I'm so glad Steve Vai got to play in this project, he owns the songs so well and his feeling is overwhelming. Zappa. P.I.L and now King Crimson!

I saw two of these guys play this 42 years ago. It is just as good now as it was then. Thank you for posting.

It's weird, isn't it? I suspect that Vai doesn't really have the creative core to excel with his own compositions. Unlike, say, Satriani, who's so obviously there first and foremost to play from his own inspirations, according to his own structure...Vai almost seems liberated, rather than constrained, when he's playing in others' bands...

I guarantee these are the hardest songs Steve has played since Zappa. I'm thrilled to see it's all going well.

It's obvious, he working hard. So talented. Just like Zappa did, this King Crimson music is stretching him. Making him work very hard. So F*ing good!

Damn the KZbin algorithm decided this amazing performance needed to to be followed by itself...

As good as Beat is it mostly reminds me of how magical the Discipline era King Crimson was. I saw them on their first U.S. tour and I had goosbumps on my arms at many times during the performance. It was so magical, new, ground breaking and powerful for 1981. I have loved Vai's playing ever since I first saw him on the first Zappa tour he did, but his takes on Fripp's parts just reminds me of how uniquely amazing Fripp's playing actually is.

Ya, I promised myself I wouldn’t watch any more second rate footage until official stuff comes out. But it’s hard.

While this features Vai and he does a great job, I love Adrian’s solo beginning at 4:45

That opening solo of Vai, the first thought was is he going to ruin Beat the same way he ruined Whitesnake? I love his solo stuff to the extent that I’ve written a book of him but he just doesn’t fit into music other than his own, or Zappa’s. Belew on the other hand, oh my god, seemless. Vai’s second solo just began, yeah fck this.
