movement for adults who allow minors access to firearms, including assault-type weapons, to be held criminally culpable, which I am all for.

Watching him smile walking down the prison hall, in front of a camera, shows how out of touch with reality the man is. Even if I recognize that anyone can be filmed at an unfortunate moment. He also looks like the wiley type you would stay clear off in school. The type who would be willing to get into all kinds of stuff when he was with his friends. He would be nobody on his own, but as soon as his friends are there, he would get away with anything. He must have been failed by a lot of people.

My heart aches for such a fine man to be robbed of his life. The daily agony and loss his wife and little girl suffer each day is to much to bear when will we as a nation step up and hold people accountable for their horrific actions? I feel for the terrible childhoods experienced by so many but can not, will not ever excuse them for their evil deeds.

I feel badly for these children being raised in such a violent culture. It's not an excuse, but an explanation of how someone can get to that point, especially at such a young age. It's a very sad reality of life, but it's simply not fair to allow violent criminals to roam the streets, risking the lives of innocent people. He has no business ever getting out of prison. Society would not be safe.

I think those that keep letting him off should have to 'help' these 'kids' in their homes with their families- from the judges to the D.A.'s (with lenient sentences, if ANY) to the defending attys. I'm also all for parole board members who let them out yrs early to house them as well- since they feel so secure letting them in among us! It's only FAIR!
@VioletJoy
@VioletJoy Жыл бұрын
@roserocks1979 I've never understood that response. It's just odd to think that a judge doesn't think these things through. It really doesn't take more effort to sentence him to something other than rehab, counseling, and probation. It's more likely that he had a stern talking to by the judge who wanted to give him a chance to change. Unfortunately, he was given way too many chances. Some of the arrests were for stuff like weed. Having possession of a gun is a totally different story. He should have gotten time for that.

What it is beyond comprehension is the fact that the probation officer, criminally neglecting his duties, got away with just quitting his job. On top of it all, this troubled kid will come out of prison by the time he is 45 with a master degree on how to be a better criminal, if he doesn't get killed in there due to his violent behaviour. All and all , Nathan is gone for ever and another young person wasted his life. I always wonder why so many people, from all over the world, put so much effort to live in such a society. Greetings from Toronto.

Wow. What a sad sad story. To know that he and his wife were a happy, loving couple excited to meet their daughter and embark on a new journey as a family and have his life taken for absolutely nothing just doesn’t make sense. He was praying his rosary when it happened?!? I just can’t imagine… and for that kid to have been arrested for 29 serious crimes and to be out after only serving 50 days total for all of them is ridiculous. Seems they treated everything lightly which of course gave that 16 yr old kid the feeling he was untouchable. When he finally murders two people for no reason then they take it seriously. Really?!? Too little too late! The kid was running wild and the justice system kept slapping him on the wrist for what? He’s a juvenile? They need to put a limit on the number of crimes a kid can commit somehow to be considered to be treated as an adult for crimes so the severity of punishment is actually punishment. Now in 2023 the crime rate is higher than ever and the justice system is even more lax on punishment. If you watch the news you can plainly see it. Murders, robberies, car jackings, shootings, shop lifting… then to find out the perpetrators are repeat offenders who should have been incarcerated is infuriating! I hope Jennifer and her daughter are living the best life and that nothing so true ever happens again. Rest in Peace Nathan ❤

This is another reason juveniles shouldn’t be just let out. They need to be charged as adults, cause he wouldn’t have killed this amazing innocent man. I don’t normally agree with families suing after a death in this case the family should have sued probation and the city. His “troubled childhood” has nothing to do with him killing an innocent law abiding man. He should have got life without parole. This is why criminals continue to do what they do.
