One of the best sci-fi of all time. Even the special effects are first rate and so ahead of their time. I’ve watched this movie many times.

@ Yes. The story is an H G Wells story, the movie was made just before the outbreak of WWII, which it predicts, deals in three time frames and the special effects, well, I can’t think of any contemporary to it that even comes close. Deals with various aspects of the human psyche. The cannon that launches the space craft In the final scene well there wasn’t much in the way of rocketry at the time That’s my take.
@alanfoster658914 сағат бұрын
@@paulschulte1064 The cannon propulsion system technically could work. The problem are the G-forces it would subject humans to.

Fascinating fantasy of what one man's vision of what will be mankind's future thought up prior to the actual second world war. These black and white movies are far more interesting than todays. Thanks for the posting.

Written 3 years earlier in 1933. This film 1936....A quick film adaptation of an original work by HG.....almost 4 years (7 years) from the beginning of WW2. HG had his prophetic moments.

Ce qui est extraordinaire, c'est que mon grand-père avait vu ce film dans sa jeunesse, en 1936 ! Il avait été très impressionné, et je le découvre maintenant ! Magnifique film. 😊❤

Sci-fi with monsters and aliens can't touch this movie. There's nothing scarier than humans. There's no need for bug eyed scaled trees that eat people when you have Ralph Richardson. One of my top 10 for sure, the futuristic manufacturing and Art Deco world are stunning.

Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful 1936 sci-fi classic! Thank you CCC and thank you all for entering the chat, it means the world to me, so much to me! Its so epic and so majestic with its scope that you cant shake your eyes off it! The actors including Raymond Massey, Ralph Richardson, Terry-Thomas, Cedric Hardwicke, Edward Chapman and others are wonderful, striking and riveting, the musical score by Arthur Bliss is efficiently in tune with the chaos of the forthcoming scenes and most of all, the sets by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy are way more galactic than ever!

If you liked this movie then you will enjoy "Transatlantic Tunnel ". It is the story of building a gigantic engineering feat of linking America and Britain by an undersea tunnel and how it disrupted the lives and loves of its visionaries for generations and the people who sacrificed their lives to make it happen. It came two years before "Things to Come" was released. It is on KZbin.

A proposed tunnel linking London to USA was in the news this week. Estimated price tag of $200 Billion, but a person could make the trip in a hour. (I think that's what the article said). Per the comments, it's not very welcomed as the ecological disaster it could leave in its wake.

The novel was called "The Shape Of Things to Come" but this 1936 film was called "Things To Come". The shorter title probably worked better as a theatre marquee sign.

Things To Come - quick summary A comic species (humanity) muddles it's way through half-baked myths with the purpose to keep the goal posts at infinity, thus providing enough impetus to kick-start a consumer techno-binge that leaves a chorus of screaming beggars asking the age old bait-n-switch clincher "Which shall it be?!"
